Chapter 33: WHY IS HE HERE?

Ava’s laughter died instantly, after Sasha’s little spasms. She wiped the tears of amusement from her cheeks, before her eyes finally landed on Sasha. "What did you say? Are you accusing me right now?" Ava asked softly.

Sasha turned on her like an animal, pointing an accusing finger at her. "Don’t you dare act innocent! I know you did this, Ava! After what happened yesterday, you said I wouldn’t get away with it. This has your handprints written all over!"

Ava laughed once more. "Have you finally lost your mind, Sasha? What prove do you have that I did this?"

Gaulin stared at the two girls confused. "What happened yesterday?" He asked conflicted, taking turns to stare at Ava, and Sasha, but his attention shifted to Matilda when she spoke.

"Sasha and I went to a mall yesterday, but we ran into Ava and a stranger who publicly embarrassed us ."

Gaulin’s face tightened. "Ava embarrassed you and Sasha?!" He turned to Ava who stared at them nonchalantly. "When did this nonsense start, Ava?! How dare you embarrass your mother and sister in public?!"

Sasha sniffled. "She also denied our existence to the strange woman, calling us a stranger."

"Was this after the fight?" Noah asked curiously.

"What fight?" Jerome inquired, surprised by everything he heard. Caspian also had the same question in his mind, but Jerome already beat him to it.

Noah’s face hardened as he remembered the fight. "I got home early yesterday only to find Ava hurting Sasha."

"What?!" Gaulin hissed. "And no one said a thing about it?!"

With gritted teeth, Jerome dismissed the staffs in the room. "You may all leave," he said angrily, and they hurriedly left the room.

"Last night, we celebrated the company’s success -- your sons successes after months of hard work. I found it unfair to ruin the good mood for something I took care of already," Matilda explained.

"If you took care of it, Ava wouldn’t be standing here, mother. She’s supposed to be locked up for laying her filthy hands on my sister," Jerome retorted, feeling more rage as he stared at Ava’s nonchalant face.

"And after everything you’ve done, you still do this to Sasha?!" Caspian roared, pointing at Sasha’s hair.

Ava raised a brow. "Are you accusing me, Caspian?" Her harsh tone only provoked her family even more.

Gaulin stood to his feet. "I’ve tried to be understanding since you got here, Ava! But here, in this mansion, I would never tolerate fighting with my daughter or disrespecting my wife, not from you or anybody else! And this..." He pointed to Sasha’s hair.

"I also will not tolerate these accusations when I’ve done nothing wrong, ’father,’" Ava said blandly, stunning Gaulin.

Sasha was also stunned by the way Ava spoke back, even if she knew within her that Ava was right. There was no prove whatsoever that Ava had done this to her, even if she knew this was all Ava. Her mind reeled as she tried to think of a way to prove Ava was guilty but when her eyes suddenly fell on the security cameras, she smiled.

"We can just check the footages from the cameras to check who really did this." Sasha earned everyone’s attention with her suggestion.

"Of course, the security footages..." Jerome encouraged the idea. Why didn’t he think of it? He called to one of the staffs. "Tell Japhar to bring the footages from last night."

The video from the camera in Sasha’s room was displayed on the big screen in the living room. While the video played, Sasha’s eyes never left Ava who seemed a little nervous. On noticing her nervousness, she smiled delightfully. Ava was involved in this, and she was finally going to expose her.

The video continued, but even up till 4 am, there was no sign of life besides Sasha who tossed in her sleep. Sasha’s brows started to fold.

The room descended into silence as the screen went dark. Sasha stared at the screen confused. "No... That’s not possible," she stammered. "Someone had to come in! I woke up this morning! My hair didn’t shave itself!"

Japhar lowered the remote. "No one came into your room last night, Miss Sasha. The footage is clear."

Ava smiled. After her little revenge last night, she’d hacked into the house’s computer, and cleared the footage herself.

Sasha’s face burned red as her family exchanged skeptical glances. Caspian rubbed his temples, clearly frustrated. "Then how do you explain this? Are you saying Sasha did this to herself?" He asked Japhar who was as lost as they all were.

"I know Ava did this!" Sasha snapped when she saw the smile that was beginning to appear on her face. "She-"

"She what?" Ava interrupted her innocently. "You’re accusing me again even when the footage clearly showed I was no where near your room?!"

Ava crossed her arms on her chest. "I’m beginning to think you did this to yourself just so you could blame me for it. After all, it’s no new news that you’re... Tsk tsk," she clicked her tongue twice as she pointed to her head.

"I will not-"

"No!" Ava interrupted Noah. "You all owe me an apology for accusing me wrongly, but I don’t need it," she said sternly. "What I also don’t need is you trying to intimidate me when I’ve done nothing wrong."

She took her time to stare at everyone’s faces, but when her eyes came to Sasha’s, she couldn’t hide her small smile. "Good luck on your presentation, Noah," Ava said and walked out of the room.

Ava went to school alone afterward, enjoying the rare peace that came with Sasha’s absence. With her sister preoccupied at home trying to salvage her disastrous hair situation, Ava had spent the day happily without having to cross paths with the person who ruined her previous life.

Returning home, the faint hum of conversations from the living room reached her ears, but Ava paid them no attention. Before she could make her way to the stairs, Matilda called out sharply. "Ava, come here."

Suppressing a groan, Ava turned to the living room. Matilda sat on the couch with a glass of wine in her hand. Gaulin looked up from the newspaper coldly. Jerome, Noah, and Caspian were also present, though they all looked more amused than concerned. And Sasha sat beside Matilda. She was now putting on a wig.

The whole family was here, except her grandfather.

Sitting opposite from them, she recognized the familiar silver hair. His beautiful deep blue eyes fell on her.

Ava froze. "Why is he here?!"
