Reborn with My Genius Husband-Chapter 84: I’ve Handed the Money Over to My Girlfriend
The label on the bubble tea read "half sugar, with extra pearls and coconut jelly."
Holly Winslow tilted her head to look at Mortimer Quincy’s handsome side profile, and a sweet feeling flooded her heart. She glanced around before leaning close to his ear. "Thanks, honey."
Mortimer Quincy turned his head slightly and raised an eyebrow, a smile in his low, husky voice. "You’re welcome. Just sneak off into the woods with me for a bit tonight."
Holly Winslow: "..."
So much for the touching moment.
’What a perv.’
She stuck the straw into her bubble tea and took a huge slurp, puffing her cheeks out. She shot him a warning look, threatening to spray a mouthful at him if he said another word.
Like a little koi fish.
Mortimer Quincy couldn’t hold back a laugh. He reached out and poked her puffy cheek, whispering, "If you dare to spray, I dare to kiss you." He even wiggled his eyebrows after speaking.
He looked quite expectant.
Holly Winslow swallowed, then let out a few coughs. "COUGH, COUGH..." "..."
When the grades were released, Gabe Chaucer naturally came to give a summary, taking up the evening self-study session. With a grim look on his face, he began, "Some of you didn’t do very well this time. I have no idea what you people do all day. This is already the second semester of your junior year..."
After the criticism came the praise. He looked toward Mortimer Quincy’s seat, his tone filled with pride and gratification. "Everyone should learn from Mortimer Quincy. He scored a 747 this time. The school has already announced that he will be given a three-thousand-yuan reward."
This was a new policy they’d started this year. The whole city knew Jarton County had a star student, and many other schools were trying to poach him.
After all, if a school produced the city’s top scorer, the entire school’s prestige would get a boost.
The whole class immediately let out an envious "WOW!" followed by a round of applause.
Holly Winslow’s eyes lit up. She suddenly remembered something from when they had first gotten together; she’d accidentally overheard him say the school had given him a scholarship.
In her ignorance back then, she had assumed scholarships were only for students who had excellent grades and came from poor families.
So every time they went on a date, she would choose cheaper places and would occasionally be the one to pay.
And then...
Ahem.
Every time he got a room, he would choose one with a king-sized bed that cost five or six hundred yuan a night.
She had thought he was just doing it to save face, so she’d tactfully brought it up. Upon hearing this, Mortimer Quincy had just laughed, pinning her beneath him and asking, "Who told you I was short on cash?"
Not long after that, Mortimer Quincy took her to his family home. The Quincy Family was even wealthier back then, having just developed a massive real estate project in the city.
In the end, it was her turn to feel "insecure" about being poor.
Mortimer Quincy watched his wife’s adorably foolish expression and his lips quirked into a half-smile. "Honey, no need to be jealous. It’s all yours."
Holly Winslow snapped out of it and, without a hint of modesty, giggled. "Of course it’s mine. I’ll even give you two hundred yuan for an allowance."
"Forget the allowance. Just let me have a few extra kisses," Mortimer Quincy said, wiggling his eyebrows.
Holly Winslow: "..."
’In your dreams.’
During the second period on Friday, the school assembly began.
All the students were in their school uniforms. Holly Winslow, Mortimer Quincy, and the others sat on the school’s stage behind five tables.
They were seated according to their rankings, with Zeke Zane, the unfortunate third wheel, stuck between Mortimer Quincy and Holly Winslow.
Zeke Zane: "..."
’If the school hadn’t required it, he really wouldn’t want to be sitting here.’
Pantheon let out a shameless laugh.
’Looks like getting fourth place isn’t so bad after all,’ he thought. ’At least it’s better than getting tortured in second place.’
The principal’s speech lasted half an hour and was full of nothing but platitudes about life. Gabe Chaucer spoke next, for another half an hour.
Holly Winslow was bored but didn’t dare to fidget, since there were cameras filming them. She glanced at Mortimer Quincy, who was sitting perfectly straight, the very picture of a model student.
She pursed her lips and scoffed inwardly. ’Take off that uniform, and he’s a total beast.’
Just then, Mortimer Quincy looked over. Their eyes met. He lifted his chin slightly, his soft voice laced with indulgence. "Holly, behave yourself. Everyone’s watching."
"You can stare all you want when we’re back in the classroom."
Holly Winslow: "..."
Her ears turned red.
’Damn it, Mortimer Quincy! Can you not be so shameless in front of everyone?’
Zeke Zane: "..."
’Has anyone considered my feelings?’
’Principal! Dean! Teacher! There are students dating right here! Aren’t you going to do something about it?!’
When it was Mortimer Quincy’s turn to share his study tips, he got up and walked to the center of the stage, drawing cheers from the girls in the audience.
He raised a hand to adjust the microphone, his voice light. "Hello, everyone. I’m Mortimer Quincy. I hope you all study hard and aim high." With that, he bowed and returned to his seat.
Holly Winslow: "..."
’And here I thought we had to prepare a long speech,’ she thought. ’I wrote over a thousand words.’
No wonder Mortimer Quincy had laughed several times while watching her write it during self-study last night.
Seeing Holly Winslow’s clueless expression, Pantheon whispered, "Holly, do you know what Mortimer Quincy said the first time he shared his study tips?"
Holly Winslow leaned in, blinking her big eyes curiously. "What?"
Pantheon started laughing before he even answered. "He said, ’The test wasn’t hard, so there’s nothing to share.’ Later, Old Shaw told him he couldn’t say that and had to be more tactful. That’s why he says what he does now."
Holly Winslow couldn’t help but laugh. She had to admit Mortimer Quincy had a real gift for academics. Not like her—if she stopped paying attention in math for even a few minutes, she’d be completely lost.
Once Zeke Zane was on stage, Mortimer Quincy, in full view of everyone, moved into Zeke’s seat. He glared at Pantheon, looking for all the world like a husband who’d just caught his wife cheating. "You looking to get on my bad side?"
Pantheon: "..."
’Mortimer Quincy, you’re such an ass!’
He quickly scooted his chair closer to the boy on his right. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Holly Winslow: "..."
She turned to look at Mortimer Quincy and muttered, "Why did you move over here? Go back to your seat. It won’t look good if people see this."
"What’s not good about it? So it’s fine for you to be talking to other guys?" Mortimer Quincy’s voice was thick with jealousy.
Holly Winslow: "..."
She couldn’t resist tugging on his earlobe. "Mortimer Quincy, if you keep talking nonsense, I’m going to rip your ear off."
"Honey, look across from us," Mortimer Quincy said with a low chuckle.
Holly Winslow looked up and her gaze met the Dean of Students’, who was sitting opposite them. "..."
She primly retracted her hand.
When Zeke Zane finished his speech and returned, he saw his seat was taken. "..."
Resigned to his fate, he sat down in the first seat.
Holly Winslow went on stage, took out her prepared speech, and froze when she unfolded it.
An extra line had been added to the top of her speech: "Go get ’em, honey! You’re the best! Hubby loves you."
"..."
She covered the top of the page with her hand, holding the speech awkwardly. "Hello, everyone. My name is Holly Winslow. For this month’s exam..."
After returning to her seat, she hissed through gritted teeth, "Mortimer Quincy, have you lost your mind?"
Mortimer Quincy raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence. "You don’t like it, honey?"
Holly Winslow: "..."
The speeches ended at 11:40. The principal came back on stage to present Mortimer Quincy with his three-thousand-yuan award.
After accepting it, Mortimer Quincy immediately handed it to Holly Winslow, who stuffed it into her pocket and clutched it protectively.
Pantheon and Zeke Zane, unaware that Mortimer Quincy had already handed the money over to the "national treasury," didn’t hold back. Zeke Zane said, "Mortimer Quincy, you’re treating us to a meal."
Mortimer Quincy raised an eyebrow but didn’t agree as he usually would. He looked at Holly Winslow, whose hand was still clutching her pocket. "I’ve already handed the money over to my girlfriend. You’ll have to ask her. I don’t have the authority to decide."
He even sounded a little proud.
Please note the emphasis on the word "girlfriend."
Zeke Zane and Pantheon: "..."
Pantheon rubbed his stomach dramatically and let out a burp. "I’m already full."
