Chapter 32: IT’S AVA!

12:00 AM.

At exactly midnight, Ava’s alarm rang subtly, and she stretched to turn it off from the position she sat on her bed, wincing slightly from the pain on her ribs. Her eyes were wide awake. She couldn’t sleep. Not with the anger that boiled in her veins from everything that happened earlier that played in her head over and over again.

Things were changing, Ava admitted to herself, but she would never let Sasha or her family members bully her in this life anymore.

Pushing herself away from headboard, she slowly slid her feet into her fluffy pink slippers. Ava walked to her drawer and pulled out an electric clipper before walking out of her room. This was the first time she was leaving her room after her fight with Sasha which ended badly for her.

She didn’t even leave her room for dinner. Fortunately, her grandfather had been so concerned that he’d asked a maid to serve her dinner to her room when she didn’t show up. He probably wasn’t aware of what happened, and Ava wanted to keep it that way.

Taking another turn away from her hallway, she stopped in front of a door. Without knocking on it, Ava opened the door slowly and walked into it. The room was dark, and the only light came from the one outside the hallway that faded the moment she closed the door.

The soft snore that came from Sasha who laid asleep on the bed made Ava smile. Just like she’d predicted, the little wench was deep in slumber, so unaware of whatever was happening around her.

Carefully, not wanting to make a sound, Ava walked to Sasha’s bedside. Her hands tightened on the clipper as she tried to control her anger, but all she could see was the shredded clothes Evelyn bought for her, and the scattered pieces of jewelries.

Turning on the clipper, Ava made sure Sasha didn’t wake up from the sound of the clipper. The first pass of the clipper from the middle of her front hair, to the center, had Ava grinning at the sight. A soft hum followed as a patch of her hair fell to her pillow. She slid it two more times to make sure there was no more hair left on her scalp, before she carefully took her leave. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

As she pressed herself on the door, she could barely stop herself from grinning, but when she remembered the injury Noah inflicted on her, her smile faded. She walked away from Sasha’s door and headed for Noah’s room.

The door to Noah’s room creaked softly as it opened wide. Since Noah had night blindness, the light in his room was always turned on. Ava’s heart skipped a beat when she saw him sitting on his desk with his head resting on his palm.

She was afraid that he was awake, but when she heard him snoring lightly, Ava’s lips curled into a smile as she realized Noah had fallen asleep at his desk. His face looked so peaceful, and his brow was relaxed. No one would ever believe someone like this was a heartless woman beater. Her elbow throbbed, and she flinched at the pain.

Ava tiptoes closer, and her fluffy slippers muffled her steps. Standing beside him, Ava leaned in slightly as her eyes scanned his desk. He had fallen asleep, drafting contracts for one of the company’s projects.

She read the headline of one of the papers, "Strategic expansion proposal for Whitlock’s Enterprise." Without hesitation, she opened it, flipping through the pages filled with schedules, meetings, and personal notes.

"07:00 AM: Meeting with the board.

08:00 AM: Conference call with investors."

An idea came into her head, and the irony of what she was about to do, made her chuckle softly under her breath. She quickly packed up the papers from his desk. As she pulled one of the papers left from under his elbow, Noah stirred, shifting slightly, but he didn’t wake up. Ava froze, holding her breath, but when he started snoring softly again, she tiptoed away from him.

Walking into his bathroom, Ava quietly filled his tub with water, before she carefully placed each paper into the water. Ava watched as the paper soaked the water with a smile.

Satisfied, she left his room and closed the door behind her. Ava moaned slightly as she slipped into her bed. She looked at the clock beside her bed which read 12:45 AM. It took exactly forty five minutes to exact her revenge, but she was happy as she finally closed her eyes to sleep.

.

The loud scream that came from Sasha’s room woke every member of the household. If this was any other day, Ava might have groaned, rolled over, and shoved a pillow over her ears to block out the noise. But today? Today was different.

Alone in her room, she burst into uncontrollable laughter. She laughed so hard that tears streaked down her cheeks. Feeling the slight ache from her ribs from excessive laughter, she clutched her side, and moaned quietly. Still, the pain did not ruin her good mood.

For the first time in her life, she was excited as she climbed down the stairs, wiping away the tears that wouldn’t stop falling. Ava stopped at the foot of the stairs when she noticed her entire family members had gathered in the living room, all except her grandfather.

Forty-four workers, maids and staffs, lined up in front of Jerome and Caspian who was interrogating them sternly. Gaulin, Matilda, and Noah stood protectively beside Sasha who cried loudly as they tried to console her. Sasha’s cry was like music to Ava’s ears.

Ava smiled as she limped further into the living room. She had promised herself she wouldn’t laugh and would only stand and watch innocently. But the moment her eyes landed on Sasha with her smooth scalp that gleamed in the middle, and was surrounded by jagged tuffs of hair, it was over.

Ava laughed so hard that she doubled over, clutching her stomach. Tears ran down her cheeks.

Every pair of eyes turned to her, including Jerome and Caspian who stopped interrogating the staffs. Matilda’s mouth opened in shock, while Gaulin frowned at her behavior. Noah too went speechless as he stared at Ava with suspicion.

Looking at Ava laugh at her like that, Sasha stopped crying. "It was you! It’s Ava! She did this to me!"
