Regressor's Harem Of Vengeance-Chapter 22. Training Mira.
The next morning, Ray woke up and the first thing he noticed was the ray of sunlight streaming through his window.
Soon after, the tempting aroma of freshly baked bread wafted into his room, making him rise to his feet swiftly.
Then he got dressed and headed downstairs to find Mira in the kitchen.
She was busy kneading some dough but she lifted her head the moment she sensed his presence and her lips widened into a smile.
It was a smile Ray would never want to miss for the world.
"Good morning, sleepyhead. Did you sleep well?" Mira asked and Ray replied after planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Yeah, better than I have in a long time."
Ray turned around and noticed Helen at the stove, stirring a pot of porridge. "Good morning, Mom."
"Good morning, dear. You can have your seat. Breakfast is almost ready."
Emma was already seated at the dinner table and she beckoned for her big brother to come sit next to her. "Good morning, big brother. Can you come over, I have something very important to ask you."
"What is it?"
"Um, can you please teach me how to fight? Pretty pretty please?"
"But you’re twelve, you don’t need to know how to fight."
"But you can fight."
"Yeah, cause I’m nineteen."
"But fighting makes you cool and I want to be cool, just like you."
Ray smiled and gently ruffled her hair. "You’re already cool, Emma."
Emma beamed at his compliment, but she wasn’t ready to give up yet. "But I want to be strong and cool like you. Plus, you went into a dungeon and killed a giant monster all by yourself. I want to be able to do that in the future too." Since Ray had shared his adventures with his family over supper, Emma had been unable to get it out of her mind.
Now, she wanted to go into dungeons and experience the things her big brother had experienced.
"FYI, young lady, I didn’t fight against a giant monster. It was just a Hobgoblin."
"Still, that is so cool. Don’t you think Big Brother is cool too, Big sister Mira?" Emma turned to Mira.
Mira’s face flushed slightly, when she realized that everyone had now focused their attention on her. "Y-yes, he is."
Hearing this, Emma grinned and returned her gaze back to Ray. "See? Even big sister Mira thinks you’re cool. So you should definitely teach us both how to fight!"
"Us?" Ray repeated as he looked at Mira.
Mira swiftly pretended to be intensely focused on her dough, and Ray brought his gaze back to Emma.
"So did you and your big sister talk about this?"
"Yes, we both agreed this morning that it would be fun to train and go on adventures together with you," Emma replied with a nod.
Ray swiftly turned his gaze back to Mira but she avoided his eyes.
"Is this true?" He asked, and Mira replied, still staring at the dough in front of her. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Emma’s just being silly." She muttered softly but Ray noticed the way her hands were kneading the dough.
It was a little more forceful and harder than necessary, indicating that Mira was trying to hide the truth from him, but Emma was confused as to why Mira was trying to hide the truth from Ray.
"Huh? But big sis Mira, I thought you said..."
"Alright, everyone, breakfast is ready." Helen drew everyone’s attention toward her.
She set the bowls of porridge on the table before urging Ray and Emma to sit and eat while Mira brought the already-baked bread.
After breakfast, Ray stepped out of the house to find Mira in the barn, feeding the chickens.
She looked up as soon as he entered, but then quickly looked away before asking. "Um, do you need something?"
"Yeah, about what Emma said earlier today, did the two of you really...?"
"I... Emma was just talking. We didn’t..."
"It’s okay, Mira, you don’t have to hide anything from me." Ray stepped closer and placed a hand on her left cheek.
Mira set down the bucket she was holding and sighed softly.
"Fine. Yes. I want to learn." She crossed her arms as she added. "You went into that dungeon alone and came back covered in bruises and blood but all I could do was sit here and wait, hoping that you’d just come back alive. Do you know how frustrating and useless that made me feel?"
"You’re not useless."
"I am. You’re out there getting stronger and fighting monsters while I’m here feeding chickens and baking bread. I understand that you are doing it for us, but do you really have to do them all on your own? If we’re going to get married, then I don’t want to be a weak wife who just sits at home and hopes her husband comes back safely. I want to be out there with you too."
Mira added. "Also, last night, you said that you had another reason for training so hard, but when I asked you what your reason was, you didn’t give me an answer. I feel like you didn’t want me to know because you think I’ll worry again. But I bet you wouldn’t have thought that way if you thought that I was strong enough to protect myself and to protect you too."
Ray remained silent as he listened to Mira.
He had never seen Mira as frustrated as this before.
In his first life, she had always been gentle, accepting, and content with her life. But from what he could see right now, Mira was different.
Something in her had definitely changed.
Maybe it was because she’d seen him come back from the dungeon bruised and covered in bloody wounds, and it had made her realize how dangerous the world really was.
’Yeah, that must have been the reason.’ Ray thought to himself and he couldn’t blame her for feeling the way she did.
He could see how much she wanted him to believe in her.
She wanted Ray to stop seeing her as the fragile little girl who couldn’t protect herself.
She wanted to be by his side, fighting monsters and protecting him, just as he always protected her.
Realizing this, Ray sighed softly and finally gave in. "Okay."
"Okay?" Mira tilted her head cutely with a puzzled look on her face.
"Yes, I’ll train you."
"You will?" She asked in bewilderment.
"Yeah, we’ll start this afternoon, so be prepared, okay?"
"Yes, yes, thank you." Mira swiftly kissed his cheek before leaving to get herself ready for her first training.
Ray watched as she hurried out of the barn and his lips widened into a grin as he thought about something.
If Mira had been able to fight in his first life, would she have been able to protect herself against Harvard’s men who had dragged her out to be slaughtered in public?
Ray sighed and shook the thought out of his mind.
Things were different now, so he refused to continue dwelling on the past.
