Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 161: Summer’s Eve
It was almost two in the afternoon when Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu arrived in Villa Eight.
However, after a month of travelling and fighting, both were tired and didn’t feel like doing much.
In the end, they showered, had a late lunch and spent the remainder of the day lazing in the villa.
Night passed and morning came.
After waking, cleaning up, and having breakfast, the two holed up in the study and began reading reports.
"Everything is almost ready." Qin Wu said, sighed, and lightly pinched the area between her brows.
She was tired.
However, everything was worth it.
"Chenxuan, should we prepare an alternative emblem? What if another faction also uses a taijitu?" She asked.
"Wu’er, I don’t know why, but I am a little invested in this symbol. It’s simple and unimaginative, but it encapsulates everything we stand for. We shouldn’t compromise." Mo Chenxuan said with a serious expression.
"I also like it very much. At worst, we will lose a few supplies to secure the right to use the taijitu." Qin Wu said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded in agreement.
"Now that we have an emblem, the next step is to sew a territory flag, carve a jade seal, and forge leader badges." He stated.
"Let’s find people to do these things." Qin Wu immediately suggested.
She knew how to sew.
After all, she had taken a home science class in middle school, but that didn’t mean she wanted to do it.
Most importantly, her needlework was functional at best and had nothing to do with beauty.
"Maybe we will find suitable artisans among the people who have been approved to reside in our territory." Mo Chenxuan said.
After that, the two looked over the list and indeed found an embroiderer and a metal artisan. Unfortunately, they didn’t find a jade sculptor who could be hired to make the territory seal.
’We may have to make it ourselves.’ Mo Chenxuan thought but didn’t worry too much.
"Chenxuan, there is still one last thing." Qin Wu said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
"The list of chiefs and deputy chiefs."
"Right."
Formulating this list was a headache for both Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu.
Excluding the main members of Team Legends, the two didn’t have a deep understanding of other people.
As a result, they were stuck on some positions and couldn’t decide who to appoint.
"Wu’er, what do you think of one chief and two deputies for each position? We will appoint the chief and one deputy, but leave the second deputy position for the chief to appoint."
"It’s a good idea." Qin Wu nodded.
After deciding, the two first filled the chief positions they were sure about, including COO, CFO, CMO, CLEO, CHEO, and CSO.
Chief Operating Officer (COO): Zhang Huizhong (Uncle Zhang)
Chief Financial Officer (CFO): Xu Fei
First deputy: Wang Neng (Aunt Zhang)
Chief Military Officer (CMO): Xiao Junxie
First deputy: Lu Yanyan
Chief Legal and Enforcement Officer (CLEO): Lu Hao
First deputy: Tang Jun
Chief Health and Education Officer (CHEO): Lin Rongrong
Chief Strategy Officer (CSO): Xu Anying
Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu originally wanted Lu Yanyan to be the first deputy in the legal and enforcement department.
However, after thinking about it, they felt she was more suitable for the military.
Despite her age, Lu Yanyan was powerful and wise. She could not only kill zombies but also coordinate intelligence gathering and other operations.
"I think Luo Zhan is a shoo-in for the Chief Research Officer position." Qin Wu said, and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
From what they had observed, Tang Cheng was an all-rounder; both a researcher and an administrator.
Unfortunately, most of the older generation researchers, including Tang Cheng, chose to enter the base institute.
That said, Luo Zhan was not a compromise.
Although his talent in administration wasn’t as high as Tang Cheng’s, he more than made up for it with his research talent.
Considering that, Qin Wu and Mo Chenxuan planned to appoint him as head and find an administrator to be one of his deputies.
After working for more than a day, the two finally completed a list of nine chiefs and nine deputies. When this was done, they sent a message to the chiefs and asked them to appoint one deputy for themselves.
"I feel like I could sleep for ten days." Qin Wu said and flopped on the sofa.
"It’s been a rough couple of days." Mo Chenxuan agreed.
"Chenxuan, how about a honeymoon after the wedding?"
"Wedding..., you want to have a wedding?"
Qin Wu rolled her eyes when she heard this.
"I know." She said.
"You know? What do you know?" Mo Chenxuan feigned ignorance.
"Aren’t you secretly planning a wedding?" Qin Wu teased, and Mo Chenxuan sighed.
"How did you find out?" He asked.
"Did you think I wouldn’t notice you trying to measure me at every opportunity?"
"Was it so obvious?"
Qin Wu didn’t answer.
Instead, she leaned over and kissed the man.
"Thank you." She said.
Mo Chenxuan smiled when he heard this and subconsciously rubbed his woman’s hair.
"Wu’er, I love you, and I don’t want us to miss out on anything." He said.
"I know. I love you too."
After that, the two silently accompanied each other and didn’t say a word until it was time to go to bed.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye, and before they knew it, it was the last day of winter.
Although it was still a little cold, snow had stopped falling, and the ground layer had already begun melting.
As a result, some people could be seen using the residual snow to make snowmen or have snow fights.
’People are resilient.’ Qin Wu thought as she watched a group of street children hitting each other with snowballs.
"I wonder how many people will miss winter when summer comes." She said aloud.
"Almost everyone." Mo Chenxuan chuckled.
The apocalypse was a classic case of ’the grass is always greener on the other side’.
When it was summer, survivors missed winter, and when it was winter, people missed summer.
Unfortunately, in the apocalypse, there was no middle ground between these two extremes.
Thinking of this, Qin Wu turned to Mo Chenxuan.
"Chenxuan, does the weather ever get better?" She asked.
After all, Mo Chenxuan lived in the apocalypse for more than thirty years in their previous life.
Hearing the question, Mo Chenxuan sighed and shook his head.
"It gets worse." He said and quickly continued.
"However, humans are very adaptable. We will all get used to it after a few seasons."
"I wish we didn’t have to get used to it." Qin Wu said in a melancholic voice.
"I know." Mo Chenxuan said, rubbing his woman’s hair.
That evening, the main members of Team Legends gathered together for a summer’s eve party.
They called it a party, but the reality was just a small gathering between friends.
For this gathering, Aunt Zhang prepared a hotpot meal with different kinds of meats and vegetables.
"We won’t be able to eat hotpot until after the summer. Let’s enjoy it while we still can." Qin Wu said, already feeling nostalgic.
"What’s wrong with eating hotpot during the summer?" Lin Rongrong asked, and Qin Wu sneered.
"I will dare you to eat a hot meal, let alone hotpot, in a few days." She said.
Hearing this, Lin Rongrong snorted.
"What is the big deal about a hot meal? I will dare to it." She said and quickly continued.
"What’s the wager?" She asked.
"I will let you decide." Qin Wu generously offered.
"How about a crystal weapon? I want another crystal weapon."
"Deal." Qin Wu readily agreed.
"What about you? What do you want?" Lin Rongrong asked, looking at Qin Wu with curious eyes.
Qin Wu didn’t immediately answer.
Instead, she fell silent and thought about what she should ask of Lin Rongrong.
With regards to supplies, she had enough and didn’t need to rob her own people.
In the end, she could only think of labour.
"You will be my assistant for one month if you lose." She said, and a hint of mischief flashed in her eyes.
"One week." Lin Rongrong countered, and Qin Wu sneered.
"Aren’t you confident in yourself?"
"Who wants to talk in absolutes?" Lin Rongrong snorted and quickly continued.
"I have never been in an apocalypse summer, so why should I cut off my retreat path?"
Hearing this, Qin Wu looked at Lin Rongrong with a hint of admiration, but didn’t agree to one week.
"Twenty days." She said.
"Two weeks is my final offer." Lin Rongrong said, and Qin Wu nodded in agreement.
However, four hours later, Lin Rongrong regretted her decision because at exactly midnight, a wave of burning heat swept the world.
Like winter’s eve, those who were asleep were woken by the sudden change in temperature.
However, this time, they didn’t put on more clothes but began shedding them.
’This is hell.’ Lin Rongrong thought as she desperately removed her clothes.
