If it weren’t for Adrian casually throwing her onto a private jet before disappearing with a file in hand, she would have still been stuck in Westra City.

Ella smiled awkwardly.

"Where are we going?" Ruby asked her curiously.

"Just take a nap. You will know once you wake up."

Seeing that she had no intention to reveal it, Ruby sighed.

Ella pulled out her phone and glanced at Adrian’s last text.

Adrian: [Reached?]

A mischievous glint flickered in her eyes as she typed a reply.

In Westra City.

"Second Master, Miss Quinn is here to supervise the branch companies under the orders of Chairman Quinn. The affairs of Lilac should also fall under her supervision. Shall we inform her about the current situation?" Ji Yan looked at the man from the rearview mirror.

"No need," Adrian scrolled on his phone screen but even after a few seconds, he did not see a reply to his text from Ella.

’Ding’

Ella: [I have reached and attended the classes. Thank you for today. I will pay you back in whatever way you want *wink wink*]

Adrian’s eyes glinted and a hint of a smile crossed his face.

Ji Yan felt complicated. If Ella managed to cooperate with ’Lilac’ and solve the company’s current crisis now, then it would be a blow to Lilith’s reputation if things got public.

Yet, his Second Master didn’t seem to care about it in the slightest despite the years of acquaintance with the Quinn family.

At first, Ji Yan used to think that his Second Master was simply clueless about Lilith’s feelings for him. But now, he was sure that the man did not care about anyone other than Ella.

Ji Yan glanced at the text that popped on his phone and he stepped on the brakes.

The car zithered before coming to a halt.

Adrian’s brows tugged together.

"S-Second Master... This... This..." With trembling hands, Ji Yan offered his phone to Adrian.

Adrian zoomed into the picture of the mass grave. In the picture, one could see half the body of a young boy.

In the hand of the boy, there was a blue colored thin bracelet that was especially eye-catching.

"That was the bracelet you had gifted the First Young Master on his birthday..."

Adrian remained silent but his eyes narrowed subtly.

"Back then, we couldn’t find the First Young Master’s body. The Old Madam and Old Master were so heartbroken that they closed the case. Upon our re-investigation this time, this picture was found from an architect who had taken over some construction work nearby in that year..."

Adrian leaned back on his seat.

Ji Yan couldn’t predict the man’s mood, ’’Second Master, the governor..."

’’Set him free," Adrian looked out of the window, his thoughts unreadable.

"And the... shall I continue investigating the person behind Vermilion Bird Auction House?"

Adrian remained silent for a few moments before he opened his mouth, "Destroy the auction house. It was his belonging, it should go down with him."

A shiver crept down Ji Yan’s spine at the frost in Adrian’s voice, "Noted."

"Back to Vermilion City."

Ji Yan was stunned. Unexpectedly, his Second Master’s aura seemed to soften slightly when he said that.

"Yes."

"This... is where you live?"

When Ruby entered the Eve Mansion, her eyes narrowed slightly.

Ella looked at her back nervously, taking small steps, "You don’t like it here...?"

From a distance, the duo seemed like a mother hen and her chick as the latter followed the former meekly, looking for her approval.

They were one step away from entering the mansion when Ruby turned on her heels, "Ella, you said your boyfriend is a member of the branch family of the Kings!"

Ella smiled, ’’He is cute."

"That’s not the point here..."

Two little fingers rushed from inside the mansion and pounced on Ella.

"Riri! Lala!" Ella secretly let out a sigh of relief at their timing.

These little ones were given princess treatment back in the Main Mansion and she had expected them to spend more time there. Who could have known they would appear just in time to save her?

The kitty and the puppy swayed their tails and snuggled into Ella’s embrace, "Here, meet you Aunt Ruby," Ella turned them towards Ruby.

"Aunt?"

"Oh, did I forget to mention it. Technically, they are my babies so by that relation, you would be their Aunt... Here, hold them..."

Ella shoved Riri into Ruby’s arms while she was still stunned. Curious Riri looked around speechlessly but seeing his Mommy’s vigorous blinking, he gave in to his fate and cuddled Ruby.

Ruby had just started to recover from her shock when a little kitten climbed atop her shoulder and sat like a royal lady.

Ruby opened her mouth, her brows furrowed.

Ella held her breath.

’’They are cute," Ruby petted them a little cluelessly as she turned around and entered the mansion.

Ella finally sighed in relief. She had wanted to uplift Ruby’s mood after the Max-Ronan fiasco but she nearly got caught in the crossfire.

She couldn’t think of the consequences if Ruby got to know about Adrian’s true identity and how their relationship came into existence.

Four hours later.

"Your sister has slept with your husband, how can you be sitting there laughing?"

Ella pouted, "What am I supposed to do? Cry?"

"Of course, you are supposed to be heartbroken in this scene,’’ Ruby waved the script in her hand.

"I just can’t. Why don’t you pick another scene?"

Ruby flipped through the script before shaking her head, "Countless people are auditioning for the role of female lead. If you want to stand out, you need to pick a role that brings out your skills."

"But I am unskilled in acting," Ella drew circles on the floor.

Ruby sighed and got up from the bed, "How about this? Imagine yourself in that situation. You are a married woman who is in love with her husband but one day you come across the affair of your husband and sister. Just imagine it..."

"Pfff..."

Ruby: "_"

Ella slapped a palm across her mouth. Everytime I imagine this, I feel like I am sullying Adrian King...

Seeing the solemn look on Ruby’s face, Ella straightened like a diligent student, "Why don’t you demonstrate it for me once?"

"I have demonstrated it 43 times in the past four hours."

Ella: "_"

"Once more?"

Ruby sighed helplessly, "Fine..."

There was the sound of urgent footsteps before there was a knock on Ella’s door.

Ella rose to her feet, "Come in..."

The head servant, Bertha, pushed open the door and turned to Ella but hesitated to speak at first, "Miss Yu..."

Ella frowned, "What is it about?"

Bertha glanced at Ruby but seeing that Ella did not seem to hide anything, she turned to Ella, "Esther Yu is here."

Esther paced around in the living room with a few bags in her hand.

When she heard the sound of approaching footsteps, she looked up. "Sis..." Before she could say another word, she froze in her spot as Ruby descended the stairs, right behind Ella.

When Ella and Ruby came to stand in front of Esther, only then did she snap out of her shock.

"What are you doing here?" Various thoughts flashed in Esther’s mind before she opened her mouth, her voice coming out unexpectedly hostile.

"Is that how you talk to your elder sister’s friend, Essie?" Ella spoke gently, yet the disappointment in her voice was palpable.

"Your friend?! She badmouthed you, and then stole your man! If not for her, you and Max would still be in a happy relationship!"

As she spoke, her voice rose and the servants around the huge hall could hear her loud and clear.

Ella sneered inwardly. If this had been the situation half a year ago, rumors about her infidelity would have flown high in the Eve mansion and she would have been the object of scrutiny for everyone.

Even while throwing a fit, Esther did not forget to drag her down.

"Max? Is he worthy enough for us to fight over him?" Ella chuckled softly.

Esther placed the bags down as she stepped closer to Ella and hugged her arm, "But sis..."

"Apologize."

Esther’s brows twitched, "W-What?"

"Apologize to Ruby," Ella snatched her hand out of the girl’s grip and took a step back from her.

"What? Why...? You want me to apologize to her?!"

"You can’t? Then grab your stuff and leave," Ella looked at her calmly, "And don’t show me your face until I ask you again."

Esther’s body trembled as she looked at Ella in disbelief.
