Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 2: Farewell, Jonas Hawthorne
Everyone held their breath, utterly shocked as Raine Sinclair got into the car and sped away.
"What’s going on? Who is this lady from the house next door?"
"Look at that car, it must be worth a fortune..."
"Could she be from some wealthy family?"
The chatter was left behind by Raine Sinclair.
After getting in the car, she wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, along with the years wasted on Jonas Hawthorne.
Goodbye, Jonas Hawthorne.
We are at the end of our road.
The scenery speeding past the window was just like her past ties with Jonas Hawthorne...
——
Sinclair Family.
As Raine Sinclair stepped through the door, the whole family gathered around her.
Her mother, Sharon Jennings, rushed forward, grabbing her daughter’s hand, her eyes red.
"Raine, are you okay? Don’t be upset, with your dad and me here, you don’t need to worry about anything!"
"Mom..." Raine Sinclair called out with trembling lips, finally unable to hold back her tears which fell in heavy drops.
Her father, Evan Sinclair, also came over, patting her on the shoulder, "You can stay here from now on, I’ll take care of you!"
With one sentence, he gave Raine Sinclair the greatest support.
She felt a pang of regret, for not listening to her parents back then and insisting on marrying Jonas Hawthorne...
Back then, she was truly fearless for the sake of love.
Now she realized that only family would love her unconditionally.
"Alright, Raine, you’re probably tired, aren’t you? Mom knows you always enjoy a milk bath when you come back from a trip; it’s ready for you. Go wash away the bad luck!"
"Thank you, Mom." Raine Sinclair nodded with a choked voice and followed the maid upstairs.
——
The large bathtub was filled with milk transported from Zephira, topped with a thin layer of rose petals, exuding a faint fragrance.
The maid beside her spoke excitedly, "Miss, you always loved milk baths when you were home! As soon as the master and madam heard you were coming home, they had us prepare it, saying it would wash away bad luck for you!"
"It’s needed," Raine Sinclair nodded with a smile.
It’s still best to be home.
As she prepared to undress, her actions suddenly froze. Instead, she said, "Forget it, I’ll just take a quick shower."
"Why? Was it not prepared well?" The maid seemed anxious, afraid she had done something wrong.
Raine Sinclair gently touched her stomach, "I’m pregnant."
Only two months along, not stable yet, so it’s best not to take a bath.
The maid was stunned.
Soon, Evan Sinclair and Sharon Jennings found out.
"Raine, why didn’t you tell us about such a big thing like being pregnant?" Sharon Jennings held Raine Sinclair’s hand, her brow furrowed.
"Mom, I just found out yesterday too." Raine Sinclair sighed softly.
She hadn’t even had the chance to tell Jonas Hawthorne...
Evan Sinclair was silent for a moment before asking, "Does the Hawthorne Family know?"
Raine Sinclair shook her head.
"Then don’t tell them! This child will take the Sinclair name and have nothing to do with the Hawthorne Family! My daughter, raised with so much care, was bullied at their house! Do they think we won’t love our daughter?" Sharon Jennings was furious. As a mother herself, how could she stand by and watch her daughter suffer like this?
Before she finished speaking, a maid rushed in from outside.
"Sir, madam, Mrs. Hawthorne is at the door, here to take Miss back!"
Sharon Jennings quickly stood up, her expression unpleasant, "They’re divorced, what’s the point of coming to take her back?!"
Evan Sinclair glanced at her, lowering his voice, "She’s still a senior from the Hawthorne Family, invite her in."
Then he turned to Raine Sinclair, "Daughter, tell me honestly, do you want to go back to the Hawthorne Family?"
No matter what, they must ask her opinion first.
"I’m not going back." Raine Sinclair shook her head, determined not to return.
"Alright," Evan Sinclair nodded thoughtfully, "You go upstairs and rest. You’re tired. I’ll handle the rest."
Raine Sinclair went upstairs.
Mrs. Hawthorne was fond of her. Had it not been for her efforts, Jonas Hawthorne would not have agreed to marry her.
But now, everything in the past is over.
After a comfortable afternoon nap, she woke up to the dusk.
Changing into a purple strapless dress the maid brought, Raine Sinclair spun around, admiring her perfect self in the mirror, she raised her eyebrows and asked, "Isn’t this too formal for a family dinner?"
"That’s what Madam instructed. Miss, you look stunning!" The maid’s eyes were filled with envy and admiration.
Raine Sinclair was puzzled until she went downstairs and saw the living room full of people of all ages...
"Surprise!"
Her mischievous cousin, Lily Sinclair, was there too, holding a popper, which she suddenly pulled open!
Countless colorful ribbons flew into the air, dispersing in front of Raine Sinclair.
"Congrats on your divorce, cousin! Welcome to your newfound freedom!"
With Lily Sinclair’s cheer, the other Sinclair relatives joined in the celebration!
Raine Sinclair’s corner of her eye twitched. Shouldn’t her family be a little sad about her divorce? 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Why are they even happier than when she got married?
Lily Sinclair’s mother, Fiona Calton, hurriedly supported Raine and glared at her daughter, "Stop fooling around! Your cousin is pregnant, don’t scare her!"
"Don’t worry, Mom. I know! I will protect my cousin’s baby! After all, I’m going to be the cool aunt!" Lily Sinclair promised, patting her chest.
Raine Sinclair was infected by their cheerfulness, smiling as she went over to sit down, "You promised, so be a good auntie."
"Of course!"
After having their fun with Lily Sinclair, Raine Sinclair sat down beside her parents, then asked, "Dad, the Hawthorne visitors this afternoon..."
Before she could finish, Evan Sinclair said, "They’ve been sent away. From now on, you don’t need to see anyone from the Hawthorne Family, just focus on taking care of yourself here."
Raine Sinclair furrowed her eyebrows. She would leave the Hawthorne issues aside, but...
"Dad, let me help out at the company. There are still several months before the baby arrives, staying at home is a bit boring."
"This..." Evan Sinclair was still concerned about her health.
Sharon Jennings then said, "Let her go, it’ll give her something to do."
Only then did Evan Sinclair nod, "Okay."
Before Raine Sinclair said anything, Lily Sinclair cheered beside her, "Yay! Cousin, hurry up and come back to take over the Sinclair Family business, let that heartless jerk regret it!"
Her words brought laughter to the entire living room.
Raine Sinclair also joined in the laughter, although there was a tinge of melancholy.
Heartless jerk, there couldn’t be a more fitting description for Jonas Hawthorne.
——
Night.
When Jonas Hawthorne returned with Candace Ford to the villa, which used to be brightly lit no matter how late it was, there was now only endless darkness and deathly silence.
