Reborn: Earth Online-Chapter 86 - 87: Power leveling
"Okay." Kaden nodded. "Take your turn and see what you get." He signaled for the man to touch the core and stepped away. A ripple of murmurs spread through the crowd.
The man took a deep breath and approached the floating core. His hands trembled as he reached out and gently touched its surface. In that instant, a warm surge of energy pulsed through him, and his eyes widened in astonishment as a new system interface popped up.
"I changed! It allowed me to switch classes! I can build houses now, and I also have an attack skill. This is amazing!"
The man then turned toward Kaden. "I am Timothy. Thank you. Thank you so much for giving me this chance. I will start building houses immediately. You will not be disappointed. All of us will have houses soon, a place to live like before!"
A buzz of astonishment passed through the crowd. Some people exchanged glances, their expressions lighting up with hope.
Kaden smiled. "That’s the power of the catalyst," he said softly. "Each one of you has the chance to redefine your future. Make good decisions because this is the last chance you will get. There will be no more do-overs."
"Non-combat classes can also level up and become stronger, so if you do not prefer direct combat, don’t hesitate to pick something else. Good luck, everyone." He quickly spoke and walked away.
Niera glanced at the others and ran behind him. "Umm… don’t you want to say anything more? Many still look confused. Would it be better if you stood with them and helped them choose something?"
Kaden scratched his head. "Ughhh. This is why you are here. Besides, it’s not like I can hold their hands and pick for them. They need to figure this out themselves."
Niera could only watch helplessly as Kaden once again disappeared. What was he doing, she wondered. She did not have to wonder for long when he returned with a few more beast corpses.
She looked at him dumbfoundedly. Or, more specifically, she looked at the beast hide that now covered his body. He had worn it like a towel. "Did anyone pick a tailoring profession yet?"
"No, I haven’t seen anyone pick that out yet." Niera shook her head.
"Well, in case of situations like this, you are free to authorize extra rewards for anyone choosing that profession. You should promise them bonus coins or something."
"Coins?"
"Ya, soon we will have coins and a shop. A lot is going to change."
Kaden did not want to stand around and explain everything. He had very little time, and he needed this to go faster. "Alright, send people with me. Any combat profession is fine."
Niera nodded and quickly ran back to the gathering. After a few minutes, she returned with ten hesitant looking men and women: 6 men and four women.
"Follow me. I am going to help you all level up a little."
The group looked perplexed. Niera looked shocked. They had thought that he was asking for more manpower for something like cutting the meat or cooking, but this was unbelievable.
At first, everyone seemed reluctant—some even started to cough and complain of flu-like symptoms—but then everything changed when the group encountered their first wild wolf. The creature emerged from the underbrush, its eyes glinting in the fading light, and a low growl emanated from deep within its throat.
Before anyone could react, Kaden acted. In a swift motion, he invoked Nature’s Grasp, and thick, twisting vines erupted from the forest floor, ensnaring the wolf and pinning it to the ground. The beast struggled and snarled, but the vines held it fast.
"Alright, listen up!" Kaden barked, his voice echoing over the hushed crowd. "I need one of you to finish this off. Step forward and take care of it."
For a tense moment, the survivors exchanged hesitant glances. Then, one of the younger men stepped forward. He was around Kaden’s age. "I am Joseph. I’ll do it," he said, his voice wavering but resolute.
Kaden nodded approvingly. "Good. Now, move in carefully and make sure you do it cleanly," he instructed. Joseph crept toward the restrained wolf, gripping a knife that he had with him before getting here.
With a deep breath, he lunged and started stabbing the wolf madly. The wolf let out one final, pained howl before going limp, its struggle finally over. "I leveled up!" Joseph exclaimed in shock.
"Good. This is what we will be doing for the rest of the day. Are you all up for it?"
The group nodded in unison—if not eagerly, then at least without protest—each of them silently cursing their own hesitance and regret for nearly missing out on an opportunity to level up. Joseph, still flushed with adrenaline, puffed out his chest. "I am ready, Sir."
"Alright," Kaden continued, "we’re going to work on our combat skills. Every one of you will get a chance to practice and gain experience. The better you get, the more you can protect yourselves in this new world."

"Is everyone ready? We are walking into a wolf pack territory. Be alert and aware." Though Kaden warned, there was no real danger as he immediately started trapping all the wolves one after the other the moment the beasts showed up.
In the blink of an eye, the entire wolf pack was finished, and five out of ten had leveled up. "It’s faster now, but we need more speed." Kaden clicked his tongue and opened his system map. This was his first settlement location in his last life as well, so he knew a few places around the camp.
"Let’s go to the snake pit. Yup, that should do the trick."
The words "snake pit" hung in the air, and a murmur of uncertainty rippled through the group. Some of the survivors exchanged uneasy glances, their faces etched with worry and hesitation. But Kaden wasn’t interested in their doubts—he was focused on one thing: getting these people to level 15 by the end of the day.
"Listen up!" Kaden barked, his voice cutting through the murmurs. "We’re moving to the snake pit for further training. Those who choose combat skills need to get faster, more agile, and more precise. This is your chance to push yourselves. Follow me, and don’t slow down!"
