Chapter 354: Chapter 354: I Want to Treat the Wounds on Your Back

Godfery Shaw is currently most worried about the lack of medicine.

But Nancy Allen said she had some.

Nancy raised her left hand slightly, and there was a small pouch hanging from her wrist.

The pouch was tied to her wrist. While she was drifting in the water, she lost her high heels, but this pouch never came off.

Godfery Shaw helped Nancy open the pouch. Inside were some small sealed bags containing pills and powders of various kinds.

Nancy pointed to one of the pink sealed bags and said, "These are my daily medications."

She then pointed to two white sealed bags and said, "These are fever reducers and antibiotics; I have a constitution that easily develops fevers. Although these medications can’t be taken casually, I’m used to carrying them around."

Godfery Shaw wanted to take another sealed bag.

Nancy quickly stopped him, a little afraid to look at him, saying, "Don’t touch the others; they’re all... poisonous."

These were concocted by Nancy herself, used against Hardy at the last moment previously.

Her defenses and tactics were deeply ingrained in her bones after experiencing too much hardship and were hard to change. She didn’t want Godfery to see her vicious side.

However, Godfery gritted his teeth and said, "Don’t ever mix the poisonous ones with your regular medication!"

Nancy looked at Godfery in a daze; his focus wasn’t on whether she was vicious, but on her safety.

Actually, Nancy was overthinking it.

To Godfery, there was no problem with using self-defense, even if it was poisonous. You can’t just stand there and not fight back when someone is trying to blow you up.

Nancy looked down, her face flushed from the fever, and mumbled with a nasal tone, "It’s fine; they’re sealed."

Godfery wanted to say more: What do you mean it’s fine? What if you accidentally took the wrong one?

But now, Nancy was feverish, barely lucid for a short time, and this wasn’t the time to talk about it.

Godfery took a washed leaf and caught some water from the dripping rock nearby.

He drank a little first; it had a spring-water taste. He didn’t know if it was clean, but there was no choice at the moment.

He used the leaf to catch water and fed Nancy the fever reducer and antibiotic.

Perhaps the fishy smell was too strong, but Nancy didn’t resist taking the medicine at all; she took it very quickly.

Godfery had already carefully understood Nancy’s medication dosages during her last fever, so he basically nailed it. Even if there were side effects, they couldn’t be helped, as they were nothing compared to the threat to life.

After quickly finishing the medicine, Nancy immediately said to Godfery, "Godfery Shaw, you should also take two antibiotics; I’ll help you clean the wound on your back."

Even though Nancy was woozy, she knew that if both she and Godfery were injured, Godfery would only take care of himself once he was sure she was absolutely safe, so she quickly complied and took the medicine to prompt Godfery to treat his wound.

"Okay, I’ll take two antibiotics. It’s not convenient to treat it now; we’ll deal with it when Basil and the others arrive."

"But..."

Nancy felt dizzy and too weak to continue, collapsing and drowsily falling asleep again.

Godfery laid Nancy on the dried grass to lie down, with the fire nearby; it wouldn’t be cold during the day.

But what if Basil and the others couldn’t find them by nightfall?

Godfery could tough it out, but Nancy couldn’t.

This place didn’t have any living conditions; the only consolation was that Godfery had observed today shouldn’t rain, and there was plenty of dry grass.

While Nancy slept, Godfery continued to pull up dry grass, stacking quite a pile neatly.

The explosion had caused a large area of burning pain on his back, like a fish roasting over a fire.

The fish on the fire was turned over and continued to roast.

Nancy’s fever meds took effect, and she soon began to sweat.

If she got cold again while sweating, her illness would worsen. Godfery held Nancy in the new pile of dry grass, using some as a blanket to block the chilly wind.

"It will be fine soon; once you sweat, the fever will go down." This time, no matter how much Nancy cried out from the heat, Godfery didn’t let go.

Not until Nancy sweated and slowly cooled.

Godfery touched her forehead; it was still warmer than usual, but at least it wasn’t burning anymore.

After the fever subsided, Nancy woke up again.

The first thing she did upon waking was to anxiously tell Godfery, "Godfery, I want to help you with the wound on your back."

Even if she was anxious, her voice was very small.

Nancy’s voice never had proper rest, repeatedly injured and healing, and this ragged struggling still didn’t turn her mute and she could still speak, though the voice was low and not very pleasant.

Godfery instinctively said, "I’m fine."

Nancy was about to shed tears; on top of the discomfort from her fever, her heart ached for Godfery, getting her eyes brimming with tears.

Seeing Nancy’s delicate look, Godfery immediately changed his stance, "It’s not really fine, but they’re just surface wounds; a little treatment and they’ll be alright, not life-threatening."

Nancy’s tears welled up in her eyes but didn’t fall, muttering sadly, "Then let me help you treat them."

Godfery initially wanted to refuse; he knew his back was indeed not life-threatening but must look shocking.

He was sure if he dared refuse, Nancy would immediately start crying.

Godfery said helplessly, "Alright, the wound area is large. Don’t be scared when you see it. Just a basic treatment will do. I took some of the antibiotics from your pouch; as long as there’s no infection, these are just superficial wounds, no big deal."

Under Nancy’s teary gaze, Godfery turned his back to her.

He wasn’t wearing a shirt; the ragged shirt was currently padding Nancy’s body, afraid the hard grass would chafe her tender skin.

Nancy saw the large area of wounds on Godfery’s back, covering her mouth to stop from gasping in shock.

The wounds had been soaked in filthy river water for so long, they were already red and inflamed.

Nancy used the spring water they drank, directly crushing antibiotics into powder, dissolving it into the spring to wash Godfery’s back wound.

The spring water wasn’t entirely clean, but it was still better than Godfery’s back, which looked extremely miserable.

Without any disinfectant or topical treatment, they could only use the spring water with antibiotic powder to clean the wounds.

They didn’t even have anything to bandage with, leaving the blood-tinged wounds exposed to the air which worried Nancy to no end.

Godfery remained silent; in the near-numb pain, he could feel a tiny warm hand moving gently on his back.

It seemed all his senses were focused on that small, soft hand, moving slowly from his scapula down to his waist, causing Godfery to catch his breath.

Nancy’s heart ached more as she looked, blowing gently upon Godfery’s washed wound.

The wind felt cool upon the feverishly painful wound, but instead of soothing that burning, it made Godfery’s heart burn with heat, producing an untimely stirring he should not have felt.

Godfery promptly turned around, grabbing Nancy’s hand, which was still moving around his waist.
