Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 257: Taking Others’ Words So Seriously?
Chapter 257: Chapter 257: Taking Others’ Words So Seriously?
Throughout the Spring Festival, Lin Zhiyi spent almost the entire time in her hospital bed.
Fortunately, she had Li Huan and Liu He to chat with her, and Sang Li also came by often.
Unexpectedly, on the day she was being discharged and as she was packing up with Liu He, Sang Li brought a woman over.
"Zhiyi, are you feeling all right?"
The woman waved hello, revealing the wedding ring on her finger.
Lin Zhiyi glanced at it and smiled faintly, "You are...?"
The woman apologized, "Look at my memory, I forgot you can’t remember now. I’m Sang Ran, Sang Li’s sister, we used to get along really well. I wanted to come to see you earlier, but my brother wouldn’t allow it."
Sang Li interjected, "She’s recovering from her injuries, not here for fun, and weren’t you busy enough with your wedding?"
Sang Ran pouted, "Don’t even mention the wedding. I had no idea there was so much to do when getting married. Thank goodness Third Young Master helped me in every aspect, otherwise I would have been overwhelmed. But... who knows if you have an ulterior motive?"
It sounded like a complaint, but her face couldn’t hide her happiness.
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhiyi smiled sincerely and spoke with an air of relief in her tone.
"I know you, I’ve often heard my mom praising you, and I heard you’re about to get married. Congratulations."
Sang Ran gently covered her lips, "You’re making me blush."
Liu He laughed, "No need to be shy, you’re great as you are."
The atmosphere lightened immediately.
"Actually, I’m getting discharged today too, you didn’t have to come all this way."
Lin Zhiyi lowered her head to continue packing and didn’t pursue the previous topic any further.
After thinking for a moment, Sang Ran continued, "Actually, it’s quite a coincidence. Third Young Master is being discharged today too. He had a cold and fever that just wouldn’t go away, but he’s finally recovered these last two days. I came to pick him up and thought I’d visit you as well."
A silent moment fell upon the room.
Lin Zhiyi had just finished zipping up her luggage when she looked up to find everyone stealing glances at her.
Puzzled, she furrowed her brows, "What’s up?"
Sang Ran cautiously inquired, "Third Young Master... don’t you remember him?"
"Of course I remember, Gong Family’s Third Young Master, your fiancé, who doesn’t know him? I have amnesia; I’m not stupid," Lin Zhiyi laughed.
Seeing her laugh it off, everyone else chuckled along.
Sang Ran seemed to want to say something more but was interrupted by Sang Li.
"It’s about time, let’s head out together."
Liu He quickly changed the subject, "Yeah, let’s go."
Lin Zhiyi made a sound of agreement and reached for her bag, but Sang Li was quicker to the draw and grabbed it for her.
"Let’s go."
"Thank you," Lin Zhiyi expressed her gratitude.
Sang Li looked at her, leaned in a little closer, and spoke in a deep voice, "If you really want to say thanks, maybe we can make plans for that meal we talked about?"
Lin Zhiyi shyly turned her head away, probably guessing what Sang Li was thinking.
After all, someone of his status certainly didn’t lack for a meal.
She also didn’t want to owe anybody anything and after a moment’s thought, she suggested, "Do you have time today? How about I treat you to dinner today?"
"I have time," Sang Li responded with a smile.
His assistant, Zhou Zhao, was taken aback and forced a laugh.
What free time?
There was so much to do at the company. The original plan was to stay in Jing City for only three days, and it’s already been a week.
The bane of beauty.
Lin Zhiyi stepped out of the hospital room, discussing what to eat with Sang Li.
Suddenly, a dark and brooding gaze fell upon her.
The man in a long black coat walked side-by-side with Li Huan, his tall figure exuding an aura of austere danger with each measured step.
Lin Zhiyi casually looked up, meeting a pair of icy eyes.
She didn’t look away, only watching curiously, but she noticed a flicker in his eyes, tinged with restraint.
When she tried to get a closer look, his gaze had returned to a calm stillness.
Sang Ran approached cheerfully, hooking her arm into his, "Third Young Master, are you done talking with Doctor Li?"
"Mhm," Gong Chen replied with a bland tone.
Then, aside from Lin Zhiyi, everyone greeted each other in turn.
Finally, Liu He gave Lin Zhiyi a nudge with her elbow and whispered a reminder, "The least you could do is say hello."
Lin Zhiyi replied awkwardly, "I don’t know him. How should I greet him?"
Her voice was quite low, but since everyone was standing close by, they heard her clearly.
The man across from her grew visibly colder.
Lin Zhiyi felt so awkward she wished she could burrow into the ground.
Sang Li bent down close to her and whispered, "Let’s follow seniority."
"Mhm." Lin Zhiyi wore a look of compliance, turning her head towards Gong Chen, "Uncle."
Her eyes were clear, without resentment or hatred.
Even polite with a respect for an elder.
Gong Chen’s lips were tight, his voice cold, "So obedient to others?"
Lin Zhiyi looked at him puzzled, pointing to Sang Li beside her, "He’s not ’others.’"
Gong Chen’s pupils contracted, as cold as frost in deep winter.
Lin Zhiyi felt a chill down her spine and subconsciously inched closer to Sang Li’s side.
Whether it was an illusion or not, she seemed to catch a glimpse of self-mockery in his eyes.
Sang Li naturally raised his hand to protect Lin Zhiyi, his voice deep, "Third Young Master, Zhiyi and I have things to do, we’ll be leaving first."
Lin Zhiyi followed him away.
As they brushed past Gong Chen, her hand felt as though it was faintly brushed by something.
She didn’t care at first, but then a strange sensation came from the back of her hand.
Without hesitating for even a second, she naturally lifted her hand to brush her hair and quickly caught up with Sang Li’s steps.
Not until the corner did Lin Zhiyi glance back slightly.
She saw Sang Ran and Gong Chen walking away hand in hand, their fingers interlocked.
The rings on their fingers connected, as if a ribbon of fate intimately bound them together.
"Zhiyi?" Sang Li called in the elevator.
"Coming."
Lin Zhiyi smiled and entered the elevator. freewebnσvel.cøm
In the moment the elevator doors closed, Gong Chen suddenly stopped and turned around.
But Lin Zhiyi didn’t see him.
"Third Young Master, what’s wrong?" Sang Ran looked up and asked.
"It’s nothing. Let’s go."
Gong Chen effortlessly let go of her hand and strode forward.
Standing behind him, Sang Ran noticed that his silhouette seemed lonelier than before.
Li Huan consoled her from the side, "He’s just recovered from his illness; he might not have regained his vigor yet."
Sang Ran felt this made sense, didn’t think much of it, bid farewell to Li Huan, and followed Gong Chen’s figure.
...
Gong Family.
After getting out of the car, Sang Ran realized that Gong Chen didn’t get out.
"Third Young Master, aren’t you coming out?"
"There’s still a lot of work to be done before the wedding; I’m heading back to the office. Don’t wait for me today, remember to take your medication, and rest early."
Gong Chen, looking at his documents, gave instructions in an orderly manner.
Sang Ran stiffened.
Why couldn’t she feel any warmth in such caring words?
Before she could respond, Gong Chen had already left.
She sighed and returned to the courtyard, not expecting someone was already waiting for her.
"Auntie? What brings you here?"
Wen Qing reached out and pulled Sang Ran, but her gaze fell behind her, sweeping around as she asked, "Where’s the Third Young Master? Isn’t he with you?"
"He went to the office."
Sang Ran sat down and poured herself a cup of tea.
But before she could drink it, Wen Qing grabbed her arm.
"You’re about to get married, and he’s not spending more time with you but goes to the office during the holiday?"
"Auntie, the Third Young Master is naturally busy; I can’t expect him to stop working just to keep me company, can I?"
Sang Ran pulled her arm free and took a sip of tea.
Wen Qing frowned, "Sang Ran, I’m thinking of your best interest. Do you know how many women are eyeing the position of Third Madam?"
Sang Ran was indifferent, "If the Third Young Master has promised to marry me, he will definitely do it; he’s not one to break his word."
"Then answer me one thing honestly," Wen Qing said with a serious expression.
"What is it?"
"Has he touched you?"
