Reincarnated as the fourth son of a noble and tamed an SS-rank dragon-Chapter 38: Selection Exam
Darius was looking at the people who were registering, only two people were responsible for this, the one on the left was Aeli Draken, the magic teacher, and on the right was Serah Veyl, the bow teacher. Each person had their name placed on a register along with some information that was collected.
The person had to place their hand on a crystal sphere that was on top of a cushion. When they placed their hand on it, the sphere would glow according to the elements that the person had an affinity with, after which they had to place their hand on a plate that would inform them of the amount of mana. In addition to this information, it would be necessary to inform them of the skills they possess.
Darius placed his hand on the sphere, which indicated the three elements he had an affinity with: earth, light, and darkness. He placed his hand on the mana plate and it was unable to measure the mana, Serah stared at the plate thinking it had broken, a new plate was placed on the table, but it gave the same message. After a while, a man approached, he was wearing a black suit with some silver details, and what was striking was the monocle in his left eye.
He stared at the sign and then at the next table the same mistake happened, it was Nyme putting his hand on the sign.
"This isn’t a mistake, it’s just that our equipment isn’t capable of measuring the mana of these two. Put them in the waiting room with the others."
As the two were leaving, the same mistake happened to Zenith.
Ava, Thali and Eryn were in the queue, they decided at the last minute to take part, they didn’t want to, but Kaly insisted so much that they accepted.
When it was their turn, it was the same mistake as before. The director just watched, this mistake had never happened before, this time there were six errors in the same exam. Something was strange, he just didn’t know what it was.
The principal waited for the last person to enter the room and went in with the two teachers who were taking the registrations. When he entered the room, the door was locked. It was a very large auditorium, and the director went to the center, greeted everyone and then some tables and chairs appeared.
"You have two hours to finish your exams."
They sat down, after a while another table and chair appeared, the director sat down and made an hourglass appear, he turned it, the sand began to fall and sheets of paper appeared on the table, they were white and Darius recognized this paper. The test questions appeared and they began to solve them.
After five minutes, Darius raised his hand and one of the teachers came up to him. He wanted to know when he could hand in the test, the teacher asked him to look and all the questions were solved, she accepted and asked him to wait. The principal stared at him, and when the teacher handed the test to the principal, the others raised their hands and asked to hand it in.
The teachers walked around the room, keeping an eye out to prevent anyone from cheating or doing anything that could jeopardize the test.
Aeli looked at Darius’ test and saw that he had got it right, she had asked the questions about magic, but he had been very quick to solve them, she was suspicious. But she didn’t see any cheating. The room was filled with magic crystals, all the magic used in the room was being monitored, and none of it was considered cheating, besides, he hadn’t used any magic.
"The same six," thought the principal.
The two hours passed and the tests began to levitate, they made their way to the table.
The principal stood up and asked them to follow their teachers: the students on the right would accompany teacher Serah, and those on the left teacher Aeli. Darius was on the left and went along with Zenith and Nyme.
They went to an arena, it was large and a muscular man stood in the center. He was Aron Black, one of the Academy’s generals. Even though the Academy is a school, it has its own army and can go to war if the King wants it to.
He was wearing black armor, Darius looked at him and didn’t feel that he was strong, he was used to Kaly, any other power is weak compared to hers.
They lined up for the test.
"I’m Aron Black, I’ll be your evaluator. Each of you will receive a mark from 0 to 10, the mark will be based on your skills, beating me isn’t necessary, I want to know how you fight and how you defend yourselves. Besides, you can come with everything, I’ll hold back and if you end up hurt, we have mages who can use healing magic, so you won’t go home hurt."
"Go all out?" Darius thought, but he knew he should hold back, he just felt that Aron wasn’t that strong, but that was just an impression, he wasn’t sure and he could end up getting hurt if he underestimated his opponent’s strength.
Aron was fast, his movements showed it, and he was also very strong. His armor looked heavy, but he moved as if he were naked. With just one blow, he sent an inscribed boy flying through the air. The boy fell, but he got up, then ran out to attack Aron, but that wasn’t enough, Aron defeated the boy. Then he wrote something down on a piece of paper.
Darius watched the movements he made, and sure enough, Darius was wrong, Aron was strong and his movements seemed faster than the jacks, as well as being stronger.
"So they weren’t the Kingdom’s elite force," Darius thought as he compared the jacks’ movements with those Aron made. Darius only saw them fight Kaly, but he could see that she had to work hard to defeat them, even though Kaly had no relatives. He only realized this after many fights with her and several Guild missions.
When it came to Zenith, Aron couldn’t land a single blow, she was fast, her blows were deflected, only one came close, but it was a glancing blow.
He stopped the fight after a few minutes without being able to land a blow on her.
Then it was Nyme’s turn, she wasn’t that skilled with swords, but she managed to do well, the fight took a while, but he managed to land a blow, but Nyme seemed intact. She had healed as soon as she had taken damage.
He watched, sure that he had cut her arm, but the arm was unscratched.
When it came to Darius’ turn, he was in doubt as to which sword to choose, he went for the biggest one, it was the heaviest, but also the sharpest.
"He’s already lost," Aron thought when he saw his choice of sword, as it was too heavy and would limit his movements.
Aron was wrong, Darius’ movements were faster than Zenith’s, he moved as if he were weightless, his movements were accelerating, faster and faster and Aron couldn’t defend himself, he was hit over and over again. Until Darius pulled away and ran so fast that he couldn’t stop the blow, Aron’s arm was on the ground.
Teacher Aeli screamed, she was startled by Darius’ strength.
"Healing mages, please come here quickly!" She was shouting.
The others were frightened.
"I’m sorry, I tried to take it easy, but I got careless," Darius apologized with his head down.
"Take it easy?" He kept repeating.
Darius took a potion out of a bag of items he was wearing and handed it to Aron. His arm was growing again and he felt more energetic after drinking another potion.
Aron stood up, thanked him, and then continued the test.
Aeli was a little scared; in no other exam had a student managed to hurt the instructor.
When the test was over, everyone went to the cafeteria and ate, then they rested for half an hour and went to another arena, this one full of targets. They would be judged on their ability to hit.
Darius, Nyme, and Zenith hit every time, the arrows were piled up next to each other. Once again, Aeli was amazed by his and the others’ skill. She wanted to see what he was like in magic, she saw that he had three affinities, what was most impressive was that he had with darkness and light at the same time. She had an affinity with water and air.
After the bow test, Aeli used some magic that made the bows disappear. In their place, black plates appeared. They seemed to be made of rock, but it was different; Darius thought of them as obsidian from Minecraft.
The plates recorded each person’s magical power, as well as assessing mana expenditure and other characteristics of the spells.
Zenith caused a crack when she used water magic. Aeli couldn’t believe it when she saw it, she knew that Zenith only had an affinity with fire, elemental spells with no affinity consume more mana. Given the power of the attack, she should have fainted, but there was no sign of fatigue.
Then it was Nyme’s turn, water and air elements, just like Aeli’s. She wanted to see which air or air elemental attack she could use. She wanted to see which air or water attack Nyme would use, but no. Nyme used a fire spell, the spheres hit the plate and caused it to break. Aeli had no reaction.
"Teacher?"
"Sorry... Yes, you did well, next."
It was Darius, and before he could start, Aeli asked him to use the board next to him. He had more than one so that if any of them malfunctioned, they could continue the test. The plate being broken had never crossed anyone’s mind.
Darius raised his open hand and a large ball of water formed, a deafening noise as the ball hit the plate. The plate shattered into several pieces, but the sound was different from that heard when it was Nyme’s turn.
In addition to the plate, the wall and a magical force field were broken with magic.
