Chapter 137: The apocalypse had begun(1)

Three hours later, the apartment door finally opened.

Haoyu emerged first, hair a little tousled, lips red, and the collar of his jacket clearly adjusted in a rush.

Meng Nian followed right after, a lot calmer but with a smugness that was barely hidden.

They stepped into the sunlight, only to stop short.

Qingran was leaning against the car with her arms folded and the kind of expression that could curdle milk. Her gaze cut like a blade the moment she saw them.

Qingran’s furious gaze swept over Haoyu and Meng Nian as they approached the car.

"What took you so long?" she demanded, her voice tight with anger.

Haoyu looked sheepish. "I’m sorry, older sister. We got...held up."

Qingran’s expression turned incredulous. "Held up? You’ve been gone for hours. I was worried sick."

Meng Nian watched the exchange with a neutral expression, but Haoyu could sense a hint of amusement behind his eyes.

"Get in the car," Qingran snapped, opening the door. "We need to get to the hangar. Now."

The drive to the hangar was tense, with Qingran’s anger still simmering. When they arrived, she barked orders at the pilot. "Prepare for takeoff immediately. We need to get out of here, now."

The pilot nodded and began making preparations for departure.

As they craft slowly got into the air, Qingran let out a deep breath, she could relax a bit now.

"Where are we heading?" Feng Yuxi asked, Qingran gave her a smile before replying.

"You’ll know when we get there.."

Back in the facility, Du Yuan, stared at the countdown, minutes left until the apocalypse would begin, he wanted Gu Qingran to be caught in the eye of the storm.

He glanced around before speeding up the timer to 10 minutes.

"I’ll be the one to kill you Gu Qingran, just you wait."

********************

Soon Guyoung had come into view, a loud gasps was heard as they saw the situation of the place.

"Are those..what the hell is going on here.."

Qingran nodded, it was finally time to address the group.

"My friends this is what you call an apocalypse, it looks like what you can control from up, but trust it once it starts spreading, it doesn’t stop...until everyone and everything is infected.."

"..."

"Then why did you bring us here?"

"Cause there’s a safe house here. I won’t put your lives in danger. If I wanted to, I wouldn’t have bothered coming back to B city."

".."

The mood in the aircraft had turned grave, the scene was too real not to believe Qingran’s words.

The moment Feng Yizhou received word that Qingran’s aircraft had entered Guyoung airspace, something eased in his chest.

His hand dropped from the comm, shoulders loosening ever so slightly.

She was coming. She was almost—

CRACK.

The sky split in half.

Red lightning tore across the clouds like claws, raking from horizon to horizon. Not once. Not twice.

It came again. And again.

Like a strobe light of judgment.

The wind howled, dry and electric. The facility lights flickered, then died completely.

The air itself seemed to burn red, charged and furious. The first shockwave hit, hard enough to rattle the windows, hard enough to send cracks rippling up the walls.

Then the ground began to shake.

First a tremor. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Then an earthquake.

Then a deep groaning, like something massive was waking up beneath the surface.

Yizhou’s heart stuttered as he ran to the rooftop, lungs heaving, and just as he reached it—

He saw the aircraft.

High above, fighting the turbulence. Wings tipping under the strain.

"Come on, come on," he whispered.

Then—

The next bolt slammed down.

It was a direct hit.

The right wing exploded.

Flames burst from the engine in a roar. The aircraft jolted, twisted, began to spiral out of control as another lightning strike hit—then another.

It lit up the entire sky in blood red.

The red lightning struck again and plane lurched, faltering, as the storm raged on, determined to consume it whole.

Yizhou didn’t even realize he was shouting.

He didn’t feel the way he burst down the stairs, didn’t register the alarms screaming through the halls. Everything was falling apart.

Every few seconds, another blast of lightning hit somewhere in the city, lighting up the skyline like a warzone.

The clouds churned, swallowing the sun, turning the whole city dark at midday.

The sky had transformed into a deep, foreboding crimson, as if the heavens themselves were bleeding.

Red lightning forked across the horizon, its jagged paths searing into the earth like branding irons.

The air was heavy with an otherworldly energy, making the hairs on the back of Yizhou’s neck stand on end.

The wind howled, a mournful cry that seemed to carry the whispers of the damned.

The clouds twisted and writhed, like living serpents coiled around the sky.

Feng Yizhou sprinted towards the crash site, his feet pounding the ground in desperation.

"QINGRAN!" he bellowed, his voice hoarse with fear. "QINGRAN!!"

As he reached the wreckage, he didn’t hesitate, diving into the twisted metal and flames. His coat caught fire, and ash smeared his face, but he didn’t care. He kept digging, calling out her name like a mantra.

"Qingran, please—where are you—!"

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the smoke. Qingran stepped out, her hair disheveled, clothes dusty, but miraculously unscathed.

The others followed, equally unharmed.

Feng Yizhou’s face crumpled, relief and anguish warring on his features.

He froze, then lunged forward, wrapping his arms around Qingran. His body shook, and warm tears soaked into her collar.

His voice was cracked. "I thought I lost you. I—God, Qingran—"

Qingran’s arms wrapped around him, holding him tight. "I’m okay." she whispered. "I’m here."

But Feng Yizhou’s grip only tightened, as if he couldn’t bear the thought of letting her go.

The wreckage around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them, clinging to each other in desperation.

"Are you okay?" He asked as he searched for any injures, but she had come out of the crash unscathed.

"I’m really fine." She smiled as she wiped his tears. "Such a big guy, crying like a kid."

He held her hands gently, smiling as she wiped the ash from his face.

"I love you, don’t leave me, let’s live long."

"..."

"You make it sound like we’re together."

"We are darling.."

[DING! SORRY HOST WE DIDNT RECEIVE THE NOTIFICATION ON TIME. THE DEADLINE HAD BEEN SHIFTED, THE APOCALYPSE HAS BEGAN.]

"DING! SORRY HOST WE DIDNT RECEIVE THE NOTIFICATION ON TIME. THE DEADLINE HAD BEEN SHIFTED, THE APOCALYPSE HAS BEGAN."

{THE APOCALYPSE HAS BEGAN}

All three systems rang out vividly in their hosts ears.

From the crash site, they gazed out upon a world gone mad. The sky was a deep, bloody red, as if the very heavens themselves were wounded.

The air was thick as it buzzed with energy, and the ground trembled beneath their feet.

In the distance, they saw the chaos unfold. Buildings burned, their windows shattered, and the streets were slick with blood and debris.

The undead shambled and lurched, their moans and screams carrying on the wind.

Qingran’s eyes widened as she took in the apocalyptic landscape. "It’s spreading," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the din. "The infection is spreading fast."
