Chapter 124: Stronger than he looked

The guards who had been watching from a distance began to approach, murmuring amongst themselves.

Most had already dropped their weapons during the fight, and the rest followed suit the moment Qingran and Feng Yizhou turned toward them.

Feng Yizhou’s gaze swept across the room, his eyes narrowing slightly as he spoke. "Gather everyone. Soldiers, scientists, cleaners—if they breathe, they come here."

No one dared to argue, and within fifteen minutes, the entire facility staff had assembled in the warehouse-like hall—almost a hundred people in total.

Some wore uniforms, others wore white coats stained with chemicals, and a few still had blood splattered on them from the brief skirmish.

No one looked ready to fight anymore.

Feng Yizhou stepped forward slowly, his posture relaxed but commanding. His tone deepened, cutting through the murmurs like a knife.

"Don’t waste your breath asking what comes next. You already know." He looked each of them in the eye, his gaze lingering on some who flinched and others who held his gaze too long, trying to show false courage.

"There’s no escape out there. No rescue team. No heroes coming to save you. If you’ve been paying attention, then you know what’s spreading." He took a step forward, one that was slow and deliberate.

"The infection isn’t contained. The cities are falling. Sector by sector, block by block. You’ve seen the footage. You’ve heard the emergency comms. It’s already too late."

A pause hung in the air. "You think stepping outside these gates will save you? Then go. Run. Join the rest of them, watch your neighbor turn, listen to your child scream, and feel teeth in your throat while you cry for a government that has abandoned you months ago."

His voice didn’t rise, but the sharpness in it tightened the air around them.

"But if you’re still standing here, then you’re not completely stupid. This facility has the protection and tech. We have the food and knowledge to survive longer than any bunker or broken wall out there."

He raised his hand slightly, gesturing toward the wreckage of the skirmish behind him. "You’ve seen what we can do. What seen what I can do and it’s just bare minimum."

He gave a crooked smile. It was cold, tired, and real.

"If you stay, it’s simple. Pledge your loyalty. Give your skill. Follow orders. And in return. we’ll keep you alive. For as long as it matters."

A heavy silence dropped as he let the next words sink in.

"Because the truth is... we don’t know when the end will come. Could be weeks. Could be years. Or maybe tomorrow."

He let out a low exhale, almost amused. "Hell, we might all die before the sun rises."

Another step forward. "But until that moment? We keep fighting. We adapt. So we can win one today. Whatever’s happening right now, is because there’s a certain group of people who don’t care if the whole world burns to the ground." His gaze swept the room like a blade.

"So this is your one chance. No half-measures. No betrayals. You give us everything—or you leave with nothing." He opened his arms slightly, as if inviting the weight of their fear.

"Make your choice. Live for something... or die for nothing."

And then he waited. No more threats. No theatrics. Just the truth.

One by one, their heads lowered. First the guards. Then the scientists. Then even the ones who looked too scared to move, until all had knelt in silence, like survivors pledging not to a man—but to the last thing that could keep them alive.

Qingran pushed off the wall and walked over, stopping by Feng Yizhou’s side.

"Well. I guessed they picked a side."She murmured.

"That’s about 100 mouth to feed, plus the ones back at the safe house."

Feng Yizhou didn’t look back at her. He was still watching the crowd, his eyes sharp and calm.

"There’s a lot of stores in the capital. We can raid all of them.."

Feng Yizhou chuckled, luckily Caocao had open a system space for him. So he had transfer his hoardes into space and take them along with him.

"I need 3 leaders. If you know you’re ready for responsibility please step up. I need one person from security, the labs and 1 person that would oversee everyone."

Qingran spoke up as she glanced at the crowd, she would have to leave Feng Yizhou here and go bring the others in the safe house here.

Qingran raised a brow when she saw the people that had come outside.

A brawny man, a scrawny looking man and an intelligent looking man, much younger than his job role.

"A brief introduction of yourself and age will do."

The brawny man nodded and spoke up first.

"I’m Sun Zi Mo, ex military, major general, 12 years of experience, 32 years of age.."

Qingran raised her brow, major general at this age, that’s a feat.

"I’m impressed. Mr. Sun, you’ll be in charge in of the security here, I’ll give you a briefing soon.

"Understand madam."

".."

Qingran turned to the next person, who spoke up, "Hello ma’am. I’m Chang Saem, and I’d like to volunteer to oversee things on your behalf, I might look scrawny but I’m well versed in martial arts and a critical thinker."

Qingran stepped down, walking closer to observe Chang Saem.

Indeed he was really slim and tall, which made him look scrawny but since he said, he was well versed in martial arts, she would have to test it.

Her feet stilled as she raised her fist, her movement was so quick that even Sun Zi Mo didn’t notice it on time.

Bam!

A smile appeared on Qingran’s face, as thin as he looked, he was fast enough to block her hit.

"Chang Saem was it?"

"Yes ma’am.."

Qingran smiled and nodded, he was stronger than he looked.

"You should eat more. If you miscalculate and get hit...I’m afraid it’s going to kill you.."

"..."

"I shall do my best then.."

Lastly it was the intelligent looking man. He bowed slightly before introducing himself.

"My name is Fang Ming, 22 years old, I’m a toxicologist. I might be young but I’m good at my job.."
