Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 314: A Lot Is Occuring
Marcus’s telepathic words were imbued with the powers of the law of death, bending the fabric of reality to make the impossible possible.
Death Essence rolled forth from his Avian body, slamming into the earth and sinking into the dozens of dead bodies on the ground.
The death essence avoided Sherone’s body which was already nothing but rotten pieces of flesh and brittle bones. The body had been completely baptized in the power of Death and failed to be reborn.
As the death essence left Marcus’s body and flowed into the corpses, something amazing began to happen. The dead buffaloes and zebras began to twitch.
It started with a little minor movement. The joints shifting, the eyelids fluttering, the tails curling. Then the limbs began to shake to life, the muscles spasmed as reverse strength worked on them.
They opened their eyes one after the other, their souls returning to their bodies in mangled, intangible but horrific forms.
They stood up slowly, one good at a time. This definitely showed the other herd creatures as they rushed to create more distance between them.
The buffalo stood up, all the memories of his past life remained, it was still the same soul. But now, it was twisted beyond recognition.
Just because they moved didn’t mean they were alive. Their bodies were still undergoing decay, it was only a matter of time before they fully dissipated and their souls were set free from Marcus’s curse.
Marcus stared down at his work, his four dozen small army of undead creatures. Their grey eyes looked up at the massive black vulture in the sky. To them, he was like a revolving black star, shining a dark light on their new path and purpose.
"Follow!" Marcus ordered before turning around and flying away. His direction was the same as where the last red-headed vulture had flown to.
They say he looked at the distant escaping vulture, it was like he was staring at the person who killed his mother.
The Conquering Essence filled him with the desire and guts to go for the jugular of the vulture society. He knew what must be done for him to take his life back into his hands.
He remembered Sherone’s words, Primordials can only depend on themselves, every other thing was extra.
Why should he apologize for being better than them? Why should he tone down? Why should he bow his head when the elder speaks? Why should he act and pretend to care? Why?
They should all be bowing down to him, thanking him for existing and bringing such blessings into their lives. Without him, would they have been able to do some of the things they did?
How dare they treat him as though he were just another nameless asset? They treated him like some kind of weapon to be unleashed only when they wanted.
How dare they?
The pride that the elders had spent so much time crushing was starting to repair itself again. The self-esteem that Marcus had carefully hidden away was starting to grow again. And this time, he stopped caring about being conscious of his ego and about his uniqueness.
All the little bitty bits of narcissism that he could muster fell through to push Marcus into this current state of mind. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Down below, after receiving Marcus’s orders, the undead creatures moved. They ran in the same direction Marcus was flying in, leaving behind nothing but stunned herd members.
Some of the herd members saw those whom they knew personally, die, then brought back to ’life’ only for him to look around with a robotic unnatural gaze that unsettled everyone.
And now, they were going to who knows where.
These undead creatures moved with wanton ignorance. They bashed their horned heads and equine bodies into their fellow herd members, doing everything in their power to make sure they continued following Marcus.
The undead creatures seemed to possess some level of intelligence as they were somewhat picky about the type of creatures they could bash into when running. They seemed to deliberately ignore any creature that seemed too aggressive, was in its mating season, or had a high power level.
But still, the sight of them running like that sent shivers down the spine of most who saw them.
While Marcus had been killing the vultures and raising the dead, something else was happening under the noses of everyone.
Another male zebra, one that Hserine had previously placed one of his spirit seeds in, began to shake uncontrollably as another mind took over his body.
This zebra was different from other zebras. It was white with dark green stripes and had a single, slightly curved, unicorn horn on its head.
This horn was black and looked like a polished stone. It has glowing green lines spiraling from the base to the tip, enhancing the magical vibe of the zebra.
The new mind that took over the body noticed how similar this zebra was to the mythological creature of his past life called unicorns.
He had some ideas but didn’t dwell on them.
All that Marcus had done had been a very good distraction, he had attracted the gazes of most of the herbivores for some time. Allowing his growing minions to spread out more thoroughly.
The green-striped, one-horned zebra stared upward at the distant black vulture that was flying away. A smile crept onto his lips as greyish-golden light briefly flashed through his eyes.
By now, he was so deep into the Super Mega Herd that he couldn’t see the end he came from.
With the temporary gift he had given Marcus, he was expecting to see some returns very soon. He had only given Marcus a little bit of it.
Marcus wasn’t a lion who was naturally attuned to Conquering Essence and already had the mindset. Neither had he had any experience with using Conquering Essence before. It was expected that the little Conquering Essence he was giving would have some effect in his mind.
Marcus had become crazier, more tyrannical, cruel, the template of a Conqueror. But it was only for a short amount of time.
Hopefully, the state would last long enough for Marcus to do what he wanted to do with it. Besides, he was a Primordial, he could probably handle himself.
The issue was that once the Conquering Essence ran out, Marcus would become like an addict suffering from withdrawal. His mind would tell him that he needs to find more Conquering Essence so that he could feel the way he felt.
But Conquering Essence doesn’t work like that, especially in the mind of a Primordial. Once it was taken once, it was very likely that he would not change his mind again if he took it again. It would just serve as a power boost which was more than enough.
Kael knew this, and he knew that this would prompt Marcus to want to stay around him, giving Kael all the time to tap the powers of this Death-affiliated Primordial.
So many things were occurring at the same time and Kael was the driving force behind most of them.
Only time would tell the results.
Besides the thing with Marcus, the Super Mega Herd was also undergoing some kind of turnover.
Many were noticing that some of the herd members were starting to move strangely. They were going from one creature to the other, evangelizing about a world filled with peace and harmony.
They preached of a world with no meat eaters, a world where every creature could live in harmony.
They talked about the benefits of such a world and they also talked about the bad things that could happen if they don’t act fast.
This was because evangelism without incentives and a fear factor was just a suggestion.
The giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and wildebeests all had these fanatics in their ranks and fields, trying to convince them to turn toward the other side.
Hours had passed by since Sherone brought up the illusion and the message had undergone a slight evolution.
Now, it wasn’t just about the harmony of the world, it was about fighting against the creatures who wished to prevent this harmony from taking place.
They were starting to believe that they were the only ones who knew what was best for the world and nothing else could change that. An Us-Versus-Them mentality had successfully taken shape.
And it was all because of one carefully constructed illusion.
Time was passing by and the evening sky would soon descend. All this was one day. Tomorrow...
Tomorrow...
The horde was close. Many herd members of the Super Mega Herd could feel that something was wrong.
Something was about to happen.
It wasn’t just the powerful members of the herd that figured this out. The Hyenas that frequently hunted at the edge of the herd also sensed danger.
The laughters that echoed out under the evening sky wasn’t one of joy. They laughed because that was the sound they could produce biologically, but the laughter tuned down as they felt the rising feeling of terror.
And as if to confirm their guesses, a golden light flashed briefly beyond the horizon. The flash was bright enough for all those who were looking in that direction to see it clearly.
Then came the feeling of oppression.
