Chapter 147: Chapter 63: Snatching Jing 7’s Room

"Wan’er!" Hearing her daughter’s cry for help, Aunt Zhang immediately rushed into Jing Qi’s room.

Jie Jingchen and Qin Mei exchanged a glance and followed close behind. They were in no hurry. The one crying for help wasn’t Jing Qi. Qin Mei had experienced firsthand just how destructive Jing Qi could be. ’If someone’s stupid enough to provoke her, they deserve what’s coming to them!’

"Mom, Jing Qi is trying to kill me!" Hu Wan’er sobbed. "Mom, I’m so scared! Mom, save me!" The moment she saw Aunt Zhang, she threw herself into her arms for comfort.

"Wan’er, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. Jing Qi is just playing around with you," Aunt Zhang soothed. With Jie Jingchen present, it wasn’t a good time for her to discipline Jing Qi.

"Mom, she has a dagger." Hu Wan’er trembled. No matter how she had provoked or mocked her, Jie Jingshan had simply ignored her. When she finally managed to get a reaction, Jie Jingshan had roared twice and pulled out a dagger. Hu Wan’er was genuinely terrified. ’How could Jie Jingshan have a dagger?’

Hearing the word "dagger," Aunt Zhang shuddered. She looked at Jie Jingshan and saw her gripping the dagger with both hands, her expression ferocious. Aunt Zhang was frightened too.

Jie Jingshan had truly changed a great deal. Her old self had a volatile temper laced with insecurity; it was easy for her to fly into a rage when provoked. The Jie Jingshan of this moment was an upgraded version of that volatility: ferocious, but without the insecurity, and with a hint of rationality amidst her murderous aura.

"Jing Qi, you can’t play with daggers. You’ll hurt yourself. Be a good girl, listen to me, and give the dagger to me," Aunt Zhang said to Jie Jingshan in a gentle voice, suppressing the fear in her heart.

Aunt Zhang gritted her teeth, steeled her resolve, and reached out toward Jie Jingshan.

Jie Jingshan swung the hand holding the dagger. Startled, Aunt Zhang snatched her hand back and stared at Jing Qi in disbelief. "Jing Qi, it’s me, Aunt Zhang! The one who takes care of you, who cleans up your filth! Are you going to hurt even me?"

Hearing this, Qin Mei rolled her eyes. ’First she guilt-trips Jie Jingchen, and now she’s guilt-tripping Jie Jingshan.’

Fear rose in Jie Jingshan’s heart as she looked at Aunt Zhang. She turned and shot Qin Mei a pleading look.

Qin Mei decided not to be a bystander any longer. She pushed past Jie Jingchen, strode into the room, and crouched in front of Jie Jingshan, pointing to the dagger in her hands.

"Jing Qi, your Fourth Brother gave you this dagger not to hurt people, but to defend yourself." Qin Mei paused. Then, under Jie Jingshan’s stunned gaze, she raised a hand in front of everyone and drew her index finger across Jie Jingshan’s neck. "Jing Qi, if anyone bullies you, you use this dagger and slit her throat. Remember, it must be a single, fatal blow. You can’t give her any chance to fight back and hurt you."

Jie Jingshan froze. Aunt Zhang and Hu Wan’er were frozen in place as well. A glimmer flickered in Jie Jingchen’s eyes, but he simply pursed his lips and said nothing.

"Jing Qi, do you remember what I told you?" Qin Mei asked with a smile.

"I remember," Jie Jingshan nodded blankly.

Qin Mei shot Aunt Zhang a cold glare, then turned back to Jie Jingshan with a smile. "If you remember, then put the dagger away. Mrs. Zhang was right about one thing: you can’t just play with a dagger, or you might hurt yourself."

"Okay." Jie Jingshan listened to Qin Mei and put the dagger away.

’She called me Mrs. Zhang again!’ Aunt Zhang was furious. "Fourth Wife of Jing, Jing Qi is still just a child! How can you incite her to murder? That’s a crime! It could mean prison time or even execution!"

Facing Aunt Zhang’s accusation, Qin Mei let out a cold laugh. "Mrs. Zhang, what an accusation. I didn’t incite her to murder. We’re law-abiding citizens; how could we do something criminal? The dagger is for Jing Qi’s self-defense. You know what her situation is. If she doesn’t take her attacker out with a single, fatal blow, she’ll be the one who ends up dead."

Aunt Zhang didn’t retort, her gaze on Qin Mei turning sharp. Hu Wan’er breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Jing Qi put the dagger away. She pulled out of Aunt Zhang’s embrace, and out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Jie Jingchen by the door. Her own eyes lit up. ’Mom was right, Jing Si really is handsome. He’s just my type.’

’Jing Wu is handsome too, and I like him, but he gives off too much of a playboy vibe. A man like that is only good for dating, not for marriage. Jing Si is different. He exudes an air of noble pride, especially with those wise, clear, amber eyes.’

’Devilishy handsome, with a noble charm. He makes my heart pound, fills me with passion.’

"Mom, I feel dizzy." Hu Wan’er staggered backward, timing her steps perfectly before closing her eyes, preparing to fall into Jie Jingchen’s arms.

Instead of the warm embrace she expected, Hu Wan’er fell backward, landing hard on the floor. The back of her head hit the ground, and she let out a piercing shriek.

"AHH!"

Watching this unfold, Qin Mei instantly understood. Hu Wan’er had an ulterior motive. Her goal wasn’t to take the room from Jing Qi—her real target was Jie Jingchen.
