Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Black-armored Zombie

The third day of the apocalypse, early morning.

The weather was clear, with not a cloud in sight.

Only the roars of zombies and the screams of humans proved that the people in Norton City hadn't all perished yet.

Outside, the zombies were no longer gathered together. Instead, they were scattered across the streets in small groups.

As he had done for the past two days, Clove pushed his body to its limits as soon as he woke up, relentlessly squeezing out every last ounce of his potential!

The genetic lock was gradually being undone with each passing moment of his near-mad exertion.

It wasn't until noon that he finally stopped, panting for breath.

"What are we eating today? There's no food in the fridge," Linda said.

Clove flicked his right hand, and one by one, items appeared from thin air. "You figure out how to cook. Make sure to prepare plenty and make it tasty. Don't worry about running out."

Seeing Clove conjure food out of nowhere, Linda's eyes went wide.

Yesterday, she had found it strange too. The kitchen had been empty, yet Clove had gone in with empty hands and come out with so much food!

"Superpower?" Linda asked, her voice full of excitement.

The source of this c𝓸ntent is freewebnøvel.coɱ.

Clove nodded slightly.

Linda grinned. "No wonder... No wonder you're not scared. You've got this ability. As long as you're alive, you don't have to worry about what the outside world turns into."

Clove didn't explain that his power was space manipulation, not food creation. It was close enough. Instead, he spoke in a low voice. "Today's only the third day of the apocalypse. If you want to survive, you'd better start working on your strength from today."

"That way, even if you have to run, you'll be able to last longer."

"See those zombies outside?"

"From today onward, some of them are going to get stronger. Your security door won't stop them."

Linda looked at the aluminum alloy security door, her face filled with concern. "What should we do then?"

Feeling his strength returning, Clove chuckled and threw on his combat gear. He grabbed a handgun in one hand and a bone knife in the other. He casually opened the door and said, "We're going to make ourselves stronger than those zombies!"

Seeing Clove prepare to head out, Linda hurriedly said, "It's too dangerous out there. You should stay inside."

Clove's gaze sharpened. "Woman, you don't think that after we slept together, we've somehow developed feelings for each other, do you?"

"Just do what you're supposed to do!"

With that, Clove walked out and slammed the door shut behind him.

He first checked his own apartment and confirmed that there wasn't a single zombie inside. Satisfied, he began descending the stairs.

11th Floor.

A few zombies, hearing the sound of the door closing, were blocked by piles of corpses. Upon seeing Clove, they immediately lunged toward him.

Clove gripped the bone knife with one hand and moved between the zombies as if he were dancing, expertly plunging the blade either into their eye sockets or into their ears.

When the last of the zombies collapsed to the ground, motionless, Clove flicked the bone knife and shook his head. "What a pity. If only I had a medieval two-handed sword."

"The bone knife... is still a bit inconvenient."

He stood still for a few minutes, waiting for the zombies downstairs to be attracted by the sounds of the battle. Then, he turned to look at the two doors to his left and right.

Both doors were tightly shut, and there was no sound coming from inside.

After thinking for a moment, Clove kicked at the lock cylinder.

With a loud bang, the door swung open.

Clove stepped inside and saw a male zombie hunched over a corpse, its bloodstained mouth constantly feeding.

From the bone fragments left on the floor, it looked like this had been a family of four.

When Clove noticed that the zombie hadn't been attracted by the noise, he calculated the timing, then sat down patiently on the sofa inside the room.

The usual training had made him feel like his progress was slow, which was why he had decided to leave his home and seek growth through combat.

Only in battle could he truly unlock his body's potential.

The zombie in front of him had just finished eating three people, and now it was about to undergo its first evolution—or rather, another mutation.

The zombie swallowed the heart of the corpse in a single bite, then let out a ferocious roar. Its body began to swell, as if air were being pumped into it, growing more muscular and massive!

Its gray skin visibly sprouted patches of black scales.

Clove raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected the first zombie he encountered to be one of the so-called Black-armored Zombies, the kind that appeared after the apocalypse.

With its strong physique, armor-like scales capable of withstanding handgun bullets, and exceptionally high agility, this zombie would be nearly impossible to survive against wherever it went.

"What a pity," Clove said coldly. "You've just evolved, but your scales aren't tough enough, your speed isn't fast enough, and your strength isn't nearly enough."

The freshly evolved Black-armored Zombie slowly turned its head to look at Clove, and in its crimson eyes, a hint of confusion flashed.

Clove caught that glimmer of intelligence in its gaze. "So, you dog bastards... you've gained intelligence right from the start of your evolution."

The Black-armored Zombie naturally couldn't understand what Clove was saying. It simply felt that this human in front of it seemed fresh. Even though it hadn't struck yet, it could already tell that this human's flesh and blood must be delicious.

"Roar!" The Black-armored Zombie let out a roar, swinging its newly formed scaled claws and lunging at Clove.

Clove put his handgun away, leaving only the bone knife in his hand, and decisively met the attack head-on.

Bang!

The claws collided with the bone knife in a violent clash.

The sharp, screeching sound of metal scraping against metal suddenly rang out!

Clove's left hand tightened into a fist, and he slammed it into the Black-armored Zombie's forehead.

The Black-armored Zombie was knocked off balance by the punch and reeled backward.

However, as it staggered backward, it didn't forget to lash out with its sharp claws toward Clove.

Clove took half a step back, dodging the strike, then, like a tiger pouncing on its prey, charged straight into the Black-armored Zombie's embrace, driving the bone knife viciously into its chin.

Creek.

The newly formed black scales briefly slowed the knife's progress before being pierced through.

The Black-armored Zombie let out a roar and stretched out its arms, attempting to tightly grasp Clove.

But Clove, who had landed a successful blow, was not afraid. He used a headbutt to shove the Black-armored Zombie away!

With every strike, Clove used all the strength in his body, every blow delivered with full force!

Bang!

Blood splattered!

Clove reversed his grip on the bone knife, leaping into the air and bringing the knife down like a chisel, aiming for the Black-armored Zombie's skull.

The Black-armored Zombie, knocked backward by the headbutt, raised its hands and crossed them to block its head, reaching out to grab Clove.

At that moment, Clove acted like he hadn't even seen it, delivering a heavy blow!

The sharp tip of the knife pierced through the Black-armored Zombie's head scales and drove into the skull, but it couldn't push any further.

At the same time, the zombie's claws slashed at Clove's chest.

Clove clenched his left fist mid-air, then, in a single motion, slammed the fist into the knife handle.

There was a sickening plop.

The bone knife plunged deeply into the Black-armored Zombie's skull.

Bang!

The Black-armored Zombie collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

The room was filled with nothing but Clove's heavy breathing.

Looking at the claw marks left across his chest by the Black-armored Zombie, Clove casually wiped them off, found a first aid kit in the room, and wrapped some gauze around the wounds, calling it good enough.

As a superpowered being, he didn't have to worry about being infected by the zombie virus.

For those with superpowers, they were simply on a different evolutionary path than zombies. After all, the source of both their abilities and the zombie virus came from the same blood rain.

It was just that his power had developed a year ahead of the virus.

After his battle with the Black-armored Zombie, Clove could clearly feel that his progress in unlocking the genetic lock had reached 50%. With one or two more intense battles, Clove was confident that he could break through the first genetic lock!

True Evolution Begins!

Zombies evolve, with their individual strength growing constantly. They even develop intelligence that can rival that of humans. Within their vast numbers, there have even emerged Zombie Lords who can control entire hordes!

As for humans, after the apocalypse, they unlock the genetic locks that limit the human body and take the path toward becoming something beyond human, something extraordinary!

With sheer strength alone, one person can destroy a city, wipe out a nation. In the apocalypse, it's not just talk—it's something that can really be done!

And his space ability? It's not just about having one space!

In his previous life, a single Zombie Lord almost destroyed half a country, killing nearly two-thirds of the survivors. And he? He had been pierced in the abdomen by the Zombie Lord during that battle between humans and zombies, lying on the battlefield waiting to die!

This time, it can't happen again!

He must grow stronger—by any means necessary, grow stronger!

"Is anyone there? Wuwuwu~ Is anyone there? Please, please help me."

"I haven't eaten in two days... Wuwuwu~"

Clove listened carefully as the sound of desperate cries came from the room next door.

It was a girl, and her voice was sweet, though tinged with obvious distress.
