Reincarnated as a Vampire Who Acquires Skills Through Blood-Chapter 103 - In the City [2]
"What are you guys looking at?"
The man who had just called Onyx a disgusting animal spoke again. He was swaying slightly on his feet, his hand gripping the back of a nearby chair just to stay upright.
He was accompanied by two other men who didn’t look much better. All three were dressed in high-quality silks that were now wrinkled and stained with god-knows-what. Based on the way he was talking and the way his head lolled to the side—he was very drunk.
’Who the hell gets drunk this early in the morning?’
Verc asked himself. He glanced at the large clock hanging on the far wall. If he had to estimate, it was just about 9 AM right now. Most people were just starting their breakfast or heading out for business, yet these three looked like they had been face-down in a barrel for the last twelve hours.
TAP-
As the drunkard stepped closer, Verc noticed the change in the air right next to him. Tatum and Jed weren’t taking the insult lightly
He could see their knuckles turning white as they tensed their hands. Their fingers twitched, ready to move and attack the moment the man made another move. To them, an insult to Onyx was an insult to their lord, and they were more than ready to paint the white marble floor red.
But before they could even move—
"..."
Verc stretched out his hands toward them, placing a firm palm on each of their shoulders to stop them. He didn’t say a word, but the weight of his grip was enough to make them freeze. Then, he simply shook his head.
The two kids were surprised by this. They looked up at Verc with confusion, wondering why he was letting a pathetic, drunken human talk to them like that.
However, without fail, they obeyed their lord. They forced their muscles to relax.
’It’s such a stupid thing to get in trouble just because of this. We’re ought to move discreetly while in the city. We have too much to do to be dragged into a mess over some drunk nobles. Also, I know that some people doesn’t want animals in places like these.’
Verc thought to himself, thinking logically.
Getting into a brawl in a high-class hotel wasn’t on his to-do list.
And so, calmly—
"Sorry if we inconvenience you. Is there a way we can settle this properly? After all, I am aware that we’re disturbing you gentlemen, but at the same time—we can’t just leave this little guy outside now."
He said that, keeping his voice steady and polite. He even managed to put on a slightly apologetic tone, explaining to the three men their situation. He didn’t want to draw any more eyes than they already had.
At his words, the three drunk men were surprised.
They had expected a fight or a defensive shout, but they were taken aback with how calm Verc’s response was. They blinked their blurry eyes, trying to process the fact that this masked man was basically apologizing to them.
"Well, don’t we have a decent human here."
The man who seemed like the leader of the trio said that with a sloppy smile on his face. He let go of the chair and straightened his vest, though he still looked like a mess. He started chuckling, thinking that Verc was a pushover who was scared of his noble status.
"Haha, I just know when I’m in the wrong."
Verc said.
He kept his posture relaxed, almost submissive. Tatum and Jed, however, were having a hard time.
They couldn’t accept that their lord was being talked down by some random drunken human young master. It felt wrong. It felt insulting. They both looked at Verc, their teeth gritting together, wanting to ask what he was doing and why he was acting so weak.
But then—WHOOSH~
"?!!"
Their eyes widened upon seeing Verc’s face. The atmosphere around their table shifted in a way only they could feel.
While his body stayed relaxed and he still had that polite smile on his face—the look in his eyes told a completely different story. They were cold, sharp, and entirely emotionless as he looked at the three men not far from them.
A chill ran through their spines seeing that. It was a silent warning that Verc wasn’t being kind—he was being efficient.
Instinctively, Tatum and Jed just shut their mouths. They realized that their lord wasn’t bowing down; he was simply setting the stage for something else.
Though, unlike them—the three drunkards didn’t notice this about Verc. They were too far gone into their own ego and the alcohol to see that. They continued talking among themselves, laughing and pointing at Onyx again.
"So, what do you suggest we do in this situation?"
And at that moment, the leader of the three shifted his attention back to Verc and asked that. He crossed his arms over his chest, acting like a judge who was about to deliver a sentence.
"Hmm, it looks like the three of you are having a good time... how about some gold coins to fund it?"
Verc suggested.
Gold was something these types of people understood.
And so, hearing his words, the leader of the three looked at the two others and smiled widely. They nudged each other, their eyes lighting up at the mention of money.
"Sure, we’ll take it. But make it worth our while, masked man."
The drunk responded, holding out a dirty, trembling hand toward Verc.
Verc didn’t hesitate. He casually reached inside his spatial pouch.
Then when he pulled his hand out--he had three gold coins resting in his palm. They glittered brilliantly under the hall’s lights, attracting the greedy eyes of the three men.
"Here."
Verc said, holding them out.
The three saw the three coins and their smiles faltered. They expected a lot more.
"Only three? That’s it? You think our time is that cheap?"
The leader complained, stepping closer until his face was just inches from Verc’s.
But by then, the polite smile on Verc’s face was gone. His expression went flat, turning into a mask of stone. He looked at the three of them, his red eyes glowing faintly under the shadow of his hood.
"It’s more than enough."
Verc said that, his voice dropping several octaves. It was no longer the voice of a "decent human," but the voice of the monster who ruled the [Cursed Forest].
"Huh?"
Before the three could even do or say something—BAM!
Verc’s hand blurred!
He threw the gold coins at the three young masters!
To a normal person’s eye, it looked like Verc hadn’t even moved, but the three gold coins flew from his hand at a speed that broke the sound barrier in the small space!
CRACK!
The sound of the three men’s skulls cracking was heard clearly throughout the silent dining hall. Each coin had hit one of the men perfectly in the center of their foreheads. It wasn’t enough to kill them, but the impact was like being hit by a galloping horse.
And in the next moment—THUD!
The three of them fell on the floor like sacks of potatoes. They didn’t even have time to groan or scream; they were out cold before they even hit the ground. Their bodies sprawled across the marble, their expensive hats rolling away into the distance.
"...?"
"???"
The sound of the impact and the bodies hitting the floor attracted the attention of everyone in the area.
Other guests stood up from their tables, and several waiters stopped in their tracks, their eyes wide with shock.
Verc didn’t look bothered. He calmly picked up his fork and poked at a piece of fruit. Then, he raised a hand and called for a staff member. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Tap- Tap- Tap-
Not long after, a waiter approached them, his legs shaking and his face pale. He looked at the three bodies and then at Verc, unsure of what to do.
"..."
Verc pointed at the three unconscious men on the ground and opened his mouth.
"The three of them were drunk and suddenly fell on their own. It looks like they cracked their heads as well as they fell head first. It’s a shame. They really shouldn’t drink so much so early in the morning."
He said that to the waiter with a completely straight face.
The waiter looked at the other people around, his eyes searching for witnesses. He looked at a group of merchants at a nearby table and then at an elderly couple.
Those who had been watching the situation since the beginning, they just saw the three nobles approaching Verc and his group before falling into the ground, they didn’t see what Verc didn... they couldn’t, to be exact.
And so,one by one, they nodded their heads, confirming Verc’s words were true.
"Yes, they just fell suddenly."
One merchant said.
"Very clumsy."
The elderly man added, nodding solemnly.
"I see... how unfortunate. We will handle it immediately, sir. My apologies for the disturbance to your meal."
The waiter said, bowing his head to Verc. He gestured for some other staff members to come over.
And just then, as he approached the three unconscious men to check on them, he saw the three gold coins lying on the floor near their heads.
"My lord, these coins...?"
The waiter turned to Verc and asked what those were.
Then with a casual shrug--
"Those are mine. You can take them. Just consider it a tip for handling those drunk guys and cleaning up the mess they made."
Verc answered that as if he were talking about the weather.
"...!"
The waiter was surprised hearing that. Three gold coins was a massive amount for a tip—it was more than he made in several days. A huge smile appeared on his face.
"Thank you, sir! You are very generous!"
The waiter chirped.
And after that; he and the other staff members immediately started dragging the three men outside the hotel by their boots. They weren’t being gentle at all, their heads bumping against the floor as they were hauled toward the exit.
And just like that—the problem was gone.
’I think I handled the situation good and quietly.’
Verc said that to himself, taking a bite of his steak.
Tatum and Jed were looking at him, their expressions a mix of awe and complete respect.
They had seen many ways to deal with enemies, but seeing Verc navigate a human social situation with such cold efficiency was impressive. He hadn’t broken any laws, he hadn’t caused a scene, and he had even made the staff love him for it.
Onyx, meanwhile, didn’t seem to care about the drama at all. He was wagging his tail happily, circling around Verc’s leg.
