Chapter 56 -56 Mrs. Xia’s Choice_1

Seeing everyone staring at her, Mrs. Xia wiped her tears, knowing that crying would do no good. She took a deep breath and said resolutely, “Mother, you were the one who begged to exchange land with us, and the land we gave your family was the most fertile. We even have a written agreement to prove it. I don’t think there is anything for which I should feel sorry towards your family. If you want to wait for my husband to come back and complain to him, or even want him to divorce me, I accept it!”

Compared to her husband, she loved her daughter more.

Between the two, she would obviously choose the latter.

Xia Ningxing, not surprisingly, ran up to her and hugged her tightly.

Seeing her own plans fall through, Old Mrs. Xia was so angry that she was beyond embarrassment and cursed, “You wretched woman, you dare not listen to your mother-in-law’s words? Are you trying to rebel?”

“What’s all this noise about!” At that moment, a stern voice came in. It was the village head, followed by the eldest brother, “Old Mrs. Xia, what kind of behavior is this? It was your family who shamelessly asked to exchange land with Jianren’s family, and it was done in front of me with signed documents. How can you go back on your word now!”

The village head had learned the ins and outs of the situation on his way over from the younger members of the Xia family and, seeing her still so arrogant, immediately pointed at her nose and lectured.

Old Mrs. Xia’s face turned red, and she stiffened her neck, “Village head, this is our family’s business, don’t interfere.”

“Aren’t you a member of Peach Blossom Village?” the village head shouted angrily, “As long as you’re a member of Peach Blossom Village for even a day, then I am in charge!”

Old Mrs. Xia, left without face, knew there would be no resolution today, and could only bite her teeth in hatred and glare at Mrs. Xia before leaving, “Jianren’s family, just you wait and see!”

If she couldn’t make them divorce, she would eat chicken droppings!

Mrs. Xia clenched her fists, knowing that this old witch would definitely try to sabotage her relationship with her husband and that her husband, being a real filial man, might just divorce her.

The thought of being without a man sent her into a spiral of confusion, not knowing what to do.

“Mom, don’t be afraid, I will always be by your side,” Xia Ningxing caught on to her trembling, and rushed over with her small, soft body to embrace her, comforting her in a sweet, sticky voice.

“Bao’er!”

Mrs. Xia squatted down and hugged her tightly, as if she were her everything, with tears falling onto her neck.

Xia Ningxing’s throat felt tight, and even though Mrs. Xia was not her biological mother, she had long considered her as such. Thinking of how she had hurt her before, Xia Ningxing felt a regretful pang in her heart, “Mom, I’m sorry about earlier, I didn’t mean those words about not needing you.”

“Mom knows, mom knows it all, no apologies are needed. It’s your grandmother’s fault for being too excessive, and it’s also mom’s fault for not having the courage to stand up to her,” Mrs. Xia said between sobs, covering her small mouth to stop her from apologizing.

For years, even though her mother-in-law had always been harsh and malicious towards her, she remembered her husband’s instructions before he left, and she had kept silent and did not argue with her mother-in-law, thus enabling Old Mrs. Xia to become increasingly arrogant.

Xia Ningxing smiled at her, “How could that be, Mom? You did great this time.”

Praised by her daughter, Mrs. Xia suddenly broke into a smile, delighted beyond words.

Xia Ningxing held her slightly rough hand, seeming to remember something, and a smile also appeared on her face, “Oh mom, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“What is it?” Mrs. Xia asked curiously.

The five older brothers also widened their eyes, waiting for her to continue.

Blinking her eyes, Xia Ningxing responded, “The TV show I filmed half a year ago has been released, and we can watch it tonight!”

A few days ago, she had received a call from Director Xu, informing her of this news.

Mrs. Xia was thrilled, “Then… then does that mean I’ll be able to see our Bao’er on TV?”

Showcasing her dimples, Xia Ningxing confirmed, “Yes, that’s right.”
