Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 480: Break Free (2)
Adrienne sat patiently outside the interrogation room as Myrtle gave her statement about the assault she received the other day from her stepbrother, Alistair Han. With Alistair dead, the media was in a frenzy to uncover the truth behind his sudden death. The press speculated about possible motives and suspects in his death.
It wasn’t long before the news of Alistair’s involvement in illegal activities started circulating. It immediately put the Han family and their company under intense scrutiny from the public and law enforcement agencies.
She’d told the police the needed details, including showing them several emails and calls she had received from Alistair Han over the past two years. The messages also showed Alistair’s deep hatred for her husband, threatening to harm him physically.
Adrienne never responded to his attempts at communication, but she documented each of them, knowing she may need the evidence in the future. She’d never thought she would use them to save her husband from being convicted of a crime he didn’t commit.
No. Adrienne refused to believe Lennox had planned to kill Alistair from the beginning. She wanted to think that Alistair fell to his death by accident. However, she was also aware that if Lennox had a chance to save Alistair’s life, he wouldn’t do it.
Adrienne knew her husband wasn’t a saint. After everything Alistair put her through, she couldn’t bring herself to feel any remorse for his death, and she couldn’t blame Lennox for not wanting to save him.
As the media frenzy surrounding Alistair’s death showed no signs of slowing down any time soon, Adrienne found herself caught in a web of conflicting emotions. On one hand, she despised Alistair for the torment he had put her and her husband through.
His abusive behavior had left scars that ran deep, wounds that would never truly heal. She couldn’t bring herself to mourn his passing or feel any remorse. But on the other hand, Adrienne knew Lennox’s choice had consequences. If it were revealed that he deliberately let Alistair fall to his death, their lives would be torn apart.
Adrienne was determined to stand up for her husband regardless of what happened. No matter how the world perceived Lennox, she would be by his side, ready to face any consequences that came their way. Lennox didn’t hesitate to put himself in danger to protect her; now it was her turn to protect him.
When Myrtle stepped out of the room, Adrienne sighed in relief. Hunter brought her home, and they were greeted by Noah, Scarlett, and Sam, who came home as soon as she heard that Lennox was in the hospital.
"Mom!" Noah rushed towards Adrienne and hugged her tightly. "Are you okay? I’ve been so worried."
Adrienne returned the embrace, her heart swelling with love for her children. "I’m doing better, Noah."
Sam and Scarlett also approached, their faces a mix of concern and relief. Scarlett wrapped her arms around Adrienne, tears welling in her eyes.
"I’m so glad you’re okay, Addie."
Adrienne looked at her husband’s siblings; a hint of guilt flashed in her eyes, knowing she was the reason for their distress.
"I know you all have been through a lot, and I’m sorry for the turmoil we’ve caused. But I want you to know that even though things might seem uncertain, we will face this together as a family." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"Is Nox alright?" Sam asked worriedly. They heard that their older brother was confined at the hospital, as well as Alistair Han’s death, on the news.
Adrienne took a deep breath, composing herself before answering Sam’s question. She couldn’t bring herself to reveal the truth about Lennox’s involvement in Alistair’s death, not yet. It was too dangerous, and they needed time to gather more evidence to protect him. But she knew that they couldn’t keep the truth hidden forever.
"Sam, Scarlett," Adrienne began, her voice steady but filled with honesty. "Lennox is at the hospital. He might need to stay there for a few days."
Scarlett’s eyes widened with concern. "What happened? Is he hurt?"
Adrienne nodded. "He suffered some injuries during an altercation with Alistair. It was self-defense, but things escalated quickly."
Noah interjected, his voice filled with worry. "Is he going to be okay?"
Adrienne held her son close, trying to muster her strength to face this new challenge. "I don’t know, Noah," she whispered. "But we’re going to do everything we can to make sure he is. I promise."
She wouldn’t allow Alistair to mess up their lives, even after his death. Alistair had already taken everything from her previous life, and Adrienne wouldn’t let him take any more.
Adrienne returned to the hospital when morning arrived. She saw her husband finally awake, and he was conversing with Gavin. They talked in low voices and stopped when they noticed Adrienne entering the room.
Lennox’s face lit up with relief as he saw his wife. "Addie."
"Hey," she said softly, holding his hand. "How are you feeling?"
Lennox smiled weakly, his eyes filled with gratitude. He was relieved that Adrienne chose to be with him despite knowing what he’d done.
"Better now that you’re here. But I won’t lie, it’s been tough," he replied. "Gavin here has been keeping me company."
Adrienne turned to Gavin, expressing her gratitude with a nod. "Thank you for everything, Gavin. I don’t know what we would have done without you."
Gavin gave her a reassuring smile. "It’s no problem at all, Adrienne. I’m just doing my part to help."
Gavin stood up from his chair and nodded at Adrienne. "I’ll give you two some privacy," he said gently before leaving the room.
As they were finally alone, Adrienne leaned closer to Lennox, studying his bruised face with concern.
"No, Len. Don’t apologize. You did nothing wrong. You did everything to protect me. Alistair would have killed you if he got the chance."
Lennox nodded. "I can’t help but wonder if there was another way, but when I thought about how much he hurt you in the past, it gave me the will I need to continue resisting him. You are free from him now, Addie, so I hope you will also forgive yourself and move on from this. But I know how much he tormented you, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure he doesn’t cause any more harm to you."
Adrienne wiped a tear from her cheek and smiled weakly at her husband.
"I won’t forget what Alistair did to us, but I don’t want you to become like him, Len. I’m worried that I would push you to commit more atrocities for my sake, and I don’t want that."
Lennox looked at her in the eyes and understood her concern. Alistair told him he wasn’t any different from him, and perhaps he was right. However, the thought of Adrienne hating him and leaving him because of his actions left a bitter taste in his mouth. He knew he needed to change if he wanted his marriage with Adrienne to work out and to be with her.
"No more, Addie. I’ won’t do it anymore." He assured her. "I will do whatever it takes to make things right."
