Reborn as the Third Prince: To Build and Conquer my way to Royalty.-Chapter 73: A plea for a prince, or a saviour.
Chapter 73: A plea for a prince, or a saviour.
Before Sylus stepped out of the house, he decided to hand the summons over to Zani’s mother in the meantime.
Of course, their reaction was just as he expected.
Zani was speechless, while her mother was frightened just holding the monster.
"Wh-what is this, Your Highness..." her mother asked, her hands stretched forward even though she was holding Fabi.
Sylus replied, "Well, her name is Fabi. Don’t be alarmed; she is a very good friend of mine. While your daughter and I are still working to rid the city of the Red Viper, she will be here to protect you."
Zani raised a brow, fairly sure that Sylus never mentioned any of this to her.
"Protect me? —Wait, Your Highness wants to... fight the Red Vipers?" Too many questions swarmed the poor woman’s mind.
Quite frankly, other than the fact she was holding a creature she had never heard about, she also knew how dangerous the Red Viper group could be.
The fact they have been tormenting the city for many years already permanently left a lasting impression on not just her, but everyone who was a victim of them as well.
Even if the king came and made the very same claim, she would still be anxious about it.
But for some reason, in just a day, she had grown fond of Sylus; she didn’t want anything bad to happen to him.
With her eyes bubbling up, she uttered,
"Your Highness, there is no reason for you to worry about us in the Lower City; we already understand how to survive. Please return back to the capital; it’s safer there. I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if anything were to happen to you."
Having heard her worries, Sylus simply smiled, and then, with a single movement, he hugged her.
"I find it comforting that you worry about me so; it truly makes me happy. But as a prince and a master, this is my duty. I assure you, I won’t be losing to cowards, not on my own land. Also, you should be proud. When I succeed, your daughter will become queen. This is a good opportunity to make this place better."
Zani’s mother was sure she heard that right; as she turned her gaze toward her daughter, she could see the conviction etched on her face.
It was obvious Zani wanted to do this as well, to have her revenge on the people who caused her suffering for so long.
For a moment there, she wanted to cry, but she quickly held herself back.
"Hmm!" she nodded her head. "I pray you come back victorious, Your Highness."
With that, Sylus pulled away from the hug, cupped the woman’s cheeks, and kissed her on the forehead.
"I’ll come visit soon, I promise."
The woman’s cheeks were flushed after that, her head steaming as she began to lose balance on her footing.
’Eh? Was that too much?’
"L-let’s go..."
Zani captured Sylus by the hand and dragged him out of the house.
Leaving her mother, who was now on her knees, her hand covering her face.
"Why does the prince make me feel like a little girl again...?" she looked at the door. "Perhaps I should have given birth to a male as well."
Fabi leaped down from her hand and then formed a hand it used to pet her head.
She turned her sights to it.
"This... is going to take a while to get used to."
Meanwhile, outside the house, Sylus and Zani were already walking through the narrow alleyway.
Since Sylus no longer had his mask on, people who saw him immediately recognized him as the third prince of Verdenez.
Those who were lucky enough to see him began shedding tears, begging him to save them.
Some were even brave enough to leave their houses and stand at the entrance of the alley, chanting...
"Hail the third prince!"
Continuously, as a way to grab his attention.
While others fell to their knees, some reached out, wishing the prince would touch them or at least make contact.
Of course, if he could stay, he would, but right then, he needed to act swiftly.
So all he could do was wave at them while Zani pulled him along.
After they got to the back of the house, Sylus could see his bird summon, Aria, lying on the floor, eating a dead lizard.
"Oh, I forgot you had him with you," Sylus said with a smile, petting its head.
Aria, happy to see his master after so long, let out a low growl as it rubbed its head on Sylus.
"I did; we need to get a move on. I noticed a lot of the locals were hiding inside their homes. This only happens when there is an uproar with the Red Viper."
Sylus replied, "I would guess so; they must have found out their gang leader is dead, and now they are throwing a fit, trying to find out who did it."
"You killed the leader, my lord?" Zani questioned.
"Needed to get their attention somehow." He looked at her. "I know you are not as well known as I am, but surely people knew you were my Mystero, no? How come they never came to you for help?"
Zani took a while before she said anything.
"They did. I could only give them empty promises. I can’t act without your permission."
Sylus laughed out loud.
"Typical Zani response."
She felt instantly ashamed.
"Alright, now that I got that checked, let’s head to the mansion. Hehe, this should be fun."
With a single step, Sylus hopped on Aria’s back and then stretched his hand for Zani.
"Let’s go."
Zani grabbed his hand, allowing herself to be pulled up right behind him.
She was about to fall, but Sylus grabbed her hand, dragging her back into balance.
He then proceeded to wrap her arm around his waist.
"Hold on tight. We don’t want you falling."
Something so simple was likely more difficult for Zani.
To hold her prince in such an indecent manner—she would rather kill herself and be tormented for millions of years.
However that thought slipped away when Aria finally took to the sky.
