Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 437: A World Without You (1)
The scenery shifted again; this time, Adrienne saw Lennox seated while dressed in mourning attire. She initially thought that he and Gavin were holding a funeral for her and Dylan, but she staggered back as soon as she saw the picture of the deceased individual on display. It wasn’t her or Dylan. It was none other than Gavin.
"No... how could this happen?" Adrienne whispered, her voice filled with disbelief and shock. She never thought that Gavin would be the one to end up dead.
Did something happen? Did Gavin encounter a fatal accident? Or was it something more sinister?
Adrienne was saddened to hear the news of his death. She opened her mouth and found herself rendered speechless by the shocking revelation. Adrienne never thought that Gavin would die, leaving Lennox beyond devastated. Lennox was seated without a care around him, and Adrienne broke down into tears as she looked at her husband’s broken state.
Lennox. Her beloved. The love of his life had just received a tragic blow in his life. Gavin was his best friend and confidant, and he was forever gone. Adrienne wondered how Lennox could deal with this overwhelming loss and grief. She knew that Gavin’s death would leave a void in Lennox’s life that could never be filled.
As she watched him sit there, seemingly unaffected, she couldn’t help but worry about his emotional well-being. Adrienne knew that supporting Lennox through this difficult time would be crucial for his healing process, but she also understood that everyone grieves differently. Gavin’s death was a devastating blow to Lennox.
"I heard he jumped into the bridge out of depression." Adrienne heard one of the guests say. "It seemed Gavin Si had been dealing with depression for some time now and chose to take his own life to put an end to it."
Adrienne didn’t need to ask what caused Gavin’s depression. Not only did he lose Myrtle, but he also lost their son, Dylan. Adrienne wasn’t sure how long had passed since her and Dylan’s deaths, and she could only surmise that it had been a year or more.
Adrienne couldn’t imagine the pain Gavin must have been enduring. It must have been hard for Gavin to deal with losing his son. She wished she could offer some comfort or support. It was her fault. Gavin wouldn’t have lost Dylan this way if she had tried better. After all these years, Gavin never had the chance to see and be with his son.
"I heard Gavin lost his son in an accident. It’s such a tragic and heartbreaking situation."
"I never knew he had a son." Another one commented.
"I heard he used to date Alistair Han’s stepsister, but the Han family was against the relationship and made sure they never saw each other again."
"That poor child must have gone through so much pain."
"The Han family lied to Gavin." Adrienne heard a familiar voice and saw that it was Kristoff. "They claimed the child died in childbirth, but the truth is that they refused to acknowledge the existence of the child. Gavin begged them to allow him to see Myrtle and the child, but they refused to let him near them."
Adrienne gritted her teeth. So this was the case, she thought. She couldn’t believe the cruelty they had shown towards Gavin and Dylan. Alistair must have known, so he also confined Dylan with him, never allowing the child to step outside.
Because Gavin was still grieving, he had withdrawn from friends and family, isolating himself from the world. Since he was an illegitimate child of the Si family and had no close relative to turn to for support, Gavin felt utterly alone in his grief. Lennox was responsible for carrying out his final wishes and ensuring he received a proper farewell when he died.
Adrienne had never seen Lennox this broken. It seemed he had lost a part of himself along with Gavin. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of emptiness in their shared loss. She wanted to embrace him to assure Lennox that he was not alone in his grief, but she couldn’t. She had already died in this lifetime and couldn’t do anything to lessen his pain or his burden.
When everyone had already left after Gavin’s remains were put to rest, Lennox stayed behind, staring at the gravestone in silence, feeling the weight of his loss heavy on his shoulders. He knew that life would never be the same again. Kristoff joined him and stood before Gavin’s gravestone, quietly paying his respects.
"Gavin wouldn’t want to see you like this, Nox. Don’t blame yourself. You didn’t cause this tragedy." Kristoff said, placing a comforting hand on Nox’s shoulder.
Lennox remained silent. As Kristoff continued to stand by Lennox, a bitter chill crept over him. It was as if he was seeking solace for Gavin’s absence, but nothing could fill the void left in their hearts.
Lennox closed his eyes, allowing the soft breeze to soothe and remind him of his memories with Gavin. He had been there from the start, through the highs and lows, and he couldn’t help but feel guilty. If only he had supported Gavin through his darkest moments, perhaps things would be different. But life was too unpredictable, and sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can’t save everyone you love.
There was a lump in Kristoff’s throat as he spoke, his voice barely audible over the whispers of the wind.
"You are not alone, Lennox. I’m here for you, and we’ll get through this together. You’ve been there for me in my time of need, and now it’s my turn to do the same for you."
With a heavy sigh, Lennox managed a weak smile. He appreciated Kristoff’s words but was deep in too much grief to fully believe that things would ever get better.
"Thank you, Kris. That means a lot, but I need time to be alone."
Despite Kristoff’s comforting words, Lennox couldn’t shake the immense guilt that consumed him. He had always felt responsible for Gavin’s well-being, and he couldn’t help but blame himself for not being there for Gavin. However, he also knew that Gavin was too broken when he lost Myrtle and Dylan. He had lost the will to live and wanted nothing more than to follow them in the afterlife.
