Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1247: Predicament
The air was tense and quiet. The dimly lit room echoed with no sounds. An unnerving edge shifted in the atmosphere now and then between three souls present because no matter for how long piercing Alix’s gaze stayed boring at her twins, the twins remained glued to their comfortable cribs, sleeping without a care in the world.
After a smooth delivery and long rest, Alix had now slowly gained momentum and energy back. The first thing she did was sit in front of the crib and watch the babies she had just popped out from her body with a long, hard stare.
"What do you think?" Ai asked, peeking through the small glass window from outside.
"I don’t know. Should I go in?" Jin unconsciously took his handkerchief out and wiped his little beads of sweat. "Do you think...she is in the mood to hug me or kill me?"
"Little brother," Nian whispered, "I think she definitely wants to kill you. My senses catch a murderous feeling coming off her back."
"Hey," Liu Hai’s voice dropped into a whisper quieter than the others. "I have an important question."
"What?"
"When will I get to see your fluffy cloud twins?"
Jin shot a glare. "That is your question? I’ve not gotten the chance to see them myself and you are cutting the line here?"
"Nobody cares about you honestly."
"I am the damn FATHER!" It was a challenge to rein his voice.
"How am I wrong? It’s been more than an hour but she is glued to the same position like before. Do you think...she has fallen asleep"
"Sitting upright like that?"
"Who has just popped out two chubby babies - her or you? Will you question how she would want to rest?" Liu Hai smacked him.
Leina pulled the troublesome gang back. "Okay, stop crowding in front of her room like that. I think she wants to be alone so we should respect that-"
"Pastry aunt!!!"
The door opened as if a ghostly wind had passed through but looking down, Ailun’s gang had breached the silence and the predicament everyone was facing.
"..."
"Oh my," Ai said.
"Oh great!" Liu Hai beamed. "The door is open now. Let me go-"
Jin unceremoniously pulled him back. "You stay right here, Grandpa."
"How dare you!?"
"Shut up!"
Just then, Jun came rushing with the stroller that had Junxi enjoying the ride. "Where are the kids?"
Everyone pointed inside the room and his brow twitched. "Oh. That damn brat. Took my eyes off for one moment and they ran off like they sprouted wings..." he muttered.
The little gang had already hijacked Alix’s room, bed and her lap and by that point, it was too late. Everyone held onto their breaths for her reaction.
"Ugh, I will drag them back," Leina shook her head. "If Alix wants to stay alone, we should let her."
But it seemed like Alix wasn’t bothered at all. The gang had huddled around the crib and clapped and gasped and chattered with delight, clearly celebrating the fact that two new members had joined the ship.
Liu Hai eagerly asked Leina, "Hey, hey how is Chyou?"
"She is fine. Already up and hopping so much that Yating has to stop her," she chuckled. "Their son is also healthy. She wanted to come down to meet Alix, but..."
Jin took a deep breath. "Okay, I am going in."
Jian and Nian held his shoulders sympathetically. "You are brave, Jin. We will miss you."
"Stop talking like this is my funeral."
"It will be soon. A wife’s wrath is no joke."
Leina smiled. "Of course Jian knows it so well by now that you could open up a professional consulting service."
He coughed.
"Open your palm, Jin," Jun said.
He did, though confused. Jun placed a couple of sweet toffees on it. "Try this if you feel a threat to your life."
"..."
I mean...she is not a child to get lured in by this.
"I like toffees!" Ai beamed.
Jun handed her two and patted her head. The shine in her eyes resembled Ailun’s.
I see. That’s his inspiration...
Jin loosened his collar just a bit to get some air and pushed the door without a second thought.
"Uncle!!!"
"Hey..." he smiled at them, slightly tensely as he walked towards the bed with a slow pace.
His heart drummed in his chest, slowly inching closer to Alix who felt like a time bomb waiting to go off. Contemplating for several seconds, he finally sat down beside her.
"Hey," he whispered.
Alix blinked, finally tearing her gaze off the crib and turning to the side. "You finally came. What took you so long?"
His brow threatened to twitch. "...Wa...Was it okay to come in?"
She blinked again. "Why did you think it wasn’t okay to come in?"
Jin eyed her, then at the twins and then back at her. "I...We thought...you needed some privacy. I mean, y-you were staring at..."
"Why do you look so frightened?"
"...Am I going to die?" He finally couldn’t hold his tears back.
"..."
"Are you...diagnosed with some incurable illness?"
"What? No!" His eyes widened. "I mean die by your hands."
"Why would I kill you?" Then she paused. "What did you do?"
"Nothing!!"
Ailun scrunched his brows. "Uncle is acting funny today."
Aang nodded. "Uncle is sick? Then Uncle shouldn’t be here! You will make the twins sick too!"
The gang formed a protective ring around the crib, shooing Jin away.
That’s adorable but...that hurts too.
"Okay, out with it. Why are you acting so strange?"
"...You were staring at the twins quite passionately? You didn’t even move from your spot, so I-I thought you were angry at me for the delivery and suffering part..."
She frowned. "I know what was in store. Isn’t it too late to kill you now? As for your concern, I was staring at them because I wanted to...hold them."
Jin blinked twice. "...That’s all?"
"Yeah."
"So...why didn’t you?"
A complicated gaze made her look away. Her fingers lightly clenched onto the sheets.
"I had a bad dream, so I felt I didn’t want to look at them at first. But now I want to..do hold them, but I am already a terrible mother by now, so like...I can just stare at them now."
"..."
