Reincarnated As A Dragon With Cheats-Chapter 29: Pebbles, The Defective Dragon
Chapter 29: Pebbles, The Defective Dragon
"Explain in brief how you killed the Undead Shaman."
"Yeah, no cheating. Five marks exam," Nightstone added.
The time Azeth took to return after killing the shaman was enough for Pebbles to buy goggles for Nightstone.
Two large lenses rested over four of her eyes. The rest remained uncovered, but nevertheless, she wore them and pretended to be a teacher.
Azeth stood in a stand at ease position, both arms behind his back, almost clutching his tail.
"Yes, Master. Yes, Senior. So, what happened is..."
And he gave a small explanation.
When the shaman used a spell that caused fire to burst forth from the circle, Azeth simply dodged it. He was fast, and a distance of one meter was enough for him to lower his head or duck. He was faster considering he had used the skill Madness.
The fire missed him by a hair’s breadth. Then Azeth used Blast of Chaos. It was similar to Dragon’s Breath, except a ball of black flames was launched from his mouth and struck the shaman right in the abdomen.
The ball carried the shaman straight into the bark of a tree. The bark broke, and he was launched further.
One tree. Then another.
A total of fifteen trees fell as the ball kept pushing forward. By the time it hit the fifteenth tree, the ball had almost run out of energy. But by then, the shaman was unconscious and nearly in a half dead state.
The Crystal of Life within him had already formed cracks. When Azeth used Dragon’s Breath earlier, it had not only cracked the barrier but also damaged the crystal itself, which kept the shaman alive and was akin to his soul.
The shaman did not move, or rather could not move, as the damage was fatal. Yet it was not the end.
Just when the ball seemed to lose its final bit of energy, it suddenly swelled slightly.
There is a saying that when a star dies, it burns the brightest.
And so did the ball. All the flames hidden within surged outward and then it exploded.
A loud blast echoed, and the shaman’s Crystal of Life shattered.
"...and that’s how I killed him, Master, Senior."
Both were left speechless.
"I could have tried to snatch the ring he possessed, but it broke..."
Pebbles finally extended his right hand and tapped Azeth’s left shoulder. consoling him.
"You did well. Don’t worry."
"But master, it was a powerful ring and it could have helped master in..."
Pebbles cut him short.
"As I said, don’t worry."
Seeing this, Nightstone nodded. She assumed Pebbles had already known that Azeth was capable of such feats, especially after he had warned her to treat Azeth properly. Still, she was the senior, and she wanted this junior to follow orders correctly.
Pebbles could see Nightstone puffing herself up and thinking all this, but once again, he did not intervene.
He simply looked Azeth straight in the eyes and asked, "You explained it well, but you did not mention Purge."
Nightstone instantly turned toward him. "That deducts one mark."
Pebbles shot her a strange glance, as if he wanted to hit this cosplayer, but he restrained himself.
"Ah, forgive me, Master. Forgive me, Senior. I was not trying to hide it..."
Pebbles waited patiently as Azeth opened his mouth wide.
For a fleeting second, he thought Azeth was about to use Dragon’s Breath on him. He did not know why that thought crossed his mind. Maybe it was the gurgling sound.
But he quickly realized he was completely wrong.
Azeth pulled two things out of his mouth.
First, a small condensed orb emitting a red glow and intense energy.
Second, broken fragments of the Crystal of Life.
Third...
Pebbles had been so focused on the first two that he failed to notice a third thing coming out, until he heard the thuds on the ground.
Bones.
Azeth pulled out carpals and metacarpals, then ribs, and one by one even the skull. They were all slimy. Pebbles could only give them another strange glance before Azeth spat out a black robe as well.
Seeing the black bones, Pebbles instantly understood that it was the shaman’s body. Watching Azeth expel everything one piece at a time, Pebbles guessed that the Purge skill allowed him to consume and store anything inside his stomach.
Perhaps it created a secondary space within him, similar to an inventory.
He had also guessed that the red energy orb was probably the energy from the red pillars of light that Azeth ended up consuming amidst the chaos.
[Affirmative.]
The system confirmed his hypothesis.
While Nightstone tried to cover her nose with her legs, Pebbles carefully examined the items.
[Item:]
[Name: Crystal of Life Fragments]
[Grade: D]
[Description: Provides extreme vitality and life energy. Undead beings can become sentient upon wielding the item.]
Pebbles instantly had a thought.
’Put them into the inventory.’
The items vanished from the floor the moment Pebbles extended his right hand.
Naturally, both Nightstone and Azeth were baffled by this move. Azeth was the most shaken.
’Master... no, my Lord can, with just a flick of his wrist, make things disappear... just how powerful must he be?’ He gulped once, then twice.
As for Nightstone, her thoughts were simpler.
’No wonder my master is the lizard of darkness...’
Ding!
[Azeth and Nightstone have been surprised by your actions.]
Ding!
[All the stone spiders tremble before your power.]
Ding!
[You have surprised the dungeon.]
None of these messages caught Pebbles’ attention. He dismissed them immediately, too focused on the second item.
[Name: Condensed Energy Orb]
[Grade: C]
[Description: An orb made from the life energy of many beings. Upon consumption, it can extend a dying being’s life.]
[Note: By extending life, the orb can do the following: Reverse aging, heal injuries, break curses of C rank or below, and detoxify poisons of C rank or below. It cannot cure defects such as blindness, missing limbs, or lost body parts.]
Pebbles would have consumed it without hesitation if not for that final line.
He merely smiled.
Perhaps it was not yet time for him to obtain a majestic body. Perhaps he had to remain a defective dragon for a while longer.
’I’m Pebbles, the defective dragon.’
Storing away the orb, he went back and sat on the stone platform.
Azeth and Nightstone didn’t mutter a word, and they simply stared at Pebbles when he sighed and muttered, "A defective dragon..."
