Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 155: Fifty Seven
Development began as scheduled, and in no time, the exterior base wall was complete.
After that, resources were diverted back, and territorial development began.
During this time, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu were not idle.
In addition to coordinating the development process, they began making arrangements for the territory’s population and social structure.
First, they made a comprehensive list of acceptable occupations and asked Uncle Zhang to approve residents in accordance with the list.
This way, excluding a special quota for children and the elderly, everyone else would be a contributing member of the territory.
Other than the job list, they formed a small team to come up with basic rules for the territory.
These rules clearly outlined the territory’s taboos and subsequent punishments.
However, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu had no intention of running a long-term prison system.
After all, they were in an apocalypse and rather than waste resources on heinous criminals, they were more inclined to kill them.
As a result, crimes like rape, murder, slavery, human trafficking, cannibalism, treason, and such were directly given the death sentence.
On the contrary, other crimes had punishments ranging from a few days of detention and fines to being kicked out of the territory.
The document was not perfect.
However, they did their best given the circumstances and the resources at hand.
On this day, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu were poring over reports when they heard a knock.
"Come in." Qin Wu said without looking up
A moment later, the door opened and a woman walked in.
The woman was Xu Anying.
"Anying, is something wrong?" Qin Wu asked, but Xu Anying shook her head.
"Nothing is wrong." Xu Anying did and quickly continued.
"I have found what you asked me to find." She said, prompting Qin Wu and Mo Chenxuan to immediately raise their heads.
"You have found a capable researcher?" Mo Chenxuan asked, and Xu Anying nodded before shaking her head.
"What do you mean?"
"I didn’t find one. I found a team of fifty seven."
Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu were pleasantly surprised when they heard this.
However, they soon realised that the situation was not simple, so they began questioning Xu Anying.
"What’s going on and why are there so many?" Qin Wu asked.
"The team was originally a special detachment of the Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation before the apocalypse. Unfortunately, they worked in a hidden underground base and were seemingly forgotten when the apocalypse began."
"So that’s how it is?" Qin Wu muttered and nodded in understanding.
The Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation was a manufacturer of spacecraft, missile systems, launch vehicles, and ground equipment. A team of fifty seven is just right to drive our apocalypse technology agenda, including weapons, communication systems, vehicles and other things." Mo Chenxuan said.
"Anying, what else did you foresee?" Qin Wu asked, and Xu Anying began explaining.
Because she knew the matter was important, Xu Anying spent weeks trying to squeeze details out of her predictions.
As a result, she not only found the team but also uncovered their location and current situation.
The team originally had more than four hundred researchers.
Unfortunately, more than three hundred became zombies and were killed by the remaining security personnel.
After the initial panic, the researchers thought of leaving, but their location was a death zone, surrounded by zombies on all sides.
In the end, they stayed put to wait for rescue, but no one remembered them since the apocalypse began.
"How long can they stay down there?" Qin Wu asked.
"They have enough food and water to last another three months. After that,..." Xu Anying didn’t finish, but they all understood.
"Where is the research base?" Mo Chenxuan asked, and Xu Anying immediately pointed at a place on city B’s map.
"That’s in the city." Qin Wu observed and subconsciously frowned.
"We would have no chance if it were summer, but it’s winter." Mo Chenxuan said with a thoughtful expression.
"Zombies are not the only problem, though." Qin Wu said and quickly continued.
"It’s snowing heavily, and roads are impassable to vehicles. If we do this, we will have to walk there and back."
After saying that, Qin Wu turned to Xu Anying.
"Anying, what do you think? Is that team worth the trouble?" She asked, and Xu Anying immediately nodded.
"The researchers in that team are the best of the best. Some of them are in no way inferior to a genius like Qi Shu."
Qin Wu was excited when she heard this.
After all, Qi Shu was the father of apocalypse technology.
If they had a team of researchers that was not inferior to Qi Shu, wouldn’t their territory take off and become a technology hub?
"Anying, keep an eye on those researchers. Notify us if anything changes." Qin Wu said with a solemn expression.
At the same time, she took out one hundred purified crystal cores and gave them to Xu Anying.
"This is your reward. Keep up the good work." She said.
"Thank you, boss."
After Xu Anying left, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu huddled over the map.
"Rescuing the researchers won’t be as easy as retrieving the blueprints." Mo Chenxuan stated, and Qin Wu nodded.
"I know." She said.
First, they would need to deal with zombies and other threats along the way.
Second, the weather was too cold, and walking was a problem.
If they had to bring a group of researchers with them, the situation would become even more complicated and difficult.
"Although it’s troublesome, winter is our only chance. We will have to give up on them if we don’t rescue them before winter ends." Mo Chenxuan stated, and Qin Wu agreed.
After winter, that area would have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of zombies.
Even if Team Legends was powerful, they were not enough to deal with so many unfrozen zombies.
Also, zombies would become lively when summer began.
At that time, Mo Chenxuan and his people would be too busy defending the base to even consider going on a rescue mission.
