Chapter 23: More Potions

Kaly began to prepare the potions, she kept showing Nymer how to prepare them, she was patiently teaching him. While she was doing this, Darius was in the grounds, he began to use water magic and repeated the creation of plants. But in one part he left none and created the plants for the other potions he remembered they needed.

After a few minutes, Nyme went to harvest, but she didn’t know how to harvest the others, so she came back and Kaly explained.

Nyme used water magic and kept cleaning the roots and other parts of the plants, but when she reached her limit she went to the kitchen and fetched water there.

She left the plants to dry in the sun.

She watched Kaly prepare the potions, she was using 10 cauldrons at the same time, so she could prepare more than 2,000 potions at the same time.

Darius was also attentive to the preparation, he watched as he rested, and his mana was very low.

"We’ll need the factory soon, then we could produce a much larger quantity at once."

A few minutes later, the potion was already cold and Nyme began to fill some vials. Darius realized that they were almost empty, so he went up to the bedroom and looked for the mana ring, he found it, after a few minutes he started creating some vials. They consumed more mana than the spells he used, it was a good way of running out of mana for the training Kaly likes him to do.

He recovered some of the mana, but he was still tired, so he waited a few more minutes and went back to creating more potion bottles. He already had a few thousand, so he came down with some and put them on a table. Nyme went over to the table and started filling these vials.

Meanwhile, Kaly left and went to the village, there she went to the carpenter and got a few more boxes, still not enough for the order. But Torn promised that by the end of the day he would have made all the boxes and said he would call his children to help with the production.

Kaly looked at the crops and saw that the land wasn’t fully plowed yet, but that wasn’t a problem. She used water magic and wet the soil, then she used magic and created the plants, they sprouted faster than the ones Darius created.

"If possible, I want you to harvest them today, I need you to wash the roots and cut them in this position," she explained to Bel as she held up a plant she had just pulled out of the ground.

She was in a hurry, so she started walking towards the mansion, she passed an area and saw that the masons were starting the construction of the plant, it would take time for it to be finished, but she was relieved to know that they were at least making an effort.

In the mansion Darius was talking to Nyme, he wasn’t very good at conversation, he usually talked to few people, his past life was no different, so Nyme led the conversation.

"Are you a mage?"

"Yes, I have that class, so do you. Aren’t you?"

"No, I’m an archer, but Kaly asked me to put mage, so I ended up putting it, I hope it won’t be a problem with the Guild."

"It won’t, as far as I know."

Kaly arrived in the kitchen.

This kitchen wasn’t the main one, so they could use it without being bothered by the maids. The mansion had two kitchens, one where the maids made food in the mansion and the other in case there was a problem or they needed more space, like at a party, where a lot of food had to be made.

They spent the morning making potions, Kaly managed to finish all the potions she needed and helped Darius with some vials, but she still had a lot of mana, but it was time to stop and rest.

"Now let’s train some more, Nyme. In case you train, I’ll just watch."

They went out into the garden, and there she watched as Nyme managed to make quite a few spheres, she could make a lot in a row, but there were still too few, it would take at least four times as many for her to be able to use them in potions.

"Potions are basically hot water with plants, some are made with animal parts or fluids. Including human bodily fluids. But that’s beside the point. What differentiates a potion that I make from one that some alchemist has made is just one thing, actually two things. The mana used was the right amount and experience. This defines the quality of a potion. So, Nyme, I want you to keep training until you get at least 120 spheres of water, when you’ve done that we can move on a bit."

"120 is a lot, I don’t think I’ll be able to do all that."

"You, believe it or not."

"Now let’s get some rest, Darius and I have an appointment tonight, so I think that’s enough for today. Tomorrow morning I want you here, but not too early. Take your payment for today," she pulled out three gold coins. "I’ll give you 3 gold coins for every day you help with the potions. The day you deliver it will be 5 coins. We’ll fix that amount. Is that all right?"

"Yes, but you always give a different amount."

"I know, that’s why I’m leaving it fixed, I want it to be like this until we make more profit, then you’ll earn more."

Nyme thanked him and left, Kaly was waiting for the others to return. She sat in the garden and it didn’t take long for the six of them to show up. She said she wanted everyone’s services and handed over 2 gold coins to the adventurers and 3 to the helpers.

"I appreciate the payment," the elf said happily.

"Let’s agree on the prices. I’ll pay you a fixed amount. When you escort, you’ll get 1 gold coin, when you train, I’ll give you 2 gold coins, since we’ll be doing this every day, at least for now, I’ll pay each of you 3 gold coins. Including the three of you," she said, looking at the helpers.

"Agreed, I have no objections to that," the leader of the group of adventurers said, he was happy with the payment, he could hardly earn 3 gold coins for a job that didn’t involve danger.

They said their goodbyes and Kaly went with Darius to the bath, she had no clothes on and was massaging her feet.

"I hate having to walk a lot, no matter how much I’m used to it, my feet never feel right."

"Wouldn’t it be easier to use healing magic?"

"Yes, but it’s no fun, you end up getting addicted to easy solutions. Sometimes it’s good to complain, however, you solve it, and besides, your body healing itself is good, unless it gets you killed. Apart from that, always let your body recover, that’s why I stopped using magic on you and asked you to let your body feel a bit of pain before being healed, otherwise you’d be much weaker. Really."

She put her foot up and lay down, Darius could see much more than he could.

"Stop it, you’ve seen me naked several times, you’re just looking at it from a different angle, but it hasn’t changed anything."

"You’re right, I’ll be more relaxed about it."

"You don’t have to force yourself, just try to live life more lightly, where I come from it’s quite common for people to get naked in the shower with other people. Here it’s more restricted and conservative, so you end up caring more about nudity than you really should."

"In my world, I’ve seen some people talking about other countries, where they’re more liberal, this culture thing is always complicated, everyone does it one way, and in the end, there’s no single right way."

"Yes, you’re right, imagine if everyone was like the people in the Serimaht Empire, they’re crazy."

"There was a woman from that place, she wore an eye patch. She looked quite strong."

"Where did you see her?"

"At the tournament, she was fighting a muscular man and she beat him through exhaustion."

Kaly fell silent and tried to remember.

"I don’t remember, so I don’t consider her strong. They’re from a place where everyone focuses on fighting, a society of mercenaries and soldiers. You find one or two who aren’t, like farmers, salesmen, and other areas. Otherwise, they’d go bankrupt. But even these people know something about combat."

"So they’re strong?"

"In strength, yes, and in numbers too. The Empire is made up of what were once five kingdoms, but it’s been a long time. But in a fight against Drakonia, I think Drakonia would win. We’re strong too."

"Is everyone as strong as you?"

"No, I’m the strongest. I’ll tell you a secret, but just this once. I’m over 500 years old, and I’m the strongest in the place, so don’t expect to meet people at my level, or yours, in a few years’ time you’ll be much stronger too. To be honest, if you stopped training now and came back in a few years’ time, you’d definitely be even stronger."

"Because of the mana crystal?"

"That too, but at some point your mana will grow, so don’t worry about it," she said as she stood up, "let’s wait for your parents and go to the Duke’s party."
