Reborn with the Conquest System-Chapter 44: Bad dog
’Yo, system?’ Magnus asked after another three orcs had been turned into xp.
[Hm?]
’Do you have the option to add way points or something to the map?’
[Uh... I didn’t think of that, one moment.]
’Hah?’
[System update received, way points have been unlocked.]
[There, fixed.]
’... So you’re just someone watching me while the system itself is not sentient?’ Magnus asked, baffled.
[Yup.]
’I... Okay whatever. Nothing really changes since I guessed there was someone watching me the whole time. Anyway, thank you.’
Opening the map, he now saw three different types of way point functions.
A single dot, a line, and a general area.
Marking the general area where the nearby camps are supposed to be, he roughly looted the entire or village. Much to his disappointment, most of the orcs houses just had some scraps of food only.
The only two houses that yielded something decent were the shamans house, that was the only painted house in the village, and the temple.
From the shamans house, he had obtained a spirit stone of unknown grade, meaning he could become a summoner as soon as his mana pool was opened.
’I could unlock it now since it’s only 4 points for both but... I don’t want to waste points just yet, even if I can turn the other skills into points.’
As for his other loot, that was the one that excited Magnus the most.
Leather pants and a scrappy leather tunic, taken from what seemed to be an unlucky farmer.
’I finally don’t have to run around almost naked anymore!’
Grabbing a leather pouch, he shoved in a spirit stone and began running towards the mountain. Unlike before, the journey was far more exhausting as he had to swim against the current for the final stretch.
Emerging in the underground cavern, his limbs ached as if on fire. Slowly, he dragged himself across the ground as he hoisted himself on the rocky beach.
’Shit idea... Very shit idea...’
Lying on the ground, he decided not to waste anymore time.
’Hey... System...’
[Hm?]
’How does converting skills into points work since I have a bunch of them I don’t want to buy.’
[Depending on the value of the skill, you can get up to half of it’s initial cost. However, do be wary of selling skills as once sold they cannot be earned again! You would need to naturally unlock them, and most are impossible to unlock naturally!]
’I see... Then get rid of everything except mana related skills.’
[Are you sure? This decision is final.]
’I am sure.’
[17 points have been refunded.]
[23 points total available.]
Seeing his new total skill amount caused Magnus to break into a smile. Resting for a while, he made his way back through the tunnels, heading to the forge.
"Ah, my lord, urgent news!" a shout echoed from behind, and Magnus saw a dwarf running towards him.
"You are?"
"Curin, my lord, one of the scouts on watch duty right now. We’ve sighted a few orc scouts the last few hours. Most kept at bay, but some of them were bold enough to run up to the walls." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"immediately report to me if there’s more than just scouts, and let both leaders know about this too. Dismissed." A thoughtful look appeared on Magnus face, as he changed his destination to his room.
’If there’s another battle I’m confident I can hold them off, but the issue is if they manage to kill my subjects—that alone could spell doom for me.’
[24 days remaining.]
’NO, it would definetely spell doom for me! Why is it so hard to recruit people in this... Wait... People?’
His gaze turned sharp, and before he could ask the question.
[Your plan would work.]
"Ha... Hahahahaha HAHAHAHAHA! I’M A BLOODY GENIUS!"
’Why didn’t I realise the wording of this sooner— No, I can’t waste my time here! I need to find the closest orc strongholds and start as soon as possible!’
He shot up from the bed, running towards the forge where Thorgim and Volund were.
BANG!
He crashed through the door, his bloodshot eyes staring at the two dwarves.
"Volund, Thorgim! We need to talk, NOW! EVERYONE ELSE, OUT!"
Every other dwarf scurried away from the forge without hesitation, leaving the two shaking dwarves behind.
"Does this keep have a proper prison? One where we could contain a thousand orcs and they wouldn’t be capable of breaking out!?"
"A thousand orcs... Why?" Volund asked, trembling.
"It’s a long story but the gist is—I have an idea! So do we have it or not!?"
"We do, we do! Maybe not a thousand but around 800 orcs could be thrown into the cells of the dungeon and they would never get to escape!" Thorgim replied with confidence.
"Great, great! Then—Let’s begin the hunt, have the prison ready as soon as possible!"
He stormed out of the forge, leaving the two confused dwarves behind.
’The chances of the camps having humans are miniscule, and there’s maybe 5 to 10 per camp from what the orcs have told me. So if I can’t get enough humans, the orcs will fill the quota!’
Afterwards, Magnus spent patrolling together with the dwarves on watch duty, trying to find any orc scouts.
The first hour passed, the second, the third...
Finally, on the fourth hour when the sun was high up in the sky...
A dwarf discretely made his way over to Magnus, gently tapping him on the arm. Turning to look, the dwarf pointed at a nearby rock.
’There’s nothing there?’ he taurned to look at the dwarf, confused.
Putting up his hands on his ears, the dwarf snarled as he imitated an animal.
’A wolf?’
He looked back at the rock, carefully taking in every detail in the surrounding area. It was only after a few minutes passed that he realised the rock was moving around, albeit very slowly.
’Rocks don’t move like that, found you!’
Not hesitating anymore, he vaulted over the wall, running towards the suspicious ’rock’.
With a snarl, the rock began to charge towards him, revealing itself to be a silver colored wolf. An orc rode on it, with its entire skin having been painted a bright gray for blending in.
Seeing the wolf open it’s jaws wide, Magnus hands grabbed them. Locked in a vice like grip, it couldn’t move anywhere, thrashing about.
"Bad dog!"
He slammed it to the ground, before charging towards the orc on its back.
