Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 4: I’m Pregnant with Jonas Hawthorne’s Child
At the same time, at the Hawthorne Tower.
The CEO’s office.
Leo Keane, who shamelessly came over early to get a contract signed, was just watching a livestream. The sound was coming from the iPad, and Raine’s voice instantly filled the whole office.
Leo froze for a moment, then his eyes widened as he craned his neck to look at Jonas Hawthorne, sitting behind the desk.
Jonas was obviously stiff all over; the pen that had been flying across the page just seconds ago came to a halt, his long fingers slowly turning white...
Leo mustered up the courage to ask, "You guys... things are getting pretty wild, huh?"
In Leo’s memory, Raine used to chase Jonas all over the place back in the day.
She’d warm him up when it was cold, fan him when it was hot.
He remembered one winter when Jonas was insanely busy, pulling all-nighters in the office almost every day.
Somehow, Raine had found out about it, and every night she’d bring him late-night snacks and wait for Jonas downstairs at the office.
Even as a sheltered heiress, she’d go that far—it moved Leo so much he almost cried.
She used to love him so much; how did things flip and now she’s calling him a dog?
What the hell happened in between?
Leo’s gossipy heart was itching like crazy!
No one knows how long Jonas sat there before he finally raised his eyes, shooting a chill across Leo’s face. "You got nothing better to do?"
Leo shrank back, rattled. He rushed to shake his head, "No, no, I’m busy! I’ll leave you to it!"
He grabbed his stuff and turned to make a run for it!
Yeah, today just isn’t the day—definitely not the day for contract talk!
Just as he reached the door, Candace Ford came walking in.
Leo looked like he’d seen a ghost...
He and Jonas had grown up together, best friends since childhood. He knew all about the first love drama, too.
He just didn’t expect this woman to be so bold, showing up at the company directly?
Candace, who was all dressed up cute, recognized Leo too. She flashed him a smile and greeted, "Young Master Keane, long time no see."
"Uh... yeah, yeah!" Leo nodded awkwardly, then heard Jonas ask from behind, "Why are you here?"
Clearly, that was aimed at Candace.
"Home was too stuffy, so I came to see you," Candace strolled forward with a smile, idly touching her belly, "I miss you, and the baby misses you too."
Leo turned his head and peeked at Jonas from behind Candace: Wait, seriously? She’s actually pregnant?
The next second, Jonas’s death-glare swept right over to Leo, practically suffocating him.
Leo shuddered all over, brain filling with question marks!
No way—can he read my mind too?
"Ahem! So... I’ll just..." head out then!
Leo coughed softly, but before he could finish his sentence, Jonas cut him off.
"Leo, about that contract you mentioned, it’s not impossible to sign."
"Huh?" Leo couldn’t even catch up; this guy’s train of thought was all over the place. How does he just switch topics like that?
Before he could keep puzzling it out, Jonas was already looking at Candace. "Go home first, Leo and I have stuff to discuss."
"But..." Candace’s smile froze instantly, and she glared daggers at Leo.
Leo sheepishly touched his nose, looking completely innocent.
It’s not like it was his idea to kick her out; why the death-glare?
"Head home." Jonas’s voice was low and heavy, tinged with annoyance.
Candace bit her lower lip hard, her eyes rimmed red in a flash, sounding pitiful, "Then the baby and I will wait for you to come home for dinner."
Leo actually got goosebumps hearing that!
He couldn’t say anything, so he just pretended to mess with his iPad.
Only then did he realize the Sinclair Enterprises interview was still streaming—
"Latest reports: Sinclair Enterprises’ Chairman has transferred all operational control to his only daughter, Raine! Looks like Ms. Sinclair was totally unaffected by her messy divorce—still Sedonia’s darling!"
The female host’s voice spread through the office, freezing the atmosphere completely.
Leo’s hand trembled and he quickly shut the iPad!
He squeezed his eyes closed in frustration; his scalp was tingling!
Why did I have to be so nosy—dammit!
Candace had heard it too. She rolled her eyes and suddenly let out a relieved sigh, "Seems like Raine’s doing pretty well now. That puts me at ease..."
Her tone carried a hint of apology.
Jonas didn’t respond, just looked up at her with a faint glance.
Candace caught on, nodded, and smiled, "You two go ahead and talk. I’ll get going."
The minute she stepped out, the gentle smile disappeared from her face—completely wiped away.
When she got downstairs to grab a cab, she dialed a reporter friend’s number.
"I’ve got a tip—yeah, I’m pregnant with Jonas Hawthorne’s child."
——
Back upstairs in the office.
Once Candace left, Leo’s nerves finally unwound all the way.
He snapped out of it, but that gossipy urge started simmering again.
"The rumor is, you dragged Candace out in the middle of the night and kicked your wife... uh, Raine, out. But looking at you now, you don’t seem all that crazy about Candace to me!"
Dudes can always spot these things with each other.
If Jonas was head over heels for Candace, he wouldn’t have just sent her on her way.
But if he didn’t love Candace, why’d they have a baby? What’s up with that?
"So... is this all just a big misunderstanding?" Leo squinted, curiosity written all over his face as he leaned closer to Jonas.
"What do you want to know?" Jonas raised his brows, eyes cold as he stared Leo down.
Leo’s chest tightened and he hurriedly shook his head, "Forget it, forget it. Your mess is way too complicated. Right now, I just want you to sign the contract!"
As he spoke, Leo placed a folder in front of Jonas, respectfully handing him a Montblanc pen.
Jonas didn’t bother looking at the contract, just glanced at Leo, his gaze deepening.
After a long silence, he finally spoke. "The Keane Family hasn’t gotten Sinclair’s signature yet, have they?"
"Huh?" Leo paused in surprise, then nodded, "No... I came to see you first!"
"Get Sinclair’s signature. Then come back to me." Jonas replied.
"Why?" Leo looked utterly baffled, but Jonas was already back to reading another document, basically kicking him out. "You can leave now."
Leo, "...?"
It wasn’t until he left Hawthorne Tower that Leo scratched the back of his head in frustration, "So I have to get the Sinclair Family’s signature first? That means I’ve gotta go find Raine. She’s running the Sinclair Family now!"
——
As Sedonia’s hottest woman at the moment, Raine really hadn’t expected her dad to hand over the entire family business so decisively.
"Dad, you’re just going to leave now?" Raine looked at her father in surprise as he packed up his stuff in the office.
She thought he’d at least stick around for a few days to show her the ropes?
Evan Sinclair slipped on his suit jacket and smiled, "After all these years, finally someone’s taking over. Of course I’m gonna grab some time and enjoy life! I arranged for you to have an assistant—ask him about anything big or small. And if it’s really too much, you can always call me. Don’t be so uptight, just do things your way. I believe in you!"
Raine blinked. "Dad, you’re really not worried at all..."
"Why would I worry about my daughter? Even if you burn through everything the Sinclair Family owns, don’t forget your grandpa’s empire is there too. Don’t be scared—go big or go home!"
With that, Evan Sinclair swaggered right out.
Raine walked him to the big entrance, honestly amazed by how much trust he placed in her...
She was just about to head upstairs when a cheerful male voice called out, "Raine!"
