Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 117: Infinite Harbinger
"I was banished because of you. The other gods shunned me and stripped me of my powers when I tried to fight back. An act I still deem cowardly. And you are still to blame for that."
Keeping his calm, Alaric allowed the god to speak his mind.
Was it nostalgia? Or perhaps it was the pity he felt for the god? Either way, Alaric couldn’t help but sympathize.
"...and it’s why I’ll always despise you."
"Are you saying I am this god of Trinity?" asked Alaric.
Silence took over for a while.
"Seems she took your memories as well. Such a sadistic woman," said the god of Devouring, before raising his head to focus on something behind Alaric.
Noticing this, Alaric immediately turned to also check what could be behind him.
"Babetoa!" The goddess of creation, Satella, called out as she hugged him tightly in her arms.
"Ohhh, thank goodness you’re safe. I thought I lost you~"
Alaric was surprised, but even more so, confused.
’How is she here?’ he thought to himself. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The only reason he was calm from the get-go was because he had already accepted the fact he was dead, and he had somehow gotten sucked into the devourer god, Arnoch’s domain.
Since Arnoch couldn’t enter the Zone, which was Satella’s domain, then why was Satella able to enter his?
And how come he hasn’t said anything either?
Pulling away, Satella cupped her hands around Alaric’s cheeks, "Tell me, do you feel strange? Are you sure you’re good?"
Alaric sighed, "Someone please clear up what is going on before I actually go insane."
"Uhn? What do you mean?"
"How are you able to just casually walk into Arnoch’s domain? He can’t be that much of a failure, come on. And I’m dead, aren’t I? How did I get dragged in here to begin with? Shouldn’t I be in hell or heaven?"
Satella smiled.
"You’ve always been the curious type; I find it cute. To answer your question, yes, you are dead. But you are not in this mongrel’s domain. You are currently in a place where life or death doesn’t exist."
"I’m sorry?"
"This is a place I created for us if the day ever came that we perished. I intended to keep it a secret from the other gods, but as it would seem, they didn’t like the idea after they found out. As such, it became the afterlife for a select few."
Alaric glared a bit, "So it’s the afterlife then?"
"I guess you can call it that, my love. Depending on who dies, the world will create a new one to replace what was lost. A duplicate world for the dead to find a new purpose."
’A new purpose? Does she mean...they get reincarnated into another world?’
"It’s exactly as you are thinking. Yes, they get reincarnated into another world. I called it the Infinite Harbinger; my world can create countless other worlds within itself. The same was done for you; your reincarnation was my doing."
It was slowly starting to make sense.
This was how he, too, reincarnated into a new world.
"Is that to say... If I die now... I’ll get reincarnated?"
The goddess’s smile faded, turning into a malicious grin.
"Don’t be silly; I could never let you do that. No, you’ll be staying here with me."
Alaric’s face was hitched with worry.
"You’re keeping me here...or you don’t have control over it. Make it clear."
"Unfortunately, I no longer have my power with me. Since you killed yourself, I had to kill myself to come here, too. It wasn’t easy; as a god, I had countless immortality. It took countless tries before my energy ran out. As such, it will take years before I can even get a fraction of my powers. The world runs on its own; it doesn’t need my leadership. But as I said before, there are only a chosen few that get reincarnated, those with a pure soul. And you don’t even have a soul."
It was true.
During his attempt to save the world from the doom that threatened to end the world, Alaric had to let go of his soul.
"Unless you are somehow able to get your soul back, you will forever be stuck here with me."
"I can’t move on."
"Without a soul, you are simply an anomaly, stuck here with no direction."
Alaric sighed, this one louder than the last.
"At least answer me this: How is the Montclair Barony doing? Did my plan work?"
The goddess replied,
"As much as I hate to say this, that woman did as you told her to. She revived everyone and was viewed as a hero by everyone. Though the world is far from being peaceful, that Duchess managed to clear your name, explaining to the world why you did what you did. Of course, not everyone accepted; in fact, a huge portion of the world hates you. Tsk, humans will always be insufferable."
A warm smile played on Alaric’s face.
"I’m glad. They are alright," he muttered, more to himself.
He then stretched before sitting on the ground.
"Are you not upset?"
"Why would I be upset?"
"You saved the world, and they still view you as a villain."
"I’m dead. Why should that matter? Besides, I never really cared much for them anyway; as long as my family is alright, I’m good to go."
"All that for this. You really are the worst joke of the barony."
Alaric remained silent...
Then again, he noticed Arnoch had barely said anything since Satella arrived.
It was then a question popped up in his head.
"If I could die and come back here, how come you were afraid of Arnoch killing me? If I would just come back here eventually."
Satella locked eyes with Arnoch upon Alaric’s question.
"Because he is my opposite. While I create, he can destroy. If he was to kill you, you would not return here, as every part of you would be devoured. Which is why he is a danger to you and has to be eliminated."
