Chapter 41: The Demon Lord’s plan

After the first attack, the Demon Lord didn’t carry out any more, he hadn’t expected an entire horde to be beaten by just three people. Now his clairvoyance was under control, he didn’t have to rely solely on the oracle, so he could create better strategies for the next attack.

He planned to attack the Solsticea country, it was closer to the Northern Continent, even with the magical power of the Kingdom, the Demon Lord’s army wouldn’t lose.

Two weeks passed and all four generals managed to come up with the same plan, they would attack with just two hours, 10,000 demons, it would be unlikely that they would lose this time, since Kaly and Darius would be far away.

And for the plan to work, they would use an orb of black blood, this magic item is rare and consumes a lot of mana in its manufacture. It also consumes a lot of mana from those who manipulate it. All this accumulation would be used to seal the magical power of everyone in the Kingdom.

The plan consisted of entering the Royal Capital of Solsticea, after infiltration the orb would be broken, when this happened all the magical power would be sealed and the demons would attack and take over the Kingdom as a new domain of the Demon Lord, the plan was simple, but it consumed a lot of the Demon Lord’s magical power. For the last two weeks, he had been feeding the orb with his mana, he was weaker, the consumption of mana was very fast and in large quantities, all the mana he produced was absorbed.

Four weeks earlier, in the capital of Velmont, Darius was having breakfast with his family, his two older brothers used the Academy’s lodgings, they always preferred it because of the distance to it, as well as being easier for clan obligations.

The second brother, Soren, was no longer at the Academy, he was now part of the Royal Knights, he held a similar position to his older brother, now exiled, Elion. The third son, Arto, was still at the Academy and would graduate the following year.

Aeris was at the Academy, she started that year.

Amanda was pregnant and Orphelia was helping her with her sexual desires since Julian didn’t want to penetrate her for fear of causing any problems with their future child.

"How’s the family army?" Darius asked.

Julian and the others hadn’t expected this question, especially so suddenly.

"It’s grown a bit, but we still have a tiny army, even more so compared to the other nobles with lesser titles."

"I want to change that, I’m planning a tournament, where the best will be hired to form the army, so we can increase our military power more and more."

"Don’t you think that’s going too far beyond what we should be doing?"

"No, it will be important, we need more power, especially considering the possible attack by the Demon Lord, or another internal conflict, we could lose territory and even authority. A tournament is a way of showing off the military power we’re acquiring, as well as advertising the store and the potions, we need more sales."

"Aren’t you selling enough already?"

"We get 60,000 potions a day, but we can still raise that number a lot, soon we’ll be the biggest suppliers on the continent."

Julian liked the idea, but at the same time he thought it was dangerous, the nobles would surely complain, but he agreed to everything.

"How do you plan to run the tournament?"

"I’m going to pay for the adventurers’ guild to send all the guilds that we’ll be holding the tournament, the four who go through to the semi-finals will be guaranteed jobs, and the others who stand out will be hired. As well as swords and magic, I plan to add bows and spears, we want a complete and strong army."

Darius finished his breakfast and went to the Academy. He had wanted to miss it, but as it was the second day, he preferred to go and wait a little longer.

The class was about adventure, an A-rank teacher would teach them how to be good adventurers, as well as being able to use what they learned for other things, like working for some important noble, or working for the King himself.

"I hope everyone here is registered with the Guild, if not, I ask you to do so before the next class, as you will need to be registered for the practical classes, where we will carry out the Guild’s missions."

The teacher walked around the room, he didn’t stand still, he always moved while he spoke, which distracted Darius.

"Does anyone here know any S-rank adventurers? Of course not..."

Before he could finish speaking, he saw six hands raised.

"Who do you know that’s of that rank?"

"My teachers and the security guards at the potions factory. There are a total of three in the S-rank," Thali said.

Then Ava and Eryn said the same thing.

"Apart from those three, we have two security guards in our store," Nyme said.

"But we also have a teacher in common, she’s SS-rank, so from S-rank onwards we know six people."

The teacher didn’t react, he couldn’t believe it.

"I think you may have confused yourselves, people of lower rank always see people of higher rank as superior. Just as you might think I’m stronger because I’m A-rank..." he stopped talking when he saw the six of them raise their Guild cards, they were all A-rank.

"We’re not S-rank because of our age, but we have enough quests to get higher, we’ve done more than 60 S-rank quests in all, because we’re from a group with high-level adventurers, we’ve achieved these quests."

"I guess I underestimated you..." he paused for a long time as he sat back in his chair, it was the first time in the whole class that he had sat still. "Please give me your names, I’ll confirm everything you’ve said with the Guild, if it’s true, I’ll let you go and pass you, there’s nothing I can teach you if you really have teachers with that rank."

At the end of the lesson Darius went to the blacksmith’s, he still had a lesson afterwards, but he decided to take advantage of the break for that.

He hadn’t been to Shiva to buy anything for a long time. That’s why the dwarf thought he’d found another blacksmith.

Darius wanted to order the items he needed for the tournament. He needed four mithril swords, one better than the other, plus more magic items to make them better, then he wanted four bows, with the same idea of one better than the other. Then he ordered spears and staffs. He explained what he wanted and Shiva began to have some ideas.

The swords, the first of which would have the attributes of sharpening, and hardening, would be able to release fireballs, as well as increasing the user’s physical resistance, as well as increasing speed, and resistance against all magical elements. It would also become more resistant with each monster killed. The second would have the same attributes, but without the protections against the elements, the third would not have these attributes nor the improvement in physical resistance, and the fourth would not have the increase in speed along with the attributes that were excluded. So even the fourth sword would still be better than any sword found in various smithies.

He thought the same for spears and bows. Any archer would like a bow that shoots arrows with flames.

When it came to the staff, he thought about increasing magical power, with increases of 5, 4, 3, and 2 times magical power.

Darius liked the idea, he put in several bars of mithril that Kaly had prepared the day before.

"How much will this cost me?"

"I’ll make a discount for old times’ sake. That’ll be 20,000 gold coins."

"Does that take into account the discount you said?"

"Yes, these swords aren’t easy to make, just the material it’ll take, I might still make a loss."

"All right, I’ll pay half now," he said as he pulled several coins out of his bag. This time he was using the coins he had, not the ones he could create with the coin purse.

Darius was leaving when Shiva remembered something.

"Don’t think I’ve forgotten the duel we arranged. Kaly never showed up, but I’d love to duel her. Remember to ask her if she still feels like fighting me, I may be old, but I’m still strong."

He was indeed old, but as dwarves get older, their power also increases, of all the races, they are the only ones who can get stronger like this.

"I’ll remember, maybe you can be the final attraction, I think a lot of people would like to see you fight."

As Darius left, he remembered that he hadn’t asked about the deadline for the weapons to be ready.

He asked and was given a month. Enough time for him to plan how he wanted to publicize it.

In his room, he thought up flyers and then took them out of his coin purse, made several templates, and asked Kaly to choose which one she thought would be best.

She stared at each one for a while but chose the second one.

Now all that remained was for Darius to make more and then hire the services of the Guild.
