Reborn as the Third Prince: To Build and Conquer my way to Royalty.-Chapter 80: A worthwhile death.
Chapter 80: A worthwhile death.
’Kidding~
The grin grew wide on Ashen’s face.
As Kang swiped his arm through the air, sending multiple slices towards Sophia—who was healing faster than the damage she was receiving—he was also trying to dodge her man-eating mist.
Of course, he was unable to dodge them all. As expected, there were parts of his body that the mist made contact with. And just as one would think, it was eating away at his skin.
Still, Kang didn’t stop advancing forward. To him, he could keep generating more mana from his magic circuit, and that should slow down the effect of the mist.
In order to win, he only needed to get close to the prince and use him as a hostage against the devil attacking him.
Surely the monster would think twice if its master’s life was on the line.
Somehow, Kang was doing just fine, dodging all of Sophia’s attacks with his quick reactions and fast steps.
Hell, even Sylus was a bit impressed.
Kang was making sure to keep a far enough distance away from Sophia while trying to get all the way behind Sylus.
And it seemed to be working as well; just a few more moments and Kang would have them both blindsided.
That said, Sylus had already anticipated something like this happening.
He opened his wrist, summoning his dagger. The moment he grabbed the hilt of the blade, he charged forward, hastily closing the distance.
Suddenly seeing Sylus in front of him left Kang in shock and motionless.
Until now, he had assumed the prince was probably average and only got this far with the help of the devil standing behind him.
But for him to move this fast, with such a degrading look on his face...
"What in the hell are you?!"
Kang yelled, regaining control over his body, as he immediately tried to leap out of the way to avoid getting stabbed.
However, he was a second too late.
Sylus’s blade had already pierced his guts before he could leap back.
As his body soared through the air, his blood dripped to the ground, the green poison already entering his body and spreading all the way inside.
Landing on his feet, he fell on one knee, using his hand to block the stab wound in order not to lose more blood.
"Shit..."
Kang soon realized the poison was spreading fast inside him, and there was little he could do about it.
Not while his opponent was still standing.
Gesturing with his hand, he was ready to launch another attack at Sylus when he suddenly felt something pierce him from behind, the dark material bursting out of his chest for him to see.
His blood began to drip even more when he discovered that the mist had solidified into a weapon that was now halfway through his chest.
"No... way..."
Kang remained there, unable to move from the constant bloodlust. His face had turned pale, and his veins were pulsing green. Just one look at him was all it would take to understand he would most likely not survive.
Slowly, Sylus approached him and then placed one hand on the dying man’s head, Sophia towering behind him.
"K..ill me..." the man looked up at Sylus. "If you th..ink I am going to beg, then you... are sorely mistaken."
Sylus sighed, "Yeah, you’re right. I was hoping for that." He continued, "You have a keen mind to lead; it takes a rare kind of authority to build the following you have, and yet, you use that power to oppress the wrong people. Nothing pains me more than seeing the wrong people gifted with talent."
Kang gave a weak laugh. "What is this? Are you planning... on lecturing me to death instead?"
"Didn’t work?"
"..."
"Sigh, a waste..."
With that, Sylus placed the dagger at the side of Kang’s neck and then, with a single pressure, slit his head off his neck.
The man’s head rolled to the ground, green blood spurting out before the headless body fell to the side after the mist disappeared.
Sylus stared at the corpse for a while.
’I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a waste. If only he had a good heart, he had the potential to be quite the leader.’
Suddenly, a bright light glowed behind him.
Sylus quickly turned around to check, and to his surprise, he found Sophia standing there, staring directly at him with mana surging around her.
[The character Sophia has undergone evolution.]
’What? Again?’
Looking at her, he could not find anything different, other than the fact that her intimidating dark mist was no longer constantly leaking from her.
"Master, it would seem I have gotten stronger than I was a few moments ago," Sophia uttered as she checked herself out.
"You think so?"
"From what I can understand, I am able to exit freely, separate from you, for a limited amount of time before needing a reveal. I find it to be rather helpful, as such—stronger."
Sylus knew she was connected to him via the mist, but he only thought she was doing it on purpose.
There were often times he would feel his mana getting drained in huge amounts; at least now he understood why.
"I see. Anyway, let’s head back to the group. I need to be sure the mission went as planned and there were no casualties."
Just as he attempted to take a step forward, Sophia did the same, only she hugged him as tightly as she could, her arms wrapping gently around him.
"O-oi!" Sylus was instantly flustered; there was no way he’d be calm after being hugged like that.
Especially since Sophia’s chest was pressing against him.
"What are you doing?"
While hugging him, Sophia began sniffing his body. "You really do smell nice, Master. Every other person I have seen so far smells like rotten corpses, but you... this is calming. Please let me stay like this for a while."
She moved even closer, her soft pink lips rubbing on his chest.
Before Sylus could give a response, Zani walked in.
