Reincarnated As A Dragon With Cheats-Chapter 30: New Life (1)
Chapter 30: New Life (1)
Azeth and Nightstone remained quiet for some time after hearing that. They did not understand what he meant by defective dragon, but neither of them questioned him.
After a brief silence, Azeth finally spoke.
"Lord Master, this is the body of the shaman. What shall I do with it, Lord?"
Pebbles corrected him first. "When you are talking to me, just call me Master. Both words are unnecessary. And if you are talking about the shaman’s body, I do have a use for it."
"Yes, understood, Master!"
Having said that, Pebbles stood up immediately.
"Let us head to the second floor."
The hole, or rather the small tunnel that connected both floors, was now much larger. It was thanks to Azeth’s punch.
This time, they simply walked through it without needing to bend and crawl like before.
Azeth had done it out of respect for his master.
’I cannot let my Master crawl through that hole,’ he had thought, and so he punched it randomly when returning after the kill.
Now they easily reached the second floor.
The Gravers gathered around them almost instantly.
Pebbles noticed the Fatty and the one with sunglasses first, but he could not find the one with the hat.
Naturally, he asked, "Where is he? The one with the hat?"
"He is talking," the one with the sunglasses replied.
The Fatty tried to correct him. "No, he is just asking about ways to make food."
Before Pebbles could say anything more, the Fatty approached closer.
Any closer and Azeth would have launched his breath at the poor fellow. But thanks to Pebbles stretching his right hand to stop him, Azeth paused.
"That mask looks good. Can I eat it?"
Pebbles chuckled. "You want to eat everything you see? Have you tried eating his sunglasses?"
The Fatty turned in the direction Pebbles pointed.
"Um, I tried. But they are Mick and Nick. I cannot hurt Mick and Nick. They are friends..."
When the Fatty turned back, Pebbles tilted his head slightly and looked at the Graver with sunglasses. The Graver was standing stiffly with both hands joined, moving them up and down as if praying that nothing more about the sunglasses would be talked.
Pebbles chuckled again, imagining that some elaborate story had been invented to keep the Fatty under control.
He turned his head left and right, looking at all the Gravers.
He asked a very simple question, "Were... ahem, were you all humans?"
The Gravers looked at each other and, in a confused gaze, asked, "Humans? Like the guy over there?"
Pebbles followed their puzzled eyes to where one of them was pointing.
If not for the hat, the Graver Pebbles had been trying to find would not have been visible, as he was mostly obstructed by a rock large enough to hide him. But there was a human clearly visible nearby.
He seemed to be in better condition than the others. Although his skin had been torn in many places and there were severe burn marks across his body, and even though one of his eyes was missing, the man was able to stand on his own feet.
"Is that the man you saved?"
"Yes, Master."
Pebbles continued to stare at him for a few moments after hearing Azeth’s reply.
The man should not have been in such condition. He definitely should not have been able to stand or speak. On the screen, Pebbles had seen him nearly dead.
His internal organs had almost been visible.
It was suspicious.
Azeth sensed the confusion and quickly explained.
"Master, that man absorbed some amount of energy from the trees."
"Oh?"
"Yes, Master. By the time I went to check on the humans, only he was still alive. He had already healed from most of his injuries.
"Hmm." Pebbles began walking toward the man.
When Pebbles had first arrived, the man had briefly noticed him, but he had quickly withdrawn his gaze.
Now, sensing Pebbles approaching, he could not help but feel uneasy. Sweat dripped down his face.
The Graver with the hat turned and noticed Pebbles.
Instantly. No, even instantly did not do it justice.
The Graver floated forward at great speed and appeared right in front of Pebbles.
Azeth was ready to punch him. He had almost leapt forward, but once again he saw Pebbles’ outstretched arm and stopped.
The Graver lowered himself and began to shed tears. These tears were not physical. They formed directly from his soul essence.
Each tear separated from his eyes and vanished into the air with faint sparkles.
"Thank you... thank you... thank you for listening to my silent prayer. Thank you for protecting us. Thank you for saving us. Thank you for saving his life..."
Pebbles was taken aback.
’Silent prayer?’
The Graver had managed to make him notice the hole that led to the fourth floor, but Pebbles had little to no idea that he wanted him to save them.
In fact, he had almost died in the process.
"THANK YOU!!!"
A loud chorus echoed from behind. When Pebbles turned around, he saw a myriad of Gravers bowing before him. Their bodies started to dissipate a little.
In fact, the moment the Undead Shaman died, their souls had been liberated.
They should have vanished immediately, but they stayed.
"THANK YOU..." as they muttered that, all of them vanished to oblivion.
Pebbles could only see faint sparkles ascending towards the ceiling and disappearing.
"Thank you, Lord Lizard."
He turned back.
This voice came from the man who had been saved. He was kneeling with one knee on the ground.
Pebbles did not know how to react. At that moment, he felt surprised, baffled, confused, and almost overwhelmed by their gratitude.
But he had to say something.
"It was nothing."
Pebbles was glad he wore a mask that hid his expression. Otherwise, he would have been smiling broadly. A genuine smile. To others, it might have looked unsettling. He did not want to ruin the moment because of his ugliness.
He raised his head and noticed that the Graver with the hat was still standing there.
"You are not joining them?"
The Graver did not respond at first. Then he slowly looked at Pebbles.
"I have one more request to make, Lord Lizard."
"Yes?"
"Sir Adam here is in search of the Ring of Resurrection, to bring his dead daughter back to life. If possible, could you help him find it? I don’t think I have much time left to do that..."
"Yes, Lord Lizard, I have heard that we can find it in this dungeon. I’d be extremely grateful if you could help me find it!"
The man had lowered his head completely. He was kneeling and if Pebbles wished for it, he would have smashed his head to the ground.
Except, Pebble didn’t want it.
He paused for a brief moment, wondering if it was the same ring they were referring to.
’Was it the same ring, System?’
[...]
[Affirmative.]
He sighed. Then, in a voice lower than before, he looked at Adam and said, "The item is no more."
"Pardon?"
"It broke during the battle."
"..."
