Reborn on Wedding Night: Flirting the Cold Bigshot into Blushes-Chapter 441: Obsession in the Heart
Thomas Carter’s face turned red after hearing his sister’s words.
He anxiously apologized to Nancy Allen: "Madam, I’m sorry, I...I didn’t mean it that way, I was just too worried about my sister, I didn’t mean to blame you."
Nancy waved her hand, not caring what the other person meant, nor about these explanations.
She just glanced at Ruby Carter a couple of times; such a fate, yet she’s an understanding girl.
The next day, Ruby still went to the greenhouse.
She really liked the atmosphere of the greenhouse, staying there to read, watching the passersby, it made her clearly feel that she was still part of this world full of blooming flowers, rather than always being locked in an empty room or a dark storage room.
Thomas could never refuse his sister’s requests; he was a bit reluctant, but still brought Ruby to the greenhouse.
There was a new manager in the greenhouse.
The new manager had a very professional smile on her face, greeted Ruby immediately: "You must be Ruby Carter, I’m Vance, the new manager of the greenhouse."
Ruby seldom interacted with people and felt a bit uneasy, so she immediately greeted back: "I...I am Ruby Carter, hello Manager Vance."
Manager Vance was someone Emma Lewis had sent over from the Capital City, not just an ordinary employee; she was very skilled and perceptive.
Seeing Ruby’s nervousness, she stepped back slightly to maintain a distance that wouldn’t make Ruby feel so tense.
Then she smiled and said: "You don’t need to be nervous; I’m just responsible for everything in the greenhouse—purchasing, sales, organization—and I’ll also be looking out for your safety. Our boss told me you could use anything in the greenhouse as you like, including that hanging chair."
Hearing this, Ruby looked at the hanging chair and felt less uneasy inside, and nodded warmly to Manager Vance: "Okay, I understand."
Ruby took out her textbooks, not sitting in the hanging chair, but on a small chair next to it, preparing to read. She looked up and said to Thomas: "Alright, brother, I’m fine. You can go to work without worrying."
Lily also heard what Manager Vance said earlier and asked Ruby with curiosity: "Why not sit in the hanging chair?"
The hanging chair had cushions and thick blankets, which looked much more comfortable than the small chair.
Ruby smiled and said: "The little privilege Miss Allen gave me is because she feels sorry for my poor health, but I shouldn’t take advantage of her kindness to occupy what she likes. Brother, if anything happens next time, I’ll call you right away, now go to work, don’t be late."
Thomas always felt a sense of shame whenever he talked to Ruby about these things. In matters concerning his sister, he often became somewhat blind and sometimes felt that he saw things less clearly than his younger sister.
When Marsh Smith came the next day, he noticed from afar that Ruby’s face seemed to be hurt.
Just as Marsh was about to go over and ask, he stopped because there was a new person in the greenhouse.
This new woman looked very different from Alva King before; having mingled in the business world for so many years, Marsh had a keen intuition about different types of people and knew this might be someone the Shaw family or Lewis family sent over who was capable and skilled.
Marsh didn’t rashly approach.
Even a small incident on this street could easily spread far, not to mention the severe lesson Alva and her daughter received.
Marsh easily found out what was going on, his eyes showing a slight hint of ruthlessness; that greedy woman almost ruined his plan.
If he hadn’t always kept his name a secret, Nancy might already know about it.
Marsh thought for a while and didn’t get closer to the greenhouse, but instead sent Ruby a message: "Don’t misunderstand, that woman who hurt you has nothing to do with me. If she dares to hurt you, I will teach her a lesson."
Ruby never replied to Marsh’s messages, even blocking him, but it was useless; after being blocked, he’d just message from another phone number.
This time Ruby couldn’t help but reply: "I have nothing to do with you, take back your gifts, I don’t need you to teach anyone a lesson for me. If you bother me again, I’ll tell Miss Allen."
Ruby was much smarter than Alva, she saw through it.
This man appeared, intentionally or unintentionally probing into Miss Allen’s affairs.
No matter what his purpose or thoughts were, such roundabout inquiries were definitely from someone with bad intentions.
After Ruby said this, the other side went silent.
For several consecutive days after that, Ruby didn’t receive any messages from the other side and felt much more at ease. The only headache was that pile of gifts; she had no way to return them.
Manager Vance, seasoned in the business world, took a quick look at the situation and understood what was going on, so she gave Ruby a suggestion.
"Ruby, if you really don’t know how to deal with these things, just give the person a call. If they are willing to take them back, let them. If not, confirm this gift relationship over the phone, and then you can donate these things. You know, these wealthy folks never treat money like money, but these things are quite valuable and enough to buy many educational supplies for the kids at a poverty-stricken school."
Ruby’s eyes lit up, thinking this was indeed a great suggestion, so she called Marsh Smith immediately.
The moment Marsh received the call, he showed a mocking expression. See, no matter how aloof a woman presents herself, they always easily compromise under the onslaught of monetary gifts.
He answered the phone with a tone filled with amusement: "Hello, Ruby, well, I’ve been busy these days, that’s why I haven’t been in touch."
After confidently saying this, Marsh didn’t expect Ruby to immediately say: "Sir, I don’t know you, and I don’t know who you are, please take back those gifts."
Marsh’s expression changed. A girl accustomed to hardship, frail and from a poor family, yet he hadn’t been able to win her over like this.
Marsh’s tone became less amicable: "Those things have already been given to you; if you don’t want them, just throw them away."
Before, when Marsh said something like this, Ruby would feel troubled, but this time she directly responded: "Since you’ve explicitly stated it’s a gift to me, if I donate these things, you wouldn’t have any objections, right?"
Feeling a bit angry and humiliated, Marsh was upset that all those valuable items—normally eagerly snatched up by women when freely given—were being resisted. He angrily said: "Do whatever you want with them."
On Ruby’s end, she still gently said: "Alright, goodbye then."
Charles Carter recorded the call as instructed by Manager Vance, then directly put those things on the secondhand market and donated all proceeds.
After that, Marsh Smith didn’t come around anymore and didn’t reach out to Ruby again, and those gifts were dealt with, leaving Ruby feeling unburdened.
But Ruby didn’t know that Marsh, instead of looking for her, sought out her brother.
Marsh’s goals had always been clear; from the start, his approach to the greenhouse staff was all for Nancy.
Unbeknownst to when it began, Nancy had become an obsession in his heart.
