Regressor's Harem Of Vengeance-Chapter 14. The Nest
Ray soon arrived at his destination, just as the sun began to set.
He was currently standing at the edge of a small valley, which provided him with an easy vantage point of the now deserted and ruined landscape.
The place used to be a village filled with houses and people residing in this part of the kingdom. However, something terrible happened centuries ago, and now most of the buildings have been destroyed, leaving behind only ruins.
Everything his eyes could see was covered in moss and vines could be seen growing around every broken window and the abandoned buildings, while trees were even growing through the collapsed roofs of so many of the destroyed buildings.
The Goblin Nest dungeon was currently located beneath this village and that was why Ray was trying his best to find the dungeon’s entrance.
He continued to look around until his gaze fell upon a slope that led directly to what might actually be the dungeon’s entrance.
Well, since he wasn’t sure, he had no choice but to check it out himself.
Ray descended the slope carefully, then he activated his <<Void Sense>> ability which allowed him to detect whether there were any threats nearby.
Luckily for him, there were no threats nearby aside from the birds and the soft rustle of the wind against the leaves.
Ray went further down the slope, and finally, he found the dungeon’s entrance.
It had a stone archway that was half-buried in dirt and was overgrown with roots.
Ray stopped at the threshold, then he began to look around at his surroundings.
He wasn’t going to enter the dungeon tonight because it was too risky and he needed to rest for now.
Besides, he couldn’t fight on an empty stomach. So he turned around and camped in one of the more intact buildings nearby.
The roof of the building was gone, but the walls provided some shelter from the wind.
Ray built a small fire, ate some of his dried meat and bread, then he simply stared at the flames of the wood burning in front of him.
Once he felt sleepy, Ray used his bag as a pillow and lay down close to the fire, sleeping soon afterwards.
The next morning, he woke up before the sun even began to rise.
He glanced around and noticed that the fire had burned down to embers, then he noticed how cold the air currently was and how his breathing became misty with every breath that he exhaled.
He swiftly ate his breakfast before packing his supplies and strapping his sword to his waist.
Then he walked the short distance to the dungeon’s entrance before taking a deep breath.
In his first life, Ray had been terrified of dungeons.
Yes, he had always wanted to fight against monsters to protect his kingdom, just like every other commoner in his village, but like everyone else, Ray had a certain amount of fear as well.
He had been afraid because of how dungeons were rumored to be dark and filled with monsters.
And he had been afraid of dying in such a dark, creepy place.
Even after he had awakened his abilities, Ray had still been terrified of entering his first dungeon.
But with five years of experience now, Ray felt nothing while staring at the dungeon in front of him.
In fact, he couldn’t wait to get started, and so, he lit a torch and walked into the dungeon.
The first thing he noticed after going through the entrance was the stairs, which descended further into the dark, he noticed the water dripping from the ceiling and the walls which were slick with moisture and moss.
Ray moved cautiously, then he activated his <<Void Sense>> ability which allowed him to detect the tunnels below that led to different paths and were filled with goblins.
The first set of goblins that he detected was three in number and they were about twenty meters away from his current location.
Ray reached the bottom of the stairs and entered the first tunnel which was like a small chamber.
The ceiling was low, so he had to duck slightly while the air was filled with the smell of rotten flesh and animal waste.
Still, Ray followed the tunnel until he entered a chamber.
His gaze fell on his primary targets and he noticed what they were doing.
The three goblins were currently crouching around a fire they had made, but they seemed to be roasting something that looked like a terribly battered rat.
They were wearing tattered leather straps and were carrying rusted daggers, and since each of them was currently at level 4, Ray knew that winning against all three goblins wouldn’t be easy.
Still, he drew his sword and stepped into the chamber.
The nearest goblin looked up and its yellow eyes widened the moment it noticed that Ray was already inside their home.
It opened its mouth to screech but Ray swiftly used <<Void Step>> and the world around him turned into a blur as he flickered across the chamber and reappeared behind the goblin.
He swiftly swung his sword in a clean horizontal arc, cutting through the creature’s neck and making the goblin’s head hit the ground first before its body finally followed.
Meanwhile, the other two goblins scrambled to their feet and snarled at the intruder who had entered their home.
They were shocked, hungry, but mainly, they were confused by how Ray had managed to enter without them even noticing his presence until now.
They panicked as they tried to get a good grip on their weapons but Ray didn’t wait for them to calm themselves.
Instead, he charged at the second goblin and managed to dodge its clumsy dagger thrust before driving his sword straight into the Goblin’s chest.
The third Goblin saw this and immediately turned to run away, but Ray threw his wooden torch at it and the flaming part of the wood struck the goblin’s back, causing it to scream as it stumbled to the ground.
However, without wasting another moment, Ray swiftly closed the distance between them, before stabbing his sword straight into the monster’s spine.
Now, three goblins were dead and he had easily defeated them all in less than thirty seconds.
Seeing this, a huge grin spread on his lips.
He knew that this kind of speed and precision would be of great use to him when he decided to face his targets, and this was another reason why he wanted to get stronger as soon as possible.
Ray then pulled his sword out of the Goblin’s body and retrieved his still burning torch before feeling a slight spinning in his head.
It was the usual side effects that came with using his <<Void Step>> ability, but the disorientation faded faster than usual this time around.
