"I'm... sorry." Lucy tilted her head to the side, confused as to what she had just heard from Jared.

Upgrading a person's rank was unheard of. The most that could be done was if they got stronger after getting their hands on a powerful relic.

Lucy fell into that category. She had been a 4-star all her life; there was no way she ever hoped to awaken.

"You were being serious, my lord?" Lucy could barely hide her jaw-dropped expression.

"Would I joke about something like this?" Jared responded. "Our village is declining in strength. Magic beasts attack on a daily basis, making it hard for the villagers to live any peaceful life. And we are constantly getting picked on by the other villages close to us. It's only a matter of time before they try to take our watering hole."

Jared glared. "If we are to survive, going all out is the only way. Thus, I offer you this power, and you would refuse it?"

Lucy was silent for a while.

In truth, she didn't know what to say or feel. She could tell Jared was being serious, and he wasn't the type to falsely say something like that.

Which meant... Jared did possess the ability to increase her rank.

'Is this another blessing from the goddess, my lord?' Lucy was curious.

Shaking her head to fend off the growing thoughts, she calmly placed her hand on her chest.

"I am only your humble servant. If you see me as worthy to be of use to you, then I will not be the one to decline such an honor," Lucy replied.

Jared wasn't exactly surprised that Lucy could say something so cringe-worthy with a straight face. Then again, there had been days he doubted if she had any kind of emotions.

"Alright then, do wait there."

He swiped in front of him, allowing the system inventory to pop up.

Jared clicked on the product, and then another notification appeared.

He clicked on the second party, and just like that, the system knew who he wanted to use it for.

In that moment, Lucy felt a luminous light shine within her, one that completely changed what she once was.

Normally, once a person awakened, all that was known was the increase in their mana pool, but that didn't seem to be the only case for Lucy.

She got taller, her face looked more attractive than it initially was, and even better, her physique was twice as appealing.

A whistle escaped Jared's lips as he watched with his arms folded.

Lucy was still trying to understand what had happened. She felt different, like she had just broken out of her shell and could easily flip over the entire building if she wanted to.

"What happened to me, my lord?" That question slipped out of her mouth.

"Just as I said. You are now a Five-Star. I believe that makes you an Awakened, no?"

Jared was not lying, and Lucy knew this. Still, she couldn't help but feel a hint of disbelief.

"You really... took me to a Five-Star."

"Shocked? Well, not that I blame you. It is a hard pill to swallow, after all." Jared stood up and walked over to the window. "Regardless, that should not be your concern. All you need to know is if you have the power to protect the people of Sikone, I have faith you'd do just that. Or am I wrong?"

For a brief second, Lucy contemplated. So far, all she had been able to do was save a few of the villagers from the magic beasts roaming about the area. She hadn't exactly fought them one-on-one.

The reason being, she knew damn well she was going to lose or get killed.

But if Jared had just given her powers beyond her comprehension, then... did she really have anything to fear?

"I fight for you alone, my lord," Lucy uttered with a slight bow of her head.

Giving her the side-eye, Jared watched as the notification appeared once again.

Jared smiled. 'She really is the best bodyguard/secretary I could ever ask for.'

He then proceeded to look outside the window, where he could see some of the villagers walking past the building with baskets filled with dying crops.

"Lucy, did they come back?" he asked, repeating the earlier question he had thrown at her that didn't go so well.

Lucy didn't hesitate to reply. "The Ragoon Village attacked during the death of the former Lord. They took Kiara with them. They demanded we hand over the watering hole and the artifact, or she will be executed for theft."

His fingers gripped the wall, his face now etched with brewing rage.

The Ragoon Village was one of the closest villages to Sikone, having a population of over one hundred, with half being aimed at their enemy's military.

They were not the best, and because of this, they could not conquer other villages so easily. And due to this, they used other methods, such as completely extorting the weaker villages around them.
