Ruby had just entered the university gates when she heard the voice. She halted in her tracks for a moment before she continued walking.

"Miss Ambrose..." Ronan entered the campus, chasing after Ruby until she finally turned.

Ruby’s face was stoic as usual but her eyes were icy as she glanced at him, "This is the fifth time you stalked me."

"Ouch!" Ronan clutched his chest, "That’s a hurtful thing to say. Had I been stalking you, I would have done it secretly.’’

"What do you want from me?" Ruby shook her head, "I don’t understand. Do you like the thrill?"

"Miss Ambrose, don’t you think you are overestimating yourself if you think you are thrilling?"

Ruby blinked.

"You are quite boring."

Ruby quietly turned around and continued walking.

A few people passed by, their curious gazes wandering off to the ’university goddess’. They whispered in each other’s ears both when they turned again, Ruby was nowhere to be seen.

"Was it an illusion?"

"How could she disappear so fast?"

At a little distance, Ronan had Ruby pinned to a tree.

"What... are you doing?"

Ronan released her hands, "Woman, I am preserving your reputation, can’t you see?"

"From who? You?"

Ruby straightened up and dusted off her dress,"I have a fiance."

"Maxwell Hill?" Ronan chuckled, "You don’t even love him."

"That’s not for you to decide."

Ronan towered over her, "You can’t fool me into thinking that you love that scoundrel, Miss Ambrose."

"That’s my fiance you are talking about," Ruby said, coldly.

Ronan’s jaw ticked. Something about her unchanging face as she made the declaration, made him want to prove her wrong.

"Or is it a hobby of yours to chase taken women who are emotionally unavailable?"

Ronan closed the gap between them, till she was completely leaning back on the tree,"The said taken woman who took my virginity on the night of her engagement?"

The reminder of that evening made Ruby flinch and a crack appeared on her face, "I was drunk..."

"So drunk that you landed yourself in another man’s bed, while your so-called fiance was somewhere out there, drinking your engagement wine..."

Ronan stopped speaking as Ruby’s eyes reddened, unshed tears sparkling in them as she looked at him coldly.

Something hit him in the gut and it was suddenly difficult for him to breathe, "Ruby, I..."

"Ruby?"

Ruby froze. When she turned around, she was faced with Max who was standing at a little distance.

"It’s really you!" Max frowned, his gaze shifting between Ruby and Ronan before settling on her, "Who is he?"

Ronan’s gaze scanned across the hickeys peppered around Max’s neck and his eyes narrowed, a vicious glint flashing across the usually charming face.

Ruby paused for a moment before she spoke, "What are you doing here?" She calmly stepped out from the tree.

"Did you forget? Our parents wanted us to go wedding shopping today. When I reached there, the servants told me that you have already left for university. But your father said I can pick you up from here..."

"You are getting married?" Ronan tucked a palm in his pocket as he stepped out of the tree and looked at Ruby, "To this thing?"

He did not even spare Max a glance as if one look at him would sully Ronan’s existence.

Max’s nostril flared, his eyes narrowed, "Ruby, you still haven’t answered my question, have you? Who the hell is he? If you don’t tell me—"

"Ronan, didn’t I ask you to look for me in the classroom? What are you doing here?"

A soft voice interrupted the tense atmosphere.

Everyone turned to look at Ella who approached them, sporting a big smile.

Max’s heart skipped a few beats at the sight of the girl who was dressed in an elegant blue dress. Since she was usually dressed in oversized hoodies, he had failed to notice how much weight she had lost.

’She looks so much more beautiful than the last time... When she smiles, she seems to glow even more...’

Max snapped out of his reverie when Ella stepped past him. Without sparing him a single gaze, Ella approached Ronan.

"You know him?" Max inhaled a deep breath.

Without looking at him, Ella tried to swing a hand above his shoulder. Unfortunately he was too tall.

Ella frowned, "Lower yourself a bit..."

Ronan gave her a weird look but still lowered his body sideways.

Ella struck a ’buddy’ pose, putting her hand on his shoulder.

"Does he know?" Max gritted his teeth as he stepped forward, "Does he know that you are hanging out with another man? You bit—"

’Pak’

Max’s face whipped to the side, a burning sensation spreading on her face.

Ella massaged her wrist gently.

Max gritted his teeth, "How dare you! Do you know who I am—"

’Bam’

Before he could finish speaking, his body flew backwards by the impact of Ronan’s punch.

A few people noticed the chaos and as they started gathering, Max struggled to get up from the ground.

He looked at Ella, his fists clenching. After a while, he turned around and walked away.

From the beginning to end, he did not spare Ruby another glance.

Ronan turned to look at Ruby.

"Leave," She did not even look at him.

"Ruby..."

"Leave me alone," Ruby looked at him, her eyes red.

Ronan’s fingers curled into a fist. He looked like he had something more to say but in the end, he turned around and walked away.

When Ronan entered his car, his thoughts circled around the sight of Ruby, looking at him with tears in her eyes.

The girl slept with him, pretending to be a foreigner, left him some money like he was a hooker and later when he caught her lies, she acted so aloof. He couldn’t deny that he had approached her to get on her last nerve.

Ronan would deem himself to be a short tempered man neither did he have any explosive emotions. He had seen the worst of the world as an orphan before he was taken in by the King Family.

And even after that, all he was guaranteed was a life and bread to eat. His survival was snatched from other’s mouths. He had fought and struggled endlessly to make it to where he was today.

There were very few things that made Ronan feel much. Yet, something inside him shifted when she claimed Max as her fiance.

And a murderous urge to claim that trash’s life overcame him when he stood in front of Ruby, wearing those hickeys on his neck like some medals.

Ronan leaned back on the car seat, breathing deeply.

His eyes opened when the ringing of his phone reverberated in his car.

Ronan was about to reject the call but when his gaze landed on the caller ID that reflected a top private investigator’s name, his gaze flashed.

He answered the call, putting it on speaker, "Did you find something yet?"

"Mr. Knight, there is nothing significant..."

Ronan frowned, "Are you sure...?"

"I tried to look into what you wanted me to investigate. But Mr. King has probably erased the CCTV recordings that records his first encounter with Miss Yu after her scandal..."

"And unlike what you doubted, I don’t think they have met before that incident. Investigating Mr. King is difficult but Miss Yu has spent a major part of her childhood in another country. It’s impossible that they met each other before..."

During the time Adrian had a panic attack, Ronan felt like something was amiss. Adrian’s entire world revolved around Ella when they had met a few years ago.

The way they got married and he kept her in his mansion, so obsessively close to him. None of it was normal.

If he had to solve the knot about Adrian’s health, he would need to get to the bottom of this thing.

Yet, he never expected such a result.

’Did I overthink it?’ Ronan pinched the spot between his brows.

Inside a cab, Ella shifted to the side and opened her phone.

Adrian: [Reached?]

Ella was about to type a reply when Ruby spoke up, "Where are you taking me?"

Ella laughed, "Kidnapping you..."

Ruby gave her a look. After their classes, when she told Ella that her stepfather wasn’t around, she wasn’t expecting the girl to book a cab and drag her somewhere with her.

"I thought you would not be coming back today,’’ Ruby said.

Ella touched her nose. Even she had thought the same but with Deity Adrian around, impossible things were made possible in the blink of an eye. Like it happened today.
