Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man-Chapter 148 - 63: Snatching Jing 7’s Room (2)
’Let your guard down for one second, and she’s seducing your man right in front of you.’
When Jie Jingchen saw Hu Wan’er fall toward him, he moved aside without a second thought, coldly watching as she tumbled to the ground.
Hu Wan’er’s intentions were so obvious that he was filled with disgust and repulsion.
"Wan’er." Aunt Zhang rushed to help Hu Wan’er up, her eyes filled with heartache and worry. "Wan’er, are you hurt?"
"Mom." Hu Wan’er shot Jie Jingchen a resentful glare before throwing herself into Aunt Zhang’s arms, crying pitifully.
"Wan’er, don’t cry. Tell me, where are you hurt?" Aunt Zhang asked urgently. Hu Wan’er remained silent, only continuing to weep pitifully. Aunt Zhang instantly understood—she wasn’t actually hurt. She let out a sigh of relief, then turned to Jie Jingchen, her expression souring. "Jing Si, Wan’er is my daughter, which makes her your cousin. She was so frightened by Jing Qi that she grew dizzy, yet you just stood there and watched her fall without helping. How could you be so cold?"
"My apologies. I’m averse to physical contact with women," Jie Jingchen said, though his eyes held no trace of apology. He flicked his sleeve with his finger as if brushing off some filth, his expression filled with disdain.
Hearing Jie Jingchen’s words, Qin Mei couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter.
"Mom!" Hu Wan’er stomped her foot in frustration.
Aunt Zhang was no pushover, either. "Jing Si, I seem to recall you and Teacher Lin..."
"Aunt Zhang." Jie Jingchen’s voice was ice as it escaped his throat. His glacial eyes were steeped in frost, looking as if they could freeze Aunt Zhang into an ice sculpture.
This side of Jie Jingchen frightened Aunt Zhang. She swallowed hard and quickly changed her tune. "You weren’t so averse before you got married."
"I became averse after I got married. What, does Aunt Zhang have a problem with that?" His deep voice carried a sinister chill. Jie Jingchen shot Aunt Zhang a cold glare before his eyes landed on Qin Mei.
Qin Mei was a little surprised. ’Xu Chunyan was always using his relationship with Teacher Lin to provoke me, and Jie Jingchen would just ignore it. What’s different today? The moment Aunt Zhang brought up him and Teacher Lin, he cut her off so sharply.’
Qin Mei didn’t know that Jie Jingchen had ignored it before simply because he didn’t care. He had let Xu Chunyan spread whatever rumors she wanted. But now, he did care, and he absolutely would not allow Aunt Zhang to spout nonsense in front of him.
"Mom, I’m dizzy and my whole body aches. I want to go to sleep," Hu Wan’er whined, tugging at the front of Aunt Zhang’s shirt.
"I’ll help you to bed so you can rest." Aunt Zhang supported Hu Wan’er as she turned and headed for Jing Qi’s bed.
Aunt Zhang’s intentions were painfully obvious, especially with their luggage sitting on the floor. The sight was an eyesore to Qin Mei.
Qin Mei rose to her feet, took a dagger from Jie Jingshan’s hand, and swiftly moved to block their path. Right in front of them, she unsheathed the dagger and began to gently stroke the blade with her fingertip.
"And just where are you taking her?" Qin Mei asked coldly.
"Wan’er is tired. She needs to rest," Aunt Zhang said through gritted teeth, her expression strained with forbearance.
Qin Mei’s gaze sharpened, and she let out a mocking laugh. "Mrs. Zhang, this room is Jing Qi’s. This bed is Jing Qi’s. Do you really think it’s appropriate for your daughter to sleep in it?"
"They’re both girls, so what’s wrong with them sharing a bed? Besides, Jing Qi is disabled. I’m arranging for Wan’er to stay in the same room to make it easier to take care of her. When your mother-in-law, Mrs. Xie, gets back and sees how I’ve arranged things, she won’t have any objections either." Aunt Zhang brought up Mrs. Xie. The relationship between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is notoriously difficult; for a daughter-in-law, seeing her mother-in-law is like a mouse seeing a cat—the fear feels almost innate.
"Jing Qi is only fourteen years old. She’s just a girl. As for your daughter..." Qin Mei looked Hu Wan’er up and down. She wasn’t a devastating beauty, but she was certainly pretty. Her skin was fair, showing no signs of having been weathered by the wind and sun; she had clearly been coddled back in the countryside.
’But Hu Wan’er had to be over twenty. People in the countryside marry young. For her to be over twenty and still unmarried... the hidden reasons for that were self-evident.’
"Your kid should be in kindergarten by now, shouldn’t they?"
"Fourth Wife of Jing, what nonsense are you spouting? My daughter isn’t even engaged yet! How dare you slander her reputation like this? What kind of venomous thoughts are you harboring?" Aunt Zhang demanded, her anger boiling over.
Qin Mei put on a look of utter shock and bewilderment. "Not even engaged? For real? Your daughter looks like she’s at least thirty, don’t you think? Thirty and not even engaged... does she have some sort of hidden illness? I mean, your daughter isn’t bad-looking. Reasonably, with her looks, matchmakers from all the surrounding villages should have worn out your welcome mat trying to arrange a marriage by now. Don’t tell me... she’s barren? People in the countryside are more traditional. They marry a wife to carry on the family line. Even if your daughter were a goddess descended from the heavens, being unable to bear children would make anyone think twice. I get it, I get it."
"You..." Hu Wan’er was about to explode on the spot but was stopped by Aunt Zhang.
