Reborn Regress Return: I Am the Heir of Shadows!-Chapter 32: Shadow Mancer I
Chapter 32: Shadow Mancer I
"I'm sure she already reached friendly in the other world..." Julian muttered to himself. His gaze following Fran as she rushed back to her home and hopped inside the door before slamming it shut.
"Julian, what are you looking at... is everything alright?"
Her question faded as he turned and smiled at her, unable to avert his gaze from how lovely she looked in her kimono.
"Sorry, I was just watching the people walking around."
"Hmmm, I see."
Sena lifted her chin while leaning against his arm, before a screen popped up in front of him.
[Wife has started a trade with you, do you accept?]

"What? Did you buy something?"
"Hehe~ I did."
Her lips curled into a bright smile as she flicked the air, before he shook his head and tapped the circle hovering in his vision.
[Trade accepted!]
The moment the trade completed, a small green item flashed in the message log before appearing in his inventory.
"Wow, thank you, Sena." He couldn't hold back his smile while holding up the elegant, black gloves made with a soft, silky material in front of him. "I didn't know there were items like this."
"Teehee, it is my first gift to you... how does it feel?" Her eyes softened as she stared up at him, waiting for a reply.
Julian tapped the item, and closed his eyes with a sigh, his lips curling into a smile from the sincere and helpful gift from his lover.
"You're the best."
[Shadow Caster Gloves]
Cloth
Item Level: 6
Bind on Equip
+1 Magic
+2 Defence

"An elegant pair of gloves crafted by the Elves, capable of storing small amounts of magic within the fibres."
—
They were gorgeous. The black material fit well with his current basic attire, though he planned to buy the best items once he reached level 10. But for now, these gloves would give a nice boost to his defence.
Thanks to her gift, he no longer needed to worry about getting splinters or wounds when dismantling or hunting alone in the nightmare realm.
"I really mean it, these are wonderful, but that must have taken almost all your money." He glanced towards Sena.

However, she shook her head, letting out a giggle while placing her hand on his cheek. A warmth flowed through their touch, and he felt himself relax into it.
"Who cares if I can see your smile, any price is cheap. Because Julian's smile is priceless to me."
Ba-Dump...!
'Recently, she's become extremely aggressive.'
His heart rate suddenly shot up, as if a goblin fired an arrow through his chest.
Though he wasn't weak from this approach, the difference was that Sena never acted like this before. In his past life, or any memories that remained.
"Shall we head to the south, over the bridge?"
Sena smiled and grasped his hand. "Oh~ it's really soft, but... I miss Julian's strong fingers."
"Quit it, or I'll spank you."
"I'll spank you right back, fufu."
Unable to win this time, he sighed, exhaling while stepping towards the bridge.
The pair accepted a quest to hunt harpies in the forest because they would sneak into the village and attack their small fields. The feathers from their bodies were also necessary to craft improved quality arrows for their hunters.
'This quest isn't difficult... It's a good chance to practise how to fight properly with Sena.'
Technically, this quest would be their first.
Because he didn't aim to complete the game's story, rather levelling because of the nightmare realm, he didn't need to, though he wouldn't mind taking a few side-quests for extra money and items.
'I should save some feathers for Fran in the future...'
Items that might be scarce in the nightmare world were something he should prioritise collecting, rather than selling.
"The bridge is pretty."
Sena hopped along the wood as they made their way over the river. An NPC guard approached them but only nodded at them. If their level were below a certain amount, he would have informed them not to venture too far into the forest.
Julian nodded and moved along with Sena leading, her eyes sparkling at the bright, and beautiful scenery. They travelled along a thin trail which snaked around a small river that began to run south, but turned to the east, which was the opposite direction from their final goal.
The sound of birds filled the sky above, while squirrels scuttled between tree trunks, searching for food hidden inside their nooks and crannies.
If there wasn't a clock or day/night cycle, players could end up lost in here until they finally quit the game to discover it was the next day.
But because of Sena's strict lifestyle, the pair would have to finish before Sena. 5pm.
"Okay, let's stop touring. The monsters are going to start appearing."
"E-Eh really? What kind? I hope there are some cute ones."
'Ugh... the harpies are beautiful because of the art, but their attacks are dirty and fierce.'
"Sena." He lowered his voice as if they would appear at any moment. "Just stay on alert for anything flying down."
"Ah~ Okay." She hummed and took out her two-handed sword, and hummed. "I wish the store had a katana..."
Julian knew that her ideal weapon would be something shorter and lighter to take advantage of her combat style. Sadly, at the beginning of the game, a player could only get basic weapons, regardless of what you preferred.
Warriors would get a random choice between a two-handed sword, or sword and shield. However, once they reached the capital city, they could buy much better items that suited the player more.
"Slow down, there are two harpies in the distance."
He slipped his hand into his pocket, grasping the cold, wooden wand in his pocket, the flicker of purple runes appearing under the palm of his black gloves and lighting along the surface.
"Are you ready?"
With a deep breath, he slowly exhaled, tightening his stomach as mana flowed from his heart, bubbling like a surging river.
He guided it towards his wand, the shadowy energy flickering around his arm.
Small sparks of power flashed around his body, a spark jumping onto a leaf and making it turn purple, with veins crawling across its surface.
The wand within his grasp grew heavy as he narrowed his eyes, scowling at the two harpies in the distance, with a green circle highlighting them.
Suddenly, flicked out his wand, while pointing towards Sena with his idle hand.
—Shadow's Grasp
—Rally Unit
The world slowed down.
A sudden pressure emitted from the tip of the wand, followed by the loud snap of air blasting apart.
He flung his wrist towards one enemy before flicking it at the second. The tree beside them turned black as a shadowy apparition of black claws emerged and wrapped around the unaware harpies, causing 29 damage and immobilising them.
"Sena, attack them with all you have! I will support you."
Her eyes flashed the moment his Rally Unit empowered her.
Sena flicked her blade and stepped forward, gathering power as a blue, fiery aura wrapped around her.
『Goddess~ Julian's so hot when he orders me in that low voice! ◊』
Once again, he could hear her thoughts...
