Reborn As A Doomsday Villainess-Chapter 188: I don’t want to die
Chapter 188: I don’t want to die
Qingran sighed, she curled slightly... hoping they’ll get to the hotel faster.
She relaxed a little when they had crossed the barrier, Zhang Yi parked the car..squeezing out carefully and so did the others.
Qingran was the last person to come out.
She felt her vision darken slightly, sighing she paused waiting for her vision to stable before she moved again.
One step...
Two steps...
And straight to the ground she went.
"Qingran.." Yu Song rushed to her side, she lifted her up to see she was out cold. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
[Aiya. I saw it coming, I’ve been rejuvenating since now without the system abilities..her body has reached it’s limits.]
"She’s out cold. Let’s get her to one of the doctor. They’re in 34th floor."
Meng Nian said as he stared at Qingran, watching her fight those zombies, he wasn’t surprised she had collapsed.
"Alright" Yu Song scooped her up and ran to the elevator.
By the time they reached the 34th floor, Qingran’s skin was burning hot.
Her breaths came in short, shallow bursts, and her face had gone pale beneath the dirt and dried blood.
Her brows were furrowed like she was trapped in some fever dream, being tormented and barely holding on.
Sweat soaked the edges of her collar, her lips parted as if she was whispering something they couldn’t hear.
Yu Song glanced down at her in his arms, his jaw tight.
"She’s burning up."
In response, a shimmer of blue light flickered beside them. Lingquan’s glow condensed, shrinking in mid-air until he emerged in his compact feline form. Soft black fur, bright blue eyes, and a worried tail that flicked once in irritation.
The moment his paws touched the ground, he jumped lightly onto Yu Song’s shoulder, settling close to Qingran’s face, ears pinned back.
"I’ll stay with her.." Lingquan murmured, voice smaller now but still distinct in Yu Song’s mind.
She had already begun to curl slightly in his arms, unconsciously seeking warmth or comfort or maybe just trying to shield herself from pain.
"Hang in there, Qingran. Just a little longer."
The floor numbers lit up one by one.
Thirty.
Thirty-one.
Her fingers twitched faintly.
Thirty-two.
A small sound escaped her lips nothing coherent, just a whisper of breath.
Thirty-three.
Yu Song adjusted his grip slightly. Her forehead was scorching. His stomach churned at the thought.
Thirty-four.
Ding.
The doors slid open, revealing a hallway where three medical volunteers already stood waiting, alerted by Meng Nian’s message. They rushed forward with a stretcher and a kit.
"This way to room 3412."
Yu Song carried her in without hesitation, gently laying her down as they guided him to the room.
The doctor rushed to her aid and began immediate checking of her, temperature, pulse, reflexes.
While one of the nurses started prepping an IV with practiced urgency.
"Severe overexertion" the man muttered. "Dehydrated, fever climbing, early-stage infection in that leg wound."
"Will she recover?" Yu Song asked, hovering beside the bed.
"She’s strong" the doctor said. "But she needs rest. Fluids, antibiotics, cooling measures. And no more movement for at least two days."
Yu Song let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
Meng Nian stepped in, carrying a second med kit. "I brought the system-sealed ones from the cargo crate. They’re faster."
The medic raised an eyebrow but didn’t object.
As they worked, Lingquan lay curled beside Qingran’s pillow, hisnhead resting near her hand. He didn’t say a word. Just watching her face carefully, his eyes glowing faintly.
Her breathing finally started to even out.
The fever wasn’t gone yet. But it had stopped climbing.
Yu Song backed away slowly and leaned against the wall, his eyes never leaving her.
"She really scared me this time" he murmured.
"Goes to show that she’s still human, I guess she herself forgets that sometimes. Let’s go join the others and offload the materials. We can do the little we can before she wakes up."
Meng Nian said heading to the door, he had a feeling this wasn’t enough to keep Qingran down.
Two hours later, the room was dim and quiet. Darkness had finally covered the sky completely.
The IV dripped steadily, soft beeps from the monitor marked her heartbeat in a calm, rhythmic interval.
A cool cloth had been placed on her forehead, and her fever had receded enough for her complexion to regain some color.
Her breathing had deepened, it was no longer sharp or shallow but slow and steady, as if her body was finally letting itself rest.
Then, her fingers twitched slightly.
Lingquan, who had not moved from his position atop her stomach, lifted his head immediately. His ears perked up, eyes narrowing slightly.
Another twitch, then followed by a small, faint groan.
Qingran’s eyelids fluttered before slowly opening.
The ceiling above was unfamiliar.
Soft sheets beneath her. The pain had dulled to a bearable throb. Her body felt sluggish, like it was wrapped in damp cotton, but at least she could move. Kind of.
She blinked again. Something warm and heavy was on her stomach.
Her gaze drifted downward, and there he was.
Lingquan, in his cat form, fur slightly ruffled, his blue eyes watching her with that all-too-familiar calm.
[You’re awake][he said softly, his voice echoing directly into her mind.
Qingran managed a weak exhale. "Barely."
He shifted, stepping forward and gently pressing his forehead to hers.
[Don’t move too much yet] he murmured, more gentle than usual. [You gave them quote a scare back there]
"I didn’t think it would hit me that fast," she whispered, her voice hoarse.
"You’ve been pushing yourself for days," Lingquan said. "Ever since the school rescue started, you haven’t stopped once. No well balanced meals, no rest. You may be stronger than most, but you’re still flesh and blood."
Qingran let her eyes drift shut again, sighing faintly.
"I had to..."
[ I know] Lingquan interrupted. [But if you die from exhaustion, what happens to them then?]
That stilled her.
He continued, tail curling around her arm protectively. [You don’t need to do it all at once. It’s okay to trust others to carry some of the burden.]
A long pause stretched between them. Qingran’s lips parted like she wanted to argue, but even her stubbornness had its limits right now.
"...How long was I out?"
[Three hours. The fever broke half an hour ago.]
She nodded faintly, her throat dry. "Yu Song? Meng Nian?"
[They’re fine. They took the materials down to sort and distribute. Everyone’s safe. They made sure you were stabilized before they left. You collapsed right after stepping out of the car.]
"...Zhang Yi?"
Lingquan’s tail flicked. [He parked and helped unload before disappearing upstairs. I think he was rattled. You blacked out right in front of him.]
Qingran gave a tiny huff of breath that might’ve been a laugh. "Good but I doubt it was because he was rattled"
Her eyes drifted closed again, this time less from weakness, more from a need to simply rest her mind.
Lingquan nudged closer, curling up on her chest again like a warm paperweight.
[You’re not allowed to die yet, Qingran," he said gently. "Not until we’ve made this world safe enough to rest in and I’ve had my fun.]
"..."
"...I’ll try, I don’t want to die myself" she murmured.
The door opened softly, letting in a cool breeze and the faint scent of disinfectant. A nurse stepped in quietly, her hair tied in a neat bun, hands already gloved and carrying a fresh towel and a small tray.
Qingran cracked her eyes open at the sound, blinking slowly as the nurse approached.
"You’re awake," the woman said gently, setting the tray down and pulling up a chair. Her voice was low and careful, as if any sudden noise might hurt. "I was hoping you’d come around soon."
Qingran couldn’t summon the strength to reply, but she gave the faintest nod.
The nurse smiled, eyes soft. "You probably don’t remember me," she murmured as she carefully wiped Qingran’s forehead with a fresh damp cloth. "But I remember you."
Her touch was light, reverent almost, like she was handling something fragile and sacred.
"...."
"You dont have to treat me like I’m made of glass. I’ve had injuries far worst than this."
".."
Lingquan rolled his eyes [Typical]
"And I remember you. I don’t forget people that easily."
The nurse reached to take the cloth out "You could have left me there but you didn’t. I’m grateful." wring the cloth and folding it neatly before placing it across Qingran’s forehead again.
"You understood you’re weren’t choose and didn’t cause a fuss. That was admirable."
