"You never lived this long! Happy?" Nolan snapped at Liana. "So, I don't know when you die."

She looked down and nodded. "Oh, okay," she muttered, walking back slowly, before turning and walking away.

TheWisher>.<: Good job venting your anger on the lady, idiot.]

Nolan looked at the message and pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing. "Was that all you wanted to tell me about?" he asked, raising his voice.

"Yes," Liana replied without turning. "Have a good night."

The system flashed again.

[¹Message!

TheWisher>.<: You know she's lying, right?]

"She's angry," Nolan muttered to himself.

. . . . . .

The Next Day.

Liana dressed up in her room, getting ready for the day's patrol.

She walked over to pick her cap from the bed, but her hand froze as she remembered what happened the previous night. The chase, the realization, the chat with Nolan.

"Well, that was a night to remember," she voiced, picking up the cap and putting it on.

She then made for the door, hoping she could clear her mind once she got to the door.

Liana left and was about to lock the door, when— 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Sorry about last night."

"Aaahh!" she yelped, throwing the key to the ground.

Leaning on the wall by her side, was Nolan.

"Gods, are you trying to give me a heart attack or something?" Liana glared at him, placing a hand on her chest.

Nolan stared blankly.

She rolled her eyes and bent to pick the key. "What do you want?"

"I never said I wanted anything," Nolan answered, as she locked her door, "yet."

"Of course," she muttered to herself, completely ignoring him as she headed downstairs.

Nolan sighed and followed her. "See, I have a lot going on in my head and I raised my voice without realizing it."

He so much did not want to do this, but he had to.

Liana gave no reply, giving him deaf ears. She slammed a hand on Cedric's door when they got there and he shouted, "I'm coming!"

"It was a mistake, and I'm apologizing. Hello?" Nolan added, still following her. "I know you are angry."

"About what?" Liana finally spoke, stopping. "Because you said I never lived this long? I figured, since that explains why you must have been keeping a close eye on me. I mean, you never wanted to join the guild, but you did when I accepted Ace Cyndy's offer, yes? So, why would I be angry?"

'Gee, she sure thought about this a lot,' he thought, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I'm not angry, good?" she asked, still not turning around. When Nolan said nothing, she continued out the building.

Nolan followed her again and said something that made her stop in her tracks. "How did you know I was a Regressor?"

Liana remained quiet for a beat, before turning to him. "I put things together and figured it out myself."

"I know very well that you are lying, Liana."

"What? Maybe I'm a slow thinker."

"We have been together long enough for me to know you wouldn't wake up one morning and insult yourself."

Liana scoffed. "I told you how I figured it out, right?"

Nolan looked at her blankly, then he shrugged and walked past her.

That simple gesture did enough damage he wanted. Liana was left completely confused, wondering what just happened.

Her mind was reeling. 'That's it? What just—Wait, he does not even seem to care all of a sudden…' she thought.

Nolan stopped and looked back at Liana. "Are you not heading to the guild as well? Or do you want to walk alone?" he asked, like nothing happened.

"Oh, I-I am," she replied, walking to meet him.

After a few minutes, they got to the guild. To their surprise, one of the defense teams sent to the outer villages was back, and it was Ace Cyndy's.

"Why did they return? Have they cleared already?" Nolan asked no one in particular.

Liana on the other hand was still wondering why Nolan was not bothered, completely oblivious to what was happening. "He must be planning something. What is he planning? Does he plan to knock me out and tie me up again? No, I will not let him," she whispered to herself.

Just then, she saw the reason why Nolan must have been unbothered by her bluntness. Alexander.

He was just ahead, looking for someone, probably them.

Liana turned to Nolan and he looked at her with a confident smile, as if to confirm that her information wasn't as secretive as she thought. She clenched her fists, looked away and said, "They want to kill you."

Nolan leaned in and whispered. "I pretty much know about that. Some hooded ghost and Elite Loretta, yes?"

Liana's eyes widened and she turned to him. "You were there? Alexander told you?"

"No. I knew all this while, and there's a lot more than just the two of them. I just wonder why they haven't attacked me yet," he replied.

"Because they can't. At least not yet," said Liana.

"Hm?" Nolan arched a brow.

Liana looked around and pulled him to a corner and explained everything that happened yesterday night, word for word. Nolan didn't seem to hear anything out of his expectations, until she said there was this "He" whose name no one says, that's protecting him, Nolan.

Nolan instantly connected the dots to what The Wisher had said also, about the Architect that gave him the Omnipotent Copy System and a shot at making this his last regression.

The question suddenly got a higher spot in his mind. Who was "He"?

As Liana carried on, Nolan was surprised to hear the name Kraxus from her, and worst of all, that they were finding a way to get him to the demon, because it could be able to kill him.

"So, that's how it is, huh?" he muttered. "I wonder how they plan on doing that."

Liana raised a finger. "Actually, now that I think about it, they wouldn't make it so obvious."

"Are you saying—"

"Yes, they will send us out as a team."

"How sure are you?"

. . .

Yesterday Night.

Quartz-Core Library.

Liana walked up the stairs, going to meet Elite Sebastien who said he wanted to talk about something. "Good evening," Liana greeted and he nodded. "You, uh, wanted to speak to me about something?"

"There is a storm coming your way, coming for one person amongst those you lead. It has no eyes to tell who from who, and if not careful, you may all happen to lose," the man said. "I know you may not understand. Not yet. But nonetheless, be prepared that which you are not. We have lost, and an opening has been formed. What happens next will be no coincidence… for the Best Patrol Team."

With that, the man left Liana standing there, utterly confused. "What did he say again?" she asked herself.

. . .

It was confusing at first, but it all made sense now. "I got a heads up," she said to Nolan.
