Chapter 10: Chapter 10: If You Still Care, Why Get Divorced?

The sounds more or less drifted into the car.

Lily Sinclair had completely snapped out of her earlier shock, turning back with deep concern to Raine, "Sister, maybe we should go back?"

Their aunt had specially instructed that if the atmosphere became too tense, they should head back first!

After all, no matter what, they couldn’t let their cousin be upset.

Yet, Raine Sinclair seemed wholly indifferent to the scene before her. Her delicate face was calm.

Being surrounded by reporters wasn’t something new for her.

But perhaps the questions this time would be fiercer and more piercing.

Considering she had already been divorced, deeply hurt by the one she loved the most, and disgracefully driven out of her home, then what’s left that she couldn’t overcome?

"Open the door." Raine Sinclair glanced outside the car window, coldly tossing out these two words.

"Sister..." Lily hesitated, tugging at Raine’s hand but was met with Raine’s reassuring grip and a gentle pat, "Don’t worry, there’s nothing to fear."

With that, she turned and got out of the car first.

"Click!"

The moment the car door opened, a swarm of reporters rushed up.

Questions and the sound of camera shutters nearly swallowed Raine Sinclair whole.

"Click, click!"

"Ms. Sinclair, how do you view your ex-husband’s infidelity and the fact that the mistress is already pregnant?"

"Rumor has it that Mr. Hawthorne gave you a tremendous amount of alimony, is that true?"

"You couldn’t manage your marriage, do you have the confidence to lead the Sinclair Group to prosperity?"

These reporters really were bold with their questions.

Even without getting out of the car, Lily merely listening to these questions, felt a sting in her heart.

She was even... a bit reluctant to get out and face them, simply shrinking back inside the car, her mind blank.

And just then, she clearly heard her cousin’s exceptionally calm voice—

"Everyone should know, Sinclair Group has a strong financial base, we’re not relying on that bit of alimony to get by. Also, others’ infidelity is none of my business, but my company is mine to manage. Sinclair Group is about to conduct a new round of construction bids, cordially inviting capable and interested companies to join the bidding event at Sinclair Group on the 18th of this month."

With her final sentence, Raine Sinclair looked directly at the camera, offering a poised and gentle smile.

Lily was stunned, and so were the reporters.

The intent was to embarrass Raine Sinclair, but who knew she wasn’t afraid at all, not only answered gracefully but also plugged an advertisement for herself?

Nobody noticed the two figures on the second-floor window witnessing the entire scene.

"Leon, you’ve just returned to the country, you probably don’t know yet, do you? The Hawthorne Family’s member was caught cheating and got divorced. Look, the woman down there is his ex-wife, named Raine Sinclair."

The speaker was a man dressed in a burgundy suit, paired with a light-colored bow tie. His hair highlighted with a styled fringe, giving him an air of unrestrained arrogance. He was Anton Kincaid, a notorious playboy in Sedonia.

The man standing next to him was the newly returned eldest son of the Grant Family, Leon Grant.

He squinted, taking in the figure below—the one meant to be ridiculed yet exuding a firm dignity. A faint smile played on his thin lips, "She’s quite an extraordinary woman, showing not a trace of sadness, yet using the situation to advertise her company’s event."

"Exactly..." Anton finally came to his senses, also taking another look at Raine Sinclair below, "She’s quite beautiful too, pity she’s divorced."

Leon followed his gaze downwards, his unhidden gaze fixed on Raine Sinclair, reflecting seven parts appreciation, three parts curiosity.

Perhaps sensing something, Raine Sinclair unconsciously glanced upward as she turned away.

In an instant, two pairs of eyes collided in the deep night!

Everything around seemed to freeze at that moment.

Some strange, indescribable sensation quietly began to flow.

After offering a polite, faint smile, Raine Sinclair was the first to look away.

But she didn’t expect that in the next second, Jonas Hawthorne would appear right in front of her, standing roughly seven or eight paces away.

He was looking at her too.

In the space between their four eyes, the air seemed to freeze.

Although Raine Sinclair had prepared herself to encounter Jonas Hawthorne here, the suddenness of their meeting still made her heart tense up a bit.

Upon seeing her exquisite and not at all weary face, a tinge of displeasure crossed Jonas Hawthorne’s dark eyes before he looked up at Leon Grant.

By the second Raine shifted her gaze, Leon Grant followed it and saw Jonas Hawthorne.

At this moment, the two men were sizing each other up simultaneously.

"Sizzle, sizzle!"

It was as if tiny sparks appeared!

The tension, brewing upward!

Leon Grant raised an eyebrow first, still puzzled by this sudden enmity, just in time to hear Anton exclaim, "Oh! It’s Jonas Hawthorne! He looks like he wants to eat someone!"

"Interesting." Leon Grant curved his lips, raising his right hand holding a high-stemmed wine glass, and toasted Jonas Hawthorne.

With a man’s intuition, he discerned that Jonas Hawthorne still cared for his ex-wife.

Otherwise, why would such a powerful killing aura stem from just a single glance exchanged with his ex-wife?

If he still cared, why divorce?

Hah...

Raine Sinclair didn’t care about the tension between the two men, her slightly lowered eyelids hushing her slightly turbulent heart.

Walking behind her, Lily also saw Jonas Hawthorne and was dumbfounded, grabbing Raine’s hand in a panic, "Sister, how... how did we run into him, what do we do now?"

"Let’s go, the reporters will follow soon," Raine Sinclair drew a deep breath and then headed towards the entrance of the banquet.

"Huh? Just like that?" Lily was still stunned, but her cousin was already walking ahead.

Unable to ask more, she hurriedly followed.

Almost simultaneously, Jonas Hawthorne drew back his gaze, looking straight ahead at Raine Sinclair walking towards him. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

The former Raine Sinclair, no matter the place or occasion, always awaited in Jonas Hawthorne’s view, her face blooming with expectancy and smiles.

Yet now, she didn’t even spare him a glance, eyes averted as if treating him as air, passing by without a moment’s pause.

At that moment, Jonas Hawthorne distinctly felt something within him slipping away.

Indescribable oppression, gloominess.

Nobody saw it, but as Raine Sinclair walked past Jonas Hawthorne with her usual calm, she quietly released the fist she had been clenching as soon as she was out of his sight...
