Reborn with my killer's looks-Chapter 53: What do you have to say for yourself
Milo’s face cycled through emotions like a slot machine.
"But how." Her voice was thin. "I hated you for being an Achusoi." The tone of her voice gradually increased,
"But now I just hate you even more." She said with a shout. "I’m going to make you pay for this!!" The last words that came out were with a scream.
Huey adjusted the position of the camera, making sure it captured Milo’s face clearly.
"This is going out live," he said calmly. "Thousands of people are watching right now. So I’d suggest you answer my questions truthfully."
Milo’s eyes widened and her tone hushed a bit. "Live? No, wait."
"First question."
"Did you spread rumors about Huey Cross being involved with drug distribution on campus?"
"I—" She tried to resist, her entire body shaking due to her futile efforts.
But Aletheia’s Chain only glowed brighter.
The compulsion to speak truth overwhelmed her.
"YES!" The word burst out of her like she’d been holding her breath. "Yes, I spread the rumors! I made the posts! I paid people to put up flyers!"
Huey nodded and moved to the next question.
"Did you do this to frame Huey Cross?"
"YES! I wanted everyone to start hating him as much as I did, I wanted him to lose everything!"
Alessia, slumped against the wall managed a weak smile.
"Next question," Huey said. "Were you involved in the kidnapping of Virelia students?"
Milo bit her tounge to avoid speaking, but blood only welled up in her mouth and the truth came anyway.
"Yes..... I was." A tear ran down her cheek but her expression was still filled with rage.
"Who’s running the operation?" Huey asked. "Who organized the kidnappings?"
"I don’t know his real name!" Milo shouted.
"Describe him?"
"He always wore a white mask with a smiley face! That’s all I ever saw!"
"What was the purpose of the kidnappings?"
"Experiments! They were testing something on Topplers! Some kind of serum! I don’t know the details."
"How many students did they take?"
"About seventy."
"How many are still alive?"
Milo’s face went pale.
"I... I don’t..."
The whip glowed brighter and the need to comply only intensified.
"Twenty!" Milo screamed. "Only twenty are still alive! The rest either died or reborn as zombies after the experiments!"
Alessia already knew this but she still fidgeted at the sound of it.
Even Huey’s composed expression cracked slightly.
But he took a breath and steadied himself.
"Final question. Did anyone force you to do this? Or did you do it willingly?"
"I—" Milo’s voice broke. "I chose this. Every action was a necessary risk toward ruining the life of Huey Cross."
"And you’d do it again?" Said Huey with a smirk on his face.
"YES!" She was crying now, but the rage was still there. "Yes, I’d do it all again because he don’t deserve to be happy."
Desperation entered her eyes and she screamed out
"HUEY CROSS IS THE BLUE REAPER! Everyone watching this now knows! You’re exposed! You’re finished!"
Huey smiled and reached over to stop the recording.
"About that," he said calmly. "It’s not actually live. I lied."
Milo’s face went from triumphant to horrified in an instant.
"What?"
"Exactly what I said." Huey picked up the camera. "I’ll be editing out the part where you just happened to reveal my identity. Technology is wonderful like that."
"you manipulative pig.?!"
"I’m a vigilante, not a saint." Huey pulled his mask back on and the blue angular design covered his face once more. "You really thought I’d broadcast my identity to thousands of people on purpose?"
Milo’s mouth opened and closed like a fish.
"No... no, you can’t—"
"Your confession will go public. The evidence against you is overwhelming, your reputation will be destroyed and your future practically gone."
He walked over to where Alessia sat and lifted her carefully into his arms.
"I’ll be going, Zelda will be here with the arcanum soon."
He steadied himself and carried Alessia toward the door "Sit tight till then."
"Wait!" Milo screamed. "Even if it costs me my life." She said with her face down in a hushed tone.
"I’ll make sure you suffer. You useless..." She raised her head up to continue screaming but the her breadth caught and her expression softened.
The Blue Reaper paused at the doorway and turned back to look at her.
The look in his eyes held so much pain, suffering and anger.
Milo didn’t know why, but she could see it all and clearly he held a lot more malice than her.
He stood there and stared for a moment, practically waiting for her finish the sentence but Milo could only stare back with scared eyes.
And then he left.
Milo sat alone in the chair, still bound by the golden whip.
The glow had faded slightly but it still held her tight.
Her Mother’s voice echoed in her memory.
"Milo, please. Don’t let revenge consume you. It’ll destroy you from the inside out."
"I’m fine, Mom. I’m just... processing."
"No you’re planning something. I can see it in your eyes."
"Marco deserved better."
"Marco would want you to live for her too. Not throw your life away for vengeance."
Tears streamed down Milo’s face now.
"I’m sorry, Mom. I’m so sorry."
Footsteps echoed from the doorway and Milo’s head snapped up.
A figure stepped out of the shadows wearing a white mask with a simple smiley face drawn on it.
"You failed to obey my orders." The figure said.
"You didn’t return Alessia. I specifically told you to let her go and not target her." The masked figure walked closer. "Yet you disobeyed."
"I just wanted to hurt him! I wanted...."
"You wanted someone to blame instead of facing your problems yourself." The figure stopped in front of her. "But look where that got you."
He reached down and removed the whip. It fell to the ground and the golden light faded
Her arms were suddenly free and she Milo gasped.
"Why?" she asked. "Why are you letting me go?"
"Because the Blue Reaper already did enough damage. The confession will destroy you publicly so you’re finished either way." The masked figure turned to leave. "I’m not completely without mercy."
"What do I do now?"
"Go home. Ask your family for forgiveness."
He for the doorway and he was gone.
Milo sat there for a long moment with tired and resent filled eyes before turning to leave.
Arcanum vehicles surrounded the cathedral. Lights were flashing and there were agents everywhere.
Zelda stood at the entrance and she looked exhausted.
