Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 276: Fearing That Someone Might Run Away
Chapter 276: Chapter 276: Fearing That Someone Might Run Away
Lin Zhiyi left the bar and went straight to the private hospital.
As soon as she entered the ward, Liu He hurled her phone at the white wall.
With a snap, the phone’s screen shattered on impact.
Curling up on the bed, struggling and covering her head, Liu He lifted her head upon hearing the noise, revealing a pair of bloodshot, tear-filled eyes.
Clearly, soon after she had pretended to be fine and finished a video call with Gong Shiyan, someone had threatened her.
When Liu He saw Lin Zhiyi, she couldn’t control her tears, and her meticulous makeup smeared across her face.
In just three or four short days, she had become so haggard that her cheeks were hollowed.
So this was what Gong Chen meant by "Your mom is already okay."
Lin Zhiyi stepped forward and hugged Liu He, "Mom, don’t be afraid. This injustice you’re enduring won’t be for nothing."
Liu He sobbed and trembled in Lin Zhiyi’s arms.
It wasn’t until midnight that Lin Zhiyi finally soothed Liu He to sleep.
She left the ward quietly, leaning wearily against the corridor’s white wall.
As she looked up and sighed, suddenly her cheek burned.
Lin Zhiyi touched her face and turned, surprised to see the person before her.
"Mr. Sang? What are you doing here?"
Sang Li frowned at Lin Zhiyi’s complexion and handed her a carton of milk to drink.
"Drink something quickly, you look awful."
A warmth filled Lin Zhiyi’s palm, and her body seemed to slowly regain sensation.
She nodded, "Thank you."
Taking off his coat, Sang Li draped it over her shoulders and mused, "I was only away on a business trip for a couple of days, and someone decided to get married without a word."
Lin Zhiyi was taken aback, "How did you know?"
"Xiao Ran told me. She called me three times in one day, afraid that a certain someone would run off."
As he spoke, Sang Li’s gaze was deep and intense upon Lin Zhiyi.
Lin Zhiyi bit her milk straw, feeling slightly uneasy about meeting his eyes.
Sang Li spoke softly, "Zhiyi, I’m not trying to pressure you. I think you must have encountered some trouble, can you talk about it?"
At his words, the milk in Lin Zhiyi’s mouth turned bitter.
Wen Qing was Sang Li’s aunt and had raised him; sharing such things would only make it difficult for others.
After much thought, she chose to say nothing.
"I’m sorry, I can’t tell you about it right now. You have to trust me..."
"I do. I know you, and you wouldn’t do this without a reason," Sang Li interjected, nodding before she could finish.
Hearing this brought a sour feeling to Lin Zhiyi’s eyes. She hadn’t known Sang Li for long, yet he chose to trust her.
But...
Sang Li did not press her further. Glancing at his watch, he spoke softly, "It’s late. Let me take you home."
"Yeah. But how did you know I was here?"
"Your phone was off, and when I went to your place, I happened to meet your neighbor. She said you had a friend here in the hospital. So I decided to try my luck," explained Sang Li.
"Actually, you didn’t have to come," Lin Zhiyi said, feeling embarrassed.
Sang Li lifted the coat on her shoulders, somewhat off-topic, "Zhiyi, you can come to me if you need anything."
Lin Zhiyi paused.
It was a lie to say she wasn’t moved, especially when she felt cornered and desperate, these words were like a breath of fresh air.
But she knew very clearly that no one could help her, except herself.
She looked at Sang Li with gratitude, "Thank you."
"Let’s go."
Sang Li gently put his arm around her shoulders, helping her walk out.
As they got into the car and left, Lin Zhiyi felt like someone was watching from outside the window. She instinctively looked out.
Seeing the empty parking spot, she withdrew her gaze.
As the car disappeared, a man stood at the corner silently smoking a cigarette.
Just then, Chen Jin came from the stairs.
"Third Young Master, the best doctors have already been found to take care of the Second Madam."
"Let’s go."
Gong Chen flicked his cigarette before getting into the car.
Coincidentally, at the turning intersection, Lin Zhiyi and Sang Li’s car happened to stop in the lane next to Gong Chen’s car.
Gong Chen coldly observed the two people inside the car.
During the ninety-second red light, Lin Zhiyi and Sang Li talked a lot.
The last time Lin Zhiyi spoke so much to him was when she deceived him at the villa.
When the green light came on, Lin Zhiyi’s figure turned the corner and disappeared.
Gong Chen furrowed his brows, lifting his hand to rub his temples.
Chen Jin saw this and expressed his concern, "Third Young Master, do you need me to pull over and get some medicine?"
Since the villa fire, Gong Chen had been getting headaches, but medical checks showed nothing wrong.
Li Huan said he had something on his mind, that he was pushing himself too hard.
Gong Chen looked out the car window without speaking, simply caressing the wedding ring on his middle finger.
He used to habitually spin his signet ring to remind himself of his responsibilities, and he couldn’t recall when he started to routinely touch the ring and space out.
Arriving at the Gong Family residence.
The butler was directing servants to move luggage.
With just a glance, Gong Chen recognized it was his luggage from Su He Bay.
He asked in a cold voice, "What’s going on?"
The butler shrank his neck subconsciously when he saw the aura around Gong Chen.
"Third Young Master, this..."
"It was I who had it moved back."
Old Mr. Gong’s stern voice came from the entrance of the living room.
Gong Chen swept his eyes sideways, and after a slight nod from Chen Jin, he approached Old Mr. Gong.
"Tomorrow, the staff will be back to work, and there’s a lot to be done. It’s inconvenient for me to travel back and forth."
"Have you forgotten that you are getting married in just over a month? What does living alone in Su He Bay, neglecting your fiancee, count for?"
The old man huffed coldly and turned to enter the living room.
Gong Chen’s gaze was deep, but his face was emotionless as he followed.
After sitting down, a servant poured tea.
He drank calmly, with no intention of replying to the old man.
Instead, the old man seemed to lose his patience.
"You don’t even want to speak to me now?"
"And what should I say? Shouldn’t I thank you for deliberately introducing Wen Qing to the other party’s wife? Such a big deal, and we still have to watch Wen Qing’s mood."
Gong Chen lifted his eyes, giving the man before him a cold look. Although the man was reluctant to admit it, he showed signs of frailty.
To think he would, for personal reasons, complicate an otherwise straightforward business deal.
Wen Qing was very influential among the ladies of high society; many powerful wives listened to her.
Once the circle of wives got involved in company decisions, the whole thing would become especially complicated.
And that was why Wen Qing suddenly had control over the direction of the deal.
Old Mr. Gong snorted lightly, deliberately saying, "If you don’t want to get involved, I can have your Second Brother take care of it."
"Threatening me?" Gong Chen set down his teacup, his eyes darkening, "You’ve long noticed Wen Qing’s affection for Second Brother, and you know Wen Qing’s schemes. So you’re well aware that I would never let Second Brother interfere in this matter."
"You gave Wen Qing so much power, simply to restrain me and to kill two birds with one stone with Liu He and Lin Zhiyi."
The old man tilted his head back, speaking as though it was only natural, "That’s right. So what? Isn’t it all for your own good? Anyway, you can’t change any outcome now."
"Is that so?" Gong Chen stood up, adjusting his sleeves, his noble features revealing a frost-like coldness, "You don’t look well. Rest early; I’m going back."
"What do you mean by that? I’ve already moved your things back for you!" The old man said, frustrated.
"Then move them back."
Gong Chen turned and left, no longer paying attention to the old man.
As he left, Chen Jin had already had the items moved back into the car.
The butler ran into the living room helplessly, "Third Young Master left."
The old man knocked the teacup from the table, frowning deeply in anger.
"Notify Wen Lan, tell her to speed things up. Gong Chen is likely beyond my control now."
"Yes."
