Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family-Chapter 1041: Floodgates opened
Just outside New Sparta, an entirely new kind of automobiles were riding through the plains. Concrete mixers, cranes, bull dozers, and other kinds of construction vehicles were being used in tandem with the Shadow Orcs.
Of course, this eventually caught a lot of attention in New Sparta.
"They’re building something?" asked one of the Upper Echelon leaders.
"Yes, Master. We have currently found signs of activity a few kilometers outside New Sparta," replied the adjutant.
The idea that the Reborn company specialized in construction and transportation were slowly being disseminated.
"So tell me. Did they have talented construction workers there?"
The adjutant hesitated. "Uhhh, no master. The Rebornians are using Orcs as their main craftsmen but... they’re not as good as we think. With a cursory visual inspection, we saw that some of them couldn’t even hold a hammer correctly."
"That’s weird. After selling the automobiles, they should have enough money to hire talented craftsmen. There are plenty to be found from the Guild of Arcana.
But it doesn’t matter. We don’t have to worry about those below us. If we don’t look up, we’ll eventually get crushed by those above. Tell me about the Vanderbilts. I heard they’re doing the same thing?"
The adjutant nodded.
"Then allocate all of our resources on them, the Upper Echelon leader ordered.
"Master? I do not think it is wise to do so. We do not want to anger the Conglomerates more, especially after our failed ambush."
"I know. But we have no choice. Do you know why the Vanderbilts are suddenly so interested in building their own castles in New Sparta?"
The adjutant didn’t know.
"It’s because of an internal discussion being made amongst the leaders of the Beastfolks. I’ve heard rumors. Rumors that, if true, will change the whole market of New Sparta.
The Beastfolks are planning to let humans inside New Sparta."
This was a tremendous shock to the adjutant.
This was information that was truly only reserved for the very top of the food chain.
Only a very select few could establish their territories in New Sparta. That was the rule. That was the reason why there were a lot of people camping outside its walls. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
But once the bridges are drawn and the humans are allowed to inhabit inside, then there would be a tremendous boost in activity.
And with that activity, came rest. They needed their own territory to become their safe place.
This meant that all things construction would get a huge boost in demand.
"Check in on the Vanderbilts. They’re the ones I’m most anxious about. The Vanderbilt guy is one of the competent ones among Yze’s kids."
The Conglomerates were truly a fearsome group. Their endless resources allowed them to basically bully anyone in their path, thereby swallowing up the majority of the market share.
Case in point, the Vanderbilts have shown their unique architecture that showed the grandness and eliteness of their company.
Many of the Upper Echelons who spied on the Vanderbilts saw them use high-level magicians and Maugnetics to furnish their new and under-construction castle.
Not only that, but the materials they used were way too expensive to be even called lavish. It was the equivalent of using diamonds as floor tiles. In fact, their private ball room was entirely made out of gems and beautiful rocks.
"Master!"
Just as the Upper Echelon leader was discussing their findings on the Vanderbilt spying mission, he was suddenly interrupted by another spy who had just arrived.
"The Reborn company has built something!"
The Upper Echelon ignored the spy and looked back at the paperwork in his hand. "I know about their construction project."
"No, Master. I’m saying that they’ve already built it."
The leader suddenly stopped what he was doing and looked at his spy. "What do you mean they’ve built it? They’ve just started this morning."
The spy fervently nodded his head. "Yes, Master. We detected their construction work early this morning. We only saw a giant ditch in the ground at that point.
And as you instructed us, we left their vicinity and went to spy on the Vanderbilts instead.
But after we were done with that, we went back to the Reborn company. And lo and behold, we saw a giant rectangular structure blocking the sunset!"
The spy walked over to his leader and handed out a sketch of the supposed structure.
And as soon as the leader saw it, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
The building was practically a hill at this point. It towered over the trees and was as large as a castle itself.
Even if the building was empty on the inside, the fact that they could build such a large rectangular structure was still unbelievable!
"HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!
...
...
...
Gabriel and his father listened to the report of their informant with awe and shock written on their faces.
"They used... what now?"
"Concrete," replied their informant. "It is an entirely new kind of liquid that can be poured into a mould. And once it hardens, it will become as hard as stone."
Gabriel’s father frowned. "How long?"
The informant gulped. "Half a day."
Within a single day, the Reborn was able to build a structure equivalent to a castle using this thing called ’concrete’.
"And sir," said the informant. "We have just figured out that this was not their first use of concrete. We have traced it back to Metropolis.
It seems that the Metropolitan territory has undergone a major renovation. The roads, the structure, the buildings. Everything there was made out of concrete."
With the advent of the automobiles, it wasn’t just materials and delivery that was sped up. Information gathering became a lot easier as well.
Instead of a month’s long trip to Metropolis, the automobile could traverse that within a single day.
And finally, the Conglomerates and the Upper echelons were awoken to the fact that the Reborn company was not as ’unknown’ as they originally thought.
Metropolis, considered to be the top territory in the Lower Queens region, was practically drowning in Reborn logos.
"And that’s not all, sir. They have systems in which ordinary citizens could have access to clean water with a single twist of metal..."
Gabriel couldn’t help but gasp in shock as he heard their informant talk about such a luxurious thing. Even poor citizens could take a bath in their own homes?
"How is that possible?" he asked.
"We have yet to understand its full mechanism, but we have learned of its name. It was called the plumbing and sewer system.
And that wasn’t all. Here is an itemized list of all the interesting things we have discovered in Metropolis," said the informant as he handed Gabriel a piece of parchment paper.
Gabriel’s eyes flashed with awe as he read the contents of the paper.
Railways. Bicycles. Electricity. Refrigerators. Air Conditioners. These were all terms that were unfamiliar to him. However, these descriptions seemed very much fantastical. What do you mean that a magic-less constructs could spew cold air so much that water began to turn to ice?
In contrast to his fascination, Gabriel’s father frowned more and more as he learned about the Reborn company.
They kept coming up with invention after invention. And each of them were revolutionizing the entire market.
"We... we should have known about this sooner," Gabriel’s father said. "What did you find out about Reborn in Metropolis?"
The informant shook his head awkwardly. "None, sir."
"None? What do you mean? I thought you said that the entire territory was filled with Reborn products? There must be a lot of information about them. Have you asked the news stations?"
"They have none, sir. When we pressed them about the Reborn company, they had nothing to say except that they came out of the blue and dominated the market. There was also nothing about their leader, Michael."
Gabriel’s father couldn’t help but smell a conspiracy cooking in the shadows. It seemed that Metropolis and the Reborn company were hiding a lot more than what they were showing.
"You said that there’s a railway that connects all the way to the Kings region, correct?"
The informant nodded. "We still doubt its veracity, but it seems that the citizens there attest to its ability."
"Go find out for yourself. Ride it all the way to the supposed desolate desert of the Parched Lands. Tell me everything you can about the Reborn company. Spare no detail. I want to know how they’re doing all of these things. Go!"
The informant nodded before disappearing into a blur.
Gabriel turned to his father. "Isn’t this great, father? The Reborn company seems to be much more successful than we thought!"
But in contrast to what he thought, his father was still in deep thought.
After all, success in this world wasn’t just dependent on wealth and influence. You’ll need strength too.
If other sharks saw a helpless, fat, and scrumptious whale in the sea, they wouldn’t hesitate before taking a bite.
Reborn’s incredible wealth of inventions could paint them as a formidable foe... or a pile of gold waiting to be swallowed.
