After her long speech, Elias Crownie said,"Violet... that's your name, isn't it?"
"Y-Yes, Mr. Crownie." Her smile froze. That was not the response she had anticipated.
"Report to the Rules and Regulation Department."
"S-Sir?"
But Elias paid her no attention and instead turned toward Jazmine Harrison with a smile."Sister Jazmine, I've personally come down to receive you! I'm so sorry for the inconvenience caused by my being late. Please forgive me." Elias bowed slightly, his lips curling into a mischievous smile.
"There's no need," Jazmine laughed.
"Follow me, Sister Jazmine. President Crowne has been waiting for you since morning. I'll guide you to his office."
As Elias guided Jazmine up, the female receptionist stood aghast. To be called "Sister" by the second master, to be apologized to by him, and to have the 'Devil' waiting for her since morning...
Just what kind of woman was that? The receptionist broke into a cold sweat. What kind of demon had she just offended? She was finished.
When Jazmine walked toward Sebastian Crowne's office, she became the object of countless stares. Only once she disappeared from sight did the floor erupt into fierce gossiping. They all knew the President had been waiting for someone since morning. That had never happened before.
And it was a woman! Naturally, their imaginations ran wild.
"No way—I thought President Crowne was gay!" one blurted.
"Are you stupid? Do you want to die? If you're tired of living, fine, but don't drag us with you!"
"But seriously, who is that mysterious lady who stole our President's heart?" a more gossipy voice exclaimed. "We have to know who she is and butter her up if we get the chance. After all, she's going to be our future Ms. Boss!"
"Why are you all so excited? This is the first time we've seen her. That's not proof she's the future Ms. Boss. Remember, Sarah Blackwood has made plenty of visits here."
"But President never waited for her. He made her wait—sometimes long—and he'd drive her out quickly. That's not how you treat someone you're close to."
"Why don't we flatter the second young master and ask him who this mysterious lady is?"
When Elias Crownie walked back out from the executive floor, he was swarmed by eager employees, their tails practically wagging with anticipation. Surrounded by flattery and praise, he looked smug and delighted.
"Second Master, tell us! Who is this lady?"
"Should we expect good news?"
"C'mon, tell us something! We won't breathe a word. We swear!"
"Humph! If you guys are that eager, I'll tell you something," Elias said, head held high ."But make sure not to whisper a thing to others. You don't want to create unnecessary trouble in the company, do you?"
"We wouldn't!" they chorused.
He leaned in and whispered, very softly, as if revealing the biggest secret in the world: "This lady... is going to be your future boss."
"WHAT?!"
"Shh! Things aren't quite there yet. But they will be. With me overseeing it, they will move forward. So don't cause any trouble and treat her with the utmost respect. You wouldn't want to ruin things before they've even started, would you?"
"We wouldn't!"
"Then keep quiet," Elias smiled wickedly.
In just ten minutes, the rumor had spread throughout the entire building. Elias, observing the wave of chaos he'd sparked, laughed gleefully."Now it'll be no time before this reaches Caroline Anderson's ears. God, I can't wait to see her reaction." He knew exactly what he'd done when he whispered those words to his "loyal" employees.
And he had done it all on purpose.
After a soft knock, Jazmine Harrison entered the spacious office. Inside, a man was seated cross-legged behind a large mahogany desk. He wore a tailored, formal suit. His aura—while calmly seated on that grand leather chair—was impossibly heavy.
It couldn't be overlooked. Now that Jazmine saw him sitting there in all his majesty, she truly understood the gravity of "The Devil." No wonder he'd terrorized the business world. His presence alone was too much.
"Please take a seat, President Harrison." His voice was soft, yet carried an undeniable weight. The subtle force behind it snapped Jazmine out of her thoughts.
She stepped toward his desk but paused abruptly. Looking into his deep eyes, she was instantly reminded of what had happened last night. How they had kissed deeply and... and...
Her reactions must've been obvious because Sebastian Crowne's lips curled up."Something on your mind, President Harrison? Something you'd like to share with me?"
Hearing the teasing lilt in his voice and quickly catching on to what he was implying, Jazmine pressed her lips into a fine line and wrestled her composure back.
"Don't overthink it, President Crowne. There hasn't been anything interesting enough to linger in my thoughts."Her words clearly implied that whatever happened the night before meant nothing to her—that it hadn't affected her the way he might have thought.
"Oh?" Sebastian raised an eyebrow. The curve of his lips never wavered.
"Why don't I believe you?" he murmured.
He slowly rose from his chair, placing his hands over the desk, eyes gleaming with mischief. Jazmine's heart skipped at the way he looked at her. He looked devastatingly handsome. In his office, wearing that suit, there was an entirely different air about him.
Something that could shatter even the calmest heart—and Jazmine Harrison was anything but calm.
"From the looks of you, President Harrison, something very interesting has been going on in your life. Something that kept you up all night..."
Damn. Had he noticed her eye bags?
Of course, Jazmine hadn't slept well the night before—thinking about the things they did...
But she would never admit it.
Over her dead body.
"You're mistaken, President Crowne," she replied coolly."Then again, you've never been wrong before. So perhaps it's just your overconfidence leading to incorrect conclusions."
"Am I?" he murmured.
Suddenly, the distance between them shrank as Sebastian began walking toward her. Jazmine stood her ground, determined not to step back.
But as he came closer... her heart began to tremble.
