Reborn as a Succubus: Time To Live My Best Life!-Chapter 396: Graduation Day
Melisa adjusted her graduation robes for the hundredth time, tugging at the crimson fabric that marked her as one of Syux Academy’s elite graduates.
[Nine years. Holy shit, nine years in this world and I’m actually graduating.]
The Grand Hall buzzed with anticipation. Rows of wooden benches filled with families, nobles, and Academy faculty. Melisa stood with her fellow graduates in the front section, her tail flicking nervously beneath her robes.
"Stop fidgeting," Isabella whispered beside her. "You’re making me anxious."
"You? Anxious?" Melisa raised an eyebrow. "You’ve been talking about opening your wand shop for months. This is your victory lap."
"Doesn’t mean I can’t be nervous about tripping on stage." Isabella grinned. "Though if I do, at least everyone will get a nice view up my robes."
"You’re not wearing anything under there, are you?"
"Wouldn’t you like to know~?"
Armia stood on Melisa’s other side, her posture rigid and military-straight. The white-haired darian looked like she was preparing for battle rather than a graduation ceremony. Her yellow eyes scanned the crowd with focused intensity.
"Armia. Breathe."
"I am breathing."
"No, you’re doing that thing where you forget to breathe and then take one huge breath every thirty seconds." Melisa poked her ribs. "Relax. We made it."
"I know." Armia’s jaw flexed. "It’s just... my family’s out there. Watching."
[Oh. Right. Darian family expectations and all that.]
Behind them, Raven stood with her usual stoic expression, grey eyes fixed on nothing in particular. She’d cleaned up nicely for the ceremony, her black hair actually brushed for once and her scars mostly hidden by the high collar of her robes.
"You good?" Melisa asked.
"Why wouldn’t I be?"
"I don’t know. Emotions? Feelings about completing your education?"
Raven blinked.
"I completed my education when I was twelve. As far as I’m concerned, all of this is just paperwork."
Rakia bounced up beside them, her pink and purple hair adorned with bells that jingled with each movement. She’d somehow bedazzled her graduation robes with glitter and what looked like small crystals.
"Isn’t this EXCITING?" Rakia grabbed Melisa’s arm, practically vibrating. "We’re graduates! Adults! Free to pursue our passions!"
"We’ve been adults for a while now," Isabella pointed out.
"Yes, but now it’s OFFICIAL!" Rakia kissed Melisa’s cheek, then Isabella’s, then tried for Armia who leaned back.
"Personal space, Rakia."
"Spoilsport."
Headmistress Eliana stepped up to the podium, her silver hair pulled into its characteristic tight bun. The hall fell silent immediately. The woman had that effect on people.
"Welcome, families and honored guests," Eliana’s voice carried through the hall without need for amplification magic. "Today we celebrate not just the completion of studies, but the beginning of new journeys."
Melisa’s eyes drifted to the royal box. Queen Aria sat with perfect posture, her white hair catching the light streaming through the stained glass windows. Their eyes met briefly. Aria’s expression remained neutral, regal, but Melisa caught the tiny upturn at the corner of her mouth.
[There you are.]
"Melisa Blackflame."
[Shit, that’s me.]
Melisa walked up the steps to the stage, her tail swishing behind her. The audience applauded. Some of the applause was genuine, some polite, and she definitely heard a few scattered boos from the back. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
[Can’t please everyone.]
Headmistress Eliana handed her the diploma, her blue eyes sharp.
"Congratulations, Miss Blackflame. You’ve certainly made your mark on this Academy."
"Thank you, Headmistress. I tried not to burn it down."
A ghost of a smile crossed Eliana’s face.
"Indeed. Your restraint is noted."
As Melisa returned to her seat, she caught Aria’s gaze again. This time, the Queen actually smiled.
The ceremony continued. Isabella practically skipped across the stage, winking at someone in the audience. Armia walked with military precision, accepting her diploma with a crisp nod. Raven moved like a shadow, there and gone before most people registered her presence. Rakia performed a full curtsy and blew kisses to the crowd.
[We’re really doing this. Moving on. Growing up. Gods, that’s weird to think about.]
Javir’s manor had been transformed into party central.
Banners hung from the ceiling, tables groaned under the weight of food and drinks, and someone had hired a band that was currently massacring what might have been a popular tavern song.
Melisa barely made it through the door before Hazel launched herself at her.
"MELISA! YOU DID IT! YOU GRADUATED!"
"Oof!" Melisa caught her little sister, stumbling back. "Hey, squirt. Miss me?"
"SO MUCH!" Hazel’s red eyes sparkled with excitement. "Does this mean you’re going to be a court mage now? Are you going to live in the palace? Can I visit? Will you teach me magic?"
"Breathe, Hazel. One question at a time."
"Your sister asked you four questions," Raven noted, appearing beside them like the world’s least subtle ghost.
"Thanks, Raven. Very helpful."
Margaret swept over, her massive breasts threatening to escape her dress with each movement. She pulled Melisa into a hug that was more suffocation than affection.
"My brilliant daughter! A graduate!" Margaret kissed both her cheeks. "I’m so proud!"
"Can’t... breathe..."
"Oh, sorry!" Margaret released her, beaming. "Your father’s around here somewhere. He was getting emotional earlier."
"Dad? Emotional?"
"He cried during your speech."
"There was no speech. We just got diplomas."
"He cried anyway."
Melistair appeared, looking exactly as uncomfortable in formal wear as Melisa expected. His black horns had been polished though, which was touching.
"Proud of you, Mel," he said gruffly, pulling her into a much gentler hug than her mother’s. "You’ve done good."
[Okay, now I’m getting emotional. Dammit.]
"Thanks, Dad."
Kimiko materialized behind Margaret, her hands immediately going to the older nim’s hips. Margaret didn’t even flinch.
"Our little genius!" Kimiko’s green eyes sparkled with mischief. "All grown up and ready to conquer the world. Or at least conquer some lucky ladies."
"Aunt Kimiko..."
"What? It’s true!" Kimiko’s massive cock pressed against her barely-there dress. "You’re going to have women throwing themselves at you. More than usual, I mean."
"Can we not talk about my sex life at my graduation party?"
"Why not? It’s a celebration!" Kimiko kissed Margaret’s neck, making the nim woman shiver. "We should celebrate everything about you."
The party slowly began around them.
Armia stood near the refreshments table, talking quietly with Javir. Rakia had somehow acquired a glass of wine and was regaling Melisa’s parents with an elaborate story involving hand gestures. Raven lurked near the door, watching everyone with her usual intensity.
And then Aria arrived.
The room didn’t exactly go silent, but the energy shifted. Queen Aria of Syux, dressed in elegant grey and white, moved through the crowd with practiced grace. People bowed. She acknowledged them with small nods.
Her eyes found Melisa’s across the room.
[My heart should not be doing backflips. This is undignified.]
Aria made her way over.
"Congratulations, Miss Blackflame," Aria said formally, though her grey eyes held warmth. "Your graduation is well-deserved."
"Thank you, Your Majesty." Melisa managed a respectable bow. "I appreciate you attending."
"I wouldn’t miss it." Aria’s voice dropped lower. "You’ve become quite important to Syux’s future."
[Is she talking about politics or... something else?]
Before Melisa could respond, the energy in the room shifted again. The temperature seemed to drop several degrees, and Melisa felt every hair on her body stand up.
Zephyra Vortell had arrived.
The Court Sorceress stood in the doorway wearing what could generously be called a dress. It was more like strategic strips of deep purple fabric that covered the absolute minimum required by decency laws. Her hair cascaded down her back, and her smile promised trouble.
"Well, well," Zephyra purred, her eyes landing on Melisa. "Look who’s all grown up."
[It’s been months since I’ve seen her. She looks exactly the same. Which is to say, illegal in several kingdoms.]
Zephyra glided across the room, ignoring everyone else. She stopped in front of Melisa and Aria, her smile widening.
"Your Majesty." She bowed to Aria with exaggerated deference. "Melisa. Congratulations on your graduation."
"Thank you, Zephyra."
"I actually came with a proposition." Zephyra’s eyes glittered. "Now that you’re free from Academy obligations, I thought you might enjoy some... continued education."
"I already studied under you."
"For a few weeks, years ago. Barely enough time to scratch the surface." Zephyra leaned in slightly. "I’m heading to a kitsune village for research. Come with me. It’ll be educational."
"Educational," Melisa repeated flatly.
"Very educational. All sorts of... magical techniques to explore."
[Why do I feel like she’s not talking about normal magic?]
Aria’s expression remained neutral, but Melisa noticed the slight tension in her shoulders.
"How long would this research take?" Aria asked.
"A few weeks. Maybe a month." Zephyra’s gaze never left Melisa. "Unless our star student here proves to be a faster learner than expected."
Melisa’s tail flicked. Part of her was curious. Zephyra was brilliant, if completely unhinged. Studying under her again could be valuable.
The other part of her wondered what exactly she was getting herself into.
"Can I think about it?"
"Of course!" Zephyra’s smile turned predatory. "Take your time. I’ll be leaving in three days. If you’re interested, you know where to find me."
She swept away as dramatically as she’d arrived, leaving a confused silence in her wake.
Aria looked at Melisa, one eyebrow raised.
"Are you considering it?"
"Maybe?" Melisa ran a hand through her black hair. "I mean, it could be useful. Learning from her again."
"Just remember that Zephyra’s idea of ’educational’ often involves situations most people would consider inadvisable."
"Noted."
[What the hell am I getting myself into?]
