Chapter 30: Chapter 30 Resolved
Chapter 30 -30 Resolved
Fan Tianhua wasn’t exaggerating; Fan Tianyu had been punished with no dinner on several occasions for being too cheeky.
The key point is that he never seemed to learn his lesson, offending and being punished time and again.
Mei Mengzhen nodded in agreement before asking, “Sister Tianhua, why did you and Brother Tianyu come back at this time?”
This was something she found very strange. Tianhua and Tianyu had just graduated from university and were supposed to be doing internships at their workplaces. It wasn’t unusual for them to return home, but Mengzhen remembered that in her past life, they never came back, because she used to sleep in her cousin’s room. Except during the New Year when her cousin would squeeze in with her, she never came back at other times, so Mengzhen’s memory of this was quite clear.
Tianhua replied, “It’s all because we’re worried about the two of you. My mom talked to me on the phone for over two hours. She said you were disobedient and refused to stay at relatives’ houses, insisting on living alone with your brother. She talked my ears off, so I came back to check on you.”
Mengzhen smiled bitterly; her eldest aunt was indeed the kind of person who could do such a thing.
Before Mengzhen could say anything, Tianhua continued, “You’ve been living with Chenchen for about a week now, how’s it going? If it’s really too hard, you and your brother can move in with me. Anyway, the two of us are both working now, and I don’t live at home either, so it won’t be a burden for my family.”
Tianhua truly sympathized with her cousin’s situation, especially since Mengzhen’s words hinted that she didn’t want to trouble anyone. Just this point alone made Tianhua feel that her cousin was very sensible, and it would be alright for her to move in with them.
Upon hearing this topic, Mei Mengchen immediately became alert. These people, why are they talking about this again? He tightly clung to Mei Mengzhen’s arm, unwilling to let go, as if he was telling Mengzhen that wherever she went, he would follow.
Mengzhen, being as clever as she was, knew that the question wasn’t really from Tianhua, but from her eldest aunt through her cousin. However, this wasn’t a problem for Mengzhen. She gently patted her brother’s leg to reassure him and then said to Tianhua, “No need, we’re doing quite well.”
Mengchen nodded repeatedly, “Yes, very well,” and his eyes were still somewhat wary as he looked at Tianhua.
Tianhua was genuinely amused by Mengchen’s demeanor, “Why are you so guarded? I’m not going to run off with you.”
“But you just asked,” Mengchen retorted with annoyance; everyone seemed to want to separate him from his sister.
“Can’t even ask, huh?”
“No way.” As for the reason, Mengchen couldn’t explain it, but no way was no way.
“Fine, no way then, but we’re not going to stop caring about you. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to ask.”
“Actually, I do have something.” These past few days, while selling vegetables, she had been inquiring about places like childcare centers. There were some, but they were too far from both her home and school. By the time she dropped off Chenchen and went to school, she’d be too late, and she was truly at a loss for what to do.
Upon hearing this, Tianhua immediately suggested, “Why not let Tianyu look after him? He just quit his job, so he can rest a few more days until your school starts smoothly before finding another job. It’s only a few days anyway.”
No sooner had Tianhua finished speaking than Tianyu, who had come out of the kitchen, caught her in the act. He threw a dishcloth right onto Tianhua’s head, “I’m your brother; what’s with that tone? Show some manners.”
Tianhua was defiant, tossing the dishcloth back, “You’re only older by twelve minutes; why should I call you brother?”
“Twelve minutes is still ahead; even by a minute, I’m your brother. Besides, what have you volunteered me for in my absence?” The houses were old and not soundproof, and with the living room close to the kitchen, Tianyu had overheard the conversation. He was just trying to get a clear picture of the situation and turned to Mengzhen for clarification, “You first tell me what the situation is.”
Mengzhen explained, “I thought Chenchen and I both started school on September 1st, but I found out that our high school starts a week earlier. However, Chenchen’s kindergarten still starts on September 1st. So I don’t know where to leave the child for this one week.” Mengzhen continued, “My eldest aunt said she could pick him up later on, but she has work during the day this week. I’ve looked into childcare, but those places are too far from our home. It’d be too late to go to school after dropping off Chenchen, so I really don’t know what to do.”
Tianyu said, “I thought it was something serious. It’s settled then; I’ll take care of Chenchen for you, but only until school starts, no more than that.”
Mengzhen was overjoyed; problems always had solutions. But sensing something from Tianyu’s tone, she quickly asked, “Do you have any plans, Brother Tianyu? Will a one-week delay have any impact on you?”
“You’re thinking too much, kid. My previous internship was very average—low pay, long hours, and I didn’t learn much. I worked like I was on an assembly line, so I quit. Now I’m planning to start a business with some classmates. Everything is still in the preparation stage, so being a little early or late doesn’t matter.”
Mengzhen nodded, but upon hearing about starting a business, she remembered something else. In her past life when she lived with her eldest aunt, she often heard her aunt lament that Tianyu was swindled during his entrepreneurial venture. All the classmates who went into business together were cheated.
Just over a month, each of the entrepreneurial classmates had invested around one or two hundred thousand, and then the money was gone. Fortunately, they had not incurred external debts. After being reprimanded by their families, they all ended up taking regular jobs.
But her cousin wouldn’t give up. He tried entrepreneurship again and opened a small company, but it didn’t last long either. When he realized it wasn’t working, he quickly moved to another industry, and it was only then that his business truly took off. That was the best outcome after several setbacks.
She thought it over carefully and it did seem to be around this time. So, if she could keep Tianyu with her and delay him by this week, might he avoid that scam? “Then I’ll have to trouble you, Brother Tianyu. What time do you wake up in the morning? I need to be at school by 7 a.m.”
“Just bring Chenchen to my place before 7 a.m.; someone will be there at that time.”

However, Tianhua objected to this arrangement, kicking Tianyu’s leg, “Why can’t you go over there? She’s a senior high student; every minute in the morning is precious, and you want her to bring Chenchen to you. What are you thinking?”
“But I can’t wake up early in the morning,” Tianyu said as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
“Then you should go stay with them; even if someone’s asleep, that’s better than no one being there.”
That suggestion wasn’t bad, “Alright, I’ll go over tomorrow night since it’s Sunday.”
Tianhua was still looking for an argument, “Why at night? Couldn’t you go during the day? Go over early. Who will arrange a place for you to stay in the middle of the night? Are your little brother and sister supposed to clean up after you?”
