Chapter 154: Base Leaders Meeting

When Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu arrived, half the attendees were already in the meeting room.

At a glance, the two saw many familiar faces, but everyone was keeping to themselves, so they didn’t say hello.

Instead, they found their seats, sat, and waited for the others to arrive.

It didn’t take long for everyone to arrive.

After another ten minutes, all the attendees had arrived and everyone had taken their place.

"Good morning." Xie Ya, one of Xuanyuan Qi’s close aides, greeted everyone.

"It’s cold, so I will get to the point and release everyone as soon as possible." She said and quickly continued.

"First, the weather. You should have noticed that today is colder than yesterday. We have only just begun the third month of winter, and the following months will only get colder. We hope you will keep this in mind when developing the new land." She said, and on cue, another aide stood, ready to present a report.

"The base subsidised clothes, beddings and other winter supplies, but we still lost three thousand and forty-five people over the last month. Most of the victims are the elderly and children." The person reported in a solemn voice.

"All deaths from freezing?" Someone asked, and the aide nodded before explaining.

"Most of the affected are residents of zone E." He said and subconsciously frowned before continuing.

"Zone E residents live in tents, but not all tents are equipped for winter. Some of the tents are made of light material and can’t withstand the heavy snow."

"As a result, it’s not uncommon for tents to collapse and for those living inside to be buried in snow."

No one knew what to say after hearing this.

Although almost everyone was sympathetic, the base neither had enough houses to resettle everyone in zone E nor extra four-season tents to distribute to struggling survivors.

Not even Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu could help in this situation since zone E required more things than they could currently provide.

"It’s a mess." Someone muttered, and no one could argue.

"After discussing, it’s our opinion that tents should only be used in emergencies and not at normal times. Consider this when developing the new territories." Xie Ya said and began reading the next report.

"Excluding the deaths from freezing, the expansion has resulted in a death toll of almost ten thousand people."

After that, she read the specific statistics, and everyone turned to Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu.

Team Legends had the lowest fatalities with only seventy one deaths.

However, this not only made some of the people admire team Legends but also fear them.

After all, Team Legends’ district eight was among the second tier of territories in terms of size.

Most importantly, the territory had the most zombies and using this logic, Team Legends should have suffered more losses.

Unexpectedly, not only did the team manage to clear the district with an army of only five thousand, but they also suffered the least losses.

"It’s unscientific." Someone whispered. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu are level three superpowers. It’s not strange that they pulled such a feat."

"Is it really not strange? Even if they are level three superpowers, can they cover the world with one hand?"

"Maybe the area didn’t have as many zombies as we thought."

"It’s possible."

"I don’t think so." Someone refuted and quickly continued.

"The WMB stadium is in that district, and I happen to know that there was a concert there on the night of the apocalypse. We are talking almost one hundred thousand zombies in the stadium alone."

"So many?"

Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu didn’t react when they heard the whispers.

Rather than offering an explanation, they allowed everyone to draw their own conclusion.

Fortunately, no one suspected that either Mo Chenxuan or Qin Wu had the spiritual ability.

After the whispers simmered down, Xie Ya continued her report.

Base population...

Supplies...

Crime...

She touched on every subject before returning to the topic of territory development.

"As you know, development will be conducted in two phases. The first phase involves the base wall, and the second phase is internal development." She said, and everyone perked up.

"This time, we will build a base wall that is twenty metres high and ten metres thick."

Hearing this, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu exchanged a glance and nodded.

From their experience, the suggested dimensions were standard and adequate.

A ten-metre thick wall was just right to mount wall weapons, carry damage, and allow easy movement of vehicles and people along the wall.

As for the height, it was high enough to thwart non-flying threats but short enough to ensure that ability and weapon attacks would hit targets without losing power.

However, building such a wall would not only require physical resources but also time.

On cue, Xie Ya began detailing the resources and manpower needed to build the wall.

"As previously agreed, each district will be responsible for the portion of the wall corresponding to its territory. However, building the wall will be a unified task, and the territories only need to allocate the necessary resources." She said, and subconsciously narrowed her eyes.

The base wall was the first line of defence.

Considering this, the base couldn’t take chances and planned to let the main army take charge of the resources, including the contributed manpower and building materials.

"What about gates? Can’t each district have its own outer gate?" Someone asked, but the suggestion was immediately shot down.

Even Qin Wu and Mo Chenxuan were against this idea.

Although having their own gate would make things more convenient, Mo Chenxuan felt that more gates would compromise the base’s security.

After all, people were inherently greedy, and few could be counted on to consider the bigger picture.

If each district was allowed to have its own gate, it would only be a matter of time before all manner of things were allowed in and out of the base.

"The gates in the new wall will follow the same layout as those on the current wall. All under the control of the main base." Xie Ya stated in a matter-of-fact voice.

"What about the current base wall? Will it be demolished?" Someone asked, but Xie Ya shook her head and continued talking.

"If the new wall is the first line of defence and the territorial armies are the second line, the third is the current wall. If, God forbid, the first two lines of defence collapse, survivors can retreat inside the second wall and hopefully have a chance of survival."

No one could refute this logic.

After all, the future was unpredictable, and all that they could do was prepare for as many variables as possible.

"Is there a timeline for building the wall and developing the territories?" Someone asked.

"We aim to complete the wall by the end of March. As for the territories..."

At this, Xie Ya paused with a thoughtful expression.

A moment later, she nodded and continued.

"You have until the end of June to build everything that needs building, including apartment buildings, roads, power systems, water systems, and others. The initial resettlement must be completed by the end of the first week of summer." She said.

In this way, the meeting went on until early evening.

By the time they returned to Villa Eight, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu were freezing, hungry, and tired.

"It’s been a while since I last endured an all-day meeting." Qin Wu stated as soon as they arrived home.

"Young master, young miss, you can have a bath first. Dinner will be ready in a few minutes." Aunt Zhang said, looking at the two with sympathetic eyes.

"Thank you, Aunt Zhang." Qin Wu said and hurried upstairs.

A hot shower and meal later, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu cuddled on the sofa, watching a short drama with hot coffee cups in their hands.

"I hate sadomasochistic dark romances." Qin Wu said and subconsciously frowned.

The current drama was a dark romance where the male lead misunderstood the female lead for eight years.

As a result, he mistreated the female lead and almost cost her life several times.

In these kinds of dramas, Qin Wu always rooted for the second lead, who helps the main protagonist get out of the bad situation and even get revenge.

Unfortunately, most of these sadomasochist romances rarely went that route.

Instead, the main protagonist eventually forgot the pain and gave their main love interest another chance.

Qin Wu had never understood the psychology and logic of giving another chance.

After all, putting the misunderstanding aside, the way the love interest treated the protagonist was an insight into their nature.

Was it really okay to be with a person who was capable of unspeakable violence against a person they supposedly love, just because of a misunderstanding?

Qin Wu didn’t think it was and always felt that such dramas were not worth watching.

"He didn’t give her a chance to explain and directly sent her to prison, where she was badly tortured. After she came out, he still didn’t let her go and forced her to work in a nightclub where she was beaten and raped."

"Does it make sense to forgive him just because the ’misunderstanding’ was cleared? Chenxuan, tell me, is this something that a normal person can get over and continue being in love with their torturer?" Qin Wu angrily questioned, and Mo Chenxuan couldn’t help but feel helpless.

’She already checked the ending before we started the show and knew what would happen. Why is she still so angry?’ He silently complained, but what could he do?

In the end, Mo Chenxuan gritted his teeth and joined Qin Wu in ranting about the short drama that lacked all common sense.
