Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 146: Wanting to Be Close to Her
Raine Sinclair didn’t give him a pleasant look either and sneered coldly, "If you don’t find an excuse, your beloved muse might get so jealous she could drink a whole jar of vinegar. By then, I’m afraid there won’t be enough blood left in me!"
Knowing that Raine was still holding a grudge about what happened last time, Jonas Hawthorne lowered his gaze slightly, "I’m sorry."
"..." Raine never expected that the once arrogant Jonas Hawthorne could now utter these three words to her so casually. Her eyes flickered.
Recalling the advice her brother gave before he left, she cleared her throat and decided not to bicker with him.
Avoid stimulating him, or he might faint again later!
If that happened, who would sign for him? It would be such a hassle!
She didn’t want to take the blame for no reason!
Thinking this, Raine ignored him, turned around, and sat aside playing on her phone.
An entire night passed.
Finn Wyatt had completely disappeared. She asked him to help find Lily, but there hadn’t been any word from him.
Men really are unreliable!
Just as she was about to send Lily another message, a message from her came in unexpectedly.
[Sis, I’m sorry.]
The message was very short, just a few words, without the usual string of emojis.
Raine raised an eyebrow, wondering why so many people were apologizing to her today?
Jonas Hawthorne’s apology could be put into context, considering all the awful things he’d done before.
But why was Lily apologizing? She hadn’t done anything wrong...
Could it be because she disappeared last night and didn’t reply to messages?
Thinking this, Raine replied, [It’s okay. Did you go back by yourself last night?]
The message was sent out, but no reply came for a long time.
Lily Sinclair wrapped herself in a quilt, her eyes swollen.
Looking at her cousin’s concerned message on the screen, she just felt ashamed...
Including the messages Candace Ford had sent earlier, asking if she was satisfied with last night...
All of a sudden, her mind was overwhelmed with chaos.
She no longer knew what was right and what was wrong.
Or maybe, was there anything that could be salvaged?
Unfortunately, in this world, there are no do-overs. Everything that has happened, right or wrong, can no longer be changed.
——
When Raine put down her phone, she looked up to find Jonas Hawthorne looking at her.
She didn’t know how long he had been looking at her like that. Raine frowned and asked with a bit of a temper, "Why are you looking at me?"
She also couldn’t muster any kind attitude toward him.
It reminded her of how she used to cling to him, constantly calling him Jonas, Jonas, later growing fond of calling him "husband."
Now...
Even the way she addressed him was gone.
But even with her tone and attitude like that, Jonas Hawthorne wasn’t angry.
He kept looking at her, as if he were looking at a rare treasure.
"Raine." He opened his mouth, his voice hoarse.
"What?" Raine replied discontentedly.
If he wasn’t still a patient, she would have left long ago...
"How did Grandma get poisoned?" he asked.
Raine paused. She wasn’t too sure about this either, only knowing that her brother’s medical skills were exceptional and that he definitely wouldn’t make a mistake.
Discussing this with Jonas Hawthorne at this moment seemed a bit premature.
Thinking it over, she answered, "We’ll find out when Grandma wakes up."
As she said this, she remembered Jordan Holden and told Jonas Hawthorne about the promise she made to him, reminding him, "I borrowed the blood filtration system, remember to return it to Uncle Holden. Also, he wants to discuss a collaboration with you, talk to him when you’re better."
"Alright." Jonas Hawthorne agreed readily without any objection.
"And don’t just focus on your own things lately, pay more attention to Grandma," Raine added.
"Alright," Jonas Hawthorne continued to respond.
"Getting some glucose will help you recover faster, you don’t have to resist it so much."
"Alright."
It seemed no matter what Raine said, Jonas Hawthorne wouldn’t disagree, just nodding obediently like this.
This was entirely different from how Raine remembered him. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Before, he’d rarely come home, let alone listen to her talk.
Now, though, he seemed like a well-behaved child.
It was genuinely puzzling.
Could it be that he only knows this one word?
Raine couldn’t help but wonder if he had somehow become a bit slow after the explosion.
Otherwise, how to explain his completely different state at the moment?
With that thought, she asked, "What’s your name?"
"..." Jonas Hawthorne was silent, looking at her as if she were an idiot.
Raine felt as if she’d been looked down upon, awkwardly cleared her throat, then awkwardly scratched her nose, trying to ease the embarrassment.
Alright, just that look confirms his brain isn’t damaged.
After sitting quietly for a while, she suddenly heard the man on the hospital bed speak, "Raine, I’m thirsty."
Raine didn’t refuse, going to pour him a glass of water, but he couldn’t drink too much, so she had to help him take small sips.
After drinking the water, he said he was hungry and wanted something to eat.
Raine’s expression turned slightly unpleasant, but she didn’t say much, directly instructing a nurse to bring in some food he could eat.
Yet, this guy went even further, "I can’t use my hands, you feed me."
At this moment, any trace of a smile on Raine’s face completely vanished.
"Jonas Hawthorne, haven’t you had enough?!"
She glared at him, really unable to fathom how this man became so shameless after waking up from a coma?!
The nurse who delivered the meal hadn’t entirely left yet, and hearing this made her so shocked that she almost dropped the tray she was holding!
Goodness...
This out-of-state expert must be something else, daring to scold Mr. Hawthorne!
What’s more, Mr. Hawthorne showed no temper at all?
He seemed to even enjoy it...
Whatever the case, this was no place to linger!
The nurse hurried away.
And Jonas Hawthorne didn’t care if his behavior was appropriate; he only knew he wanted Raine Sinclair to stay.
He wanted to talk to her.
To be close to her.
At the moment of the explosion, he clearly remembered the only person in his mind was Raine.
"I’m hungry." He looked at her and spoke again.
To Raine’s ears, this sounded like a different kind of pleading.
She lowered her gaze to Jonas Hawthorne’s hands.
Left hand receiving an IV, right hand clamped with the ECG monitor, indeed he had no way to feed himself.
Reluctantly, she rubbed her forehead, "I’ll call the nurse to feed you."
Saying this, she turned to leave.
But just as she moved her feet, she heard the man behind her say, "If it’s not you feeding me, I won’t eat."
"..." Raine was caught off guard, nearly tripping over her feet!!
A storm brewed in her mind instantly; did she just hear that correctly?!
She turned back in utter shock, meeting Jonas Hawthorne’s eyes filled with tender affection!
Her heart, in that instant, seemed to skip a beat.
The surroundings seemed to blur.
Raine heard her own voice trembling, "Are... are you okay?"
