Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife-Chapter 391: Let go of the case you are working on
Meanwhile, Kaden and Sherlyn had arrived at her father's house. Jeremy had specifically asked her to bring Kaden along for an introduction, but now that they sat in the car outside the mansion, she realized Kaden had been unusually quiet.
"Don't tell me now you're nervous?" Sherlyn asked, snapping Kaden out of his thoughts.
His dazed eyes met her furrowed expression, a flicker of distraction flashing through his mind before he shook his head.
"I'm not nervous," he said. "But… what do you think your father will say to me? Will he object? Or maybe even threaten me to leave his daughter?"
Sherlyn rolled her eyes at his dramatic questions. She hadn't realized that making him watch all those romantic dramas would melt his good brain cells like this.
Why would her father say anything like that? It's not like he doesn't already know about them.
"You know what, Kaden? I made a mistake forcing you to binge those shows. Your brain is officially wrecked. Snap out of your odd thoughts—nothing's going to happen," Sherlyn said, brushing off his worries as she stepped out of the car.
By the time they entered the house, Sherlyn noticed her father was already waiting for them.
"Miss," the butler greeted her respectfully.
"Uncle John, how are you?" Sherlyn asked warmly.
"Very well, Miss," the elderly man replied with a polite smile.
"This is Kaden," she said, introducing him before Uncle John led them further into the house.
When they reached Jeremy's study, Sherlyn saw her father was already on a call.
Kaden stood quietly beside her, waiting for him to finish. But even as he remained still, he didn't miss the faint furrow between Jeremy's brows.
By the time Jeremy ended the call, his eyes flickered with something odd—something Kaden couldn't quite place, but it made him raise a brow.
"So, you both are here," Jeremy said, setting his phone aside.
"Why are you two standing? Have a seat," he added, gesturing toward the chairs in front of him.
They both sat down in their respective seats.
"You were on a call, so we thought it was better to wait until you were done," Sherlyn explained.
"Well, now that I'm free, how about you formally introduce us, Sherlyn?" Jeremy said, his tone polite but noticeably formal.
Kaden remained observant. Jeremy Norman was a proud man, sharp and calculating, with the ability to shift his demeanor to suit any situation.
"You already know him, Dad," Sherlyn began. "But Kaden, this is my father, Jeremy—"
"Norman. Who doesn't know the mayor?" Kaden said, extending his hand for a handshake. "It's a pleasure to meet you in person, sir."
Jeremy's handshake was firm, and his eyes searched Kaden's face with quiet scrutiny.
Kaden knew Jeremy was a self-made man, someone who had climbed the ladder through relentless effort. But there were parts of his life that didn't quite add up—layers that remained hidden, even after Kaden had run thorough searches on him.
Back when he and Sherlyn had been just friends, he'd known of her father's influence. But over the years they were apart, Jeremy had not only expanded his business empire in the medical field; he had also risen to become the mayor of the country.
It was impressive—undeniably so—but also suspicious.

As their conversation continued, an unexpected call from Luke made Kaden excuse himself from the room, leaving Sherlyn behind with her father.
"I heard you took on an exceptional case. A patient suffering from Alzheimer's," Jeremy said, catching Sherlyn off guard.
Her surprise didn't last long, though—she quickly reminded herself that it was typical of her father to always know what was going on in her life.
"I thought you were too busy to pay attention to what I was doing," she said, arching a brow. "Guess I was wrong. You still like keeping tabs on me."
"I care about you, Sherlyn," Jeremy replied calmly. "And there's nothing wrong with keeping an eye on my daughter's well-being. But there's something I want you to reconsider."
That caught her attention, her curiosity piqued.
"You're not about to ask me to reconsider dating Kaden, are you? Because if you are, then I'm telling you now—I'm not going to listen to you, Dad. Kaden isn't someone I can just let go of."
Jeremy chuckled softly, and the sound only made the frown between her brows deepen.
"You think I don't know he's the man you've been longing for all these years?" Jeremy said, catching Sherlyn completely off guard.
"The countless blind dates you rejected without a second thought were enough to show me just how much you care about him," he continued, his gaze cutting right through her.
"So rest assured—I'm not going to ask you to leave him. You two already wasted enough years staying apart."
Sherlyn blinked, surprised by the unexpected support. "Then what is it you want me to reconsider?" she asked. Her father might have cleared her doubts about Kaden, but the curiosity still lingered.
Jeremy's expression shifted, the calm giving way to something far more serious.
"Let go of the case you're working on. It's not going to end well."
Sherlyn's brows furrowed. "Are you doubting my ability, Dad?" she asked, her voice edged with disbelief.
Jeremy had never questioned her professionalism before. He'd always respected her dedication, her drive. But now, out of nowhere, he was asking her to abandon a case she was fully invested in—not just for Valeria's sake, but for Eveline's, too. They needed this case to expose Jedrick.
"I'm not doubting you, Sherlyn," Jeremy said, his voice quiet but firm. "I just don't want you getting tangled in something that will leave you questioning everything—including yourself. So please... think about it. Let the case go."
"No, Dad. That's for me to decide. And you've always believed in me," Sherlyn said firmly.
She had no idea why her father was suddenly asking her to back out of Valeria's case—but she wouldn't. She had already given her word to Eveline, and she intended to keep it. They were going to bring Jedrick down, no matter what.
"I'm sorry, but I need to leave," Kaden's voice broke the tense atmosphere as he reentered the room.
Sherlyn quickly composed herself and stood up.
"Let's go," she said, her voice calm but clipped—catching both Kaden and Jeremy by surprise.
Kaden had originally planned to spend more time with them, but an unexpected emergency at work required him to return to the base. Still, when he noticed Jeremy didn't protest their sudden departure, he offered a polite apology.
"I apologize for the abruptness, sir. But I promise to see you again soon," he said respectfully.
Jeremy gave a short nod, his face unreadable as he watched the couple walk out.
The moment the door clicked shut, his calm demeanor faltered, giving way to a worried expression. Sherlyn's rejection of his request settled on him like a weight, heavy and unwelcome.
