Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure-Chapter 111: The Sweetest Husband Who Swears He Isn’t
Inside the car, I kept getting this feeling that Lando was staring at me. Every time I turned my head, he would instantly look away, as if he hadn’t been caught doing exactly that.
Honestly, it made me want to laugh and scream at the same time. If he wanted to look at me, he could just do it openly. He was my husband, not some shy schoolboy sneaking glances at his crush.
I let my eyes travel over what he was wearing. Last night, he asked me what color my gown would be. I thought he was just making small talk, maybe checking if I really had a dress ready.
But who would’ve thought he asked because he wanted to choose a color that matched mine? He didn’t exactly wear purple, but rather a navy-blue suit that still harmonized with my gown.
The fabric looked like velvet, so when it caught the light, the color shifted slightly.
His suit wasn’t plain at all—gold buttons, a white shirt with a dramatic wide collar that sat over his lapels, and just a few undone buttons that made him look effortlessly relaxed, handsome, and dangerously charming.
His blonde hair was styled neatly back, but a few short strands still fell over his forehead, making him look so handsome that it was impossible to ignore him.
"Who’s your stylist?" I asked suddenly.
Lando eventually turned toward me, frowning slightly. "Stylist? I don’t have a stylist."
Wait, what? I thought the person who made him wear such a masterpiece was someone skilled in fashion.
"T-Then you styled your hair by yourself too?"
He nodded, then looked away, almost shy. "Does it look weird?"
"No, no, no!" I immediately shook my head, my pearl earrings ringing softly. "You look handsome! And perfect—yes, you look perfect!"
Like a sculpture carved flawlessly by its artist, something that would be nearly impossible to replicate even with plastic surgery.
"I just thought so because I even paid a stylist to determine my look for tonight," I lowered my head a little. "Now I feel embarrassed."
Lando, who wore simple clothes every day, could pull off something like this effortlessly, but I needed a damn AI stylist assistant to help me?!
"But you look beautiful..." he lowered his voice. "I guess it’s worth paying a stylist for you."
Lando then looked a little awkward, as if he wanted to grab something from under his seat but kept hesitating.
"I... actually prepared something for you too." After a moment, he finally pulled out a small paper bag from under the seat. "I think it would suit your dress very well."
He handed the bag to me, and I immediately took it. "What is it?" I asked.
"Just open it," he said softly.
Without waiting any longer, I opened the bag and the small box inside. To my surprise, its contents were a breathtaking diamond necklace.
But it wasn’t just any diamond necklace—this was The Celestia Tear diamond! A famous piece designed by top jewelry artist Irene Delacroix, renowned because the diamond could shift colors between icy silver, pale sapphire, and star-white under different lighting.
I almost forgot how to breathe when I remembered this necklace was worth a freaking thirty million dollars!
"La-Lando, are... are you sure you want to give me this?" I stammered. "This... isn’t this... expensive? I thought... I thought your family didn’t give you a decent allowance."
I was just trying to make sure Lando was still sane. Because if people saw me—a rookie actress—wearing this insanely expensive necklace, wouldn’t they question where I got the money to afford it? Or how my husband could afford it, when everyone knew he was only the illegitimate son of Victor Brixton?
The public didn’t even know Lando’s name!
[The public knows nothing about him, but isn’t that actually an advantage, Host?]
Advantage? My husband could end up being accused of embezzlement! And I really didn’t want our first red-carpet rumor to be "Up-and-coming actress and secret husband caught in luxury fraud scandal."
[If you two show up at the charity gala looking like a perfect fairytale couple, you’ll gain good exposure, and Victor Brixton might even try to take credit as a "good father" just to boost his own image.]
There was always a chance Victor would wonder where Lando got a necklace like that, but there was also another possibility that he might assume his illegitimate son secretly had powerful support behind him.
In other words, this diamond necklace wasn’t just a beautiful accessory, but it was a move on the chessboard. The kind of thing Lando would probably use to warn his family not to mess with him or his wife.
Of course, my sweet husband would never admit that was his plan.
"I also have a few other jobs, aside from working for my family." He cleared his throat, looking like he was trying very hard to make his lie sound believable. "Actually, I don’t work for my family anymore. I recently got the chance to work for Zentra. It just so happens... I have a good relationship with some executives there, and this necklace is a gift for our marriage."
...Sure. Because random executives just hand out thirty-million-dollar jewelry like candy.
"Are you sure your executive gave this necklace for free?" I teased him. "What if he actually likes me and wants to steal me from you?"
Lando went quiet for a moment before asking, "Would you go with him if he did?"
I froze, suddenly realizing this question felt just as dangerous as when I once asked him who he thought was prettier: Helena or Helcia.
"Well... rich men are tempting," I joked. His eyes widened a little, so I quickly laughed and leaned into him, hugging his arm tightly. "But no amount of money could make me leave my sweet husband."
He tensed up when I hugged him, trying to stay calm even though his ears turned a little red. "I’m not... sweet at all." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
But the more he denied it, the sweeter he looked. And honestly? Watching him try so hard not to melt was the cutest thing I’d seen all day.
